Jun 12, 2026
Storyline China's elderly care robot market growing rapidly Within China's rapidly aging population, robots and robotic devices are emerging as essential tools in elderly care to supplement human services. Last year there were more than 323 million people aged 60 and over in China, 130 million of them living alone. To manage the mismatch between the supply and demand for elderly care services, robots and robotic devices are stepping in. Liu Wenqiang, Vice president, China Center for Information Industry Development: "As the aging process of the population continues to accelerate, the shortage of nursing staff becomes a long-term challenge and the demand for intelligent technologies and products among the elderly becomes increasingly urgent. Intelligent elderly care service robots have emerged as an innovative solution to traditional aging-related issues, and their future market potential is expected to be very broad." The capabilities of these robots have expanded far beyond early basic tasks such as cleaning or meal delivery. Today, they offer a broad range of services like daily living assistance, health monitoring, emotional companionship, and rehabilitation support. A recent report from the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows the value of the country's elderly care robot industry is projected to surpass 1.4 billion U.S. dollars this year.
