Narino, Colombia - August 09, 2026 ntense clashes were reported on Aug. 9 between Colombian army troops and suspected ELN fighters in a mountainous rural area near Madrigal, Nariño department, as government forces continued operations against armed groups. Separately, the army said it had captured or killed several suspected narcos, extortionists and guerrillas, including FARC dissident commander “El Russo” in a targeted operation in Guaviare department.
