Vehicles being charged at parking lot Storyline China's nationwide drive to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure gained further momentum during the January–August period, driven by rising EV adoption and expanding grid capacity. According to data released by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on Wednesday, the total number of charging facilities across the country reached 24.223 million units by the end of August, marking a 39.6 percent surge year on year. Of the total, public charging facilities accounted for 5.16 million units, up 19.5 percent from a year earlier. The total rated power of these public charging points reached 262 million kilowatts, with the average power per unit standing around 50.69 kilowatts. Private charging facilities grew at an even faster pace, soaring 46.3 percent year on year to reach 19.063 million units. The total registered electricity installation capacity for these private infrastructure reached 163 million kilovolt-amperes. China unveiled a three-year action plan in October 2025 to improve EV charging infrastructure, aiming to build a nationwide network of 28 million charging facilities, with public charging capacity expected to exceed 300 million kilowatts by the end of 2027.
