Bosnia and Herzegovina supporters living in Canada or arriving for the opening match have filled parts of Toronto with flags, jerseys and chants as their national team prepares to appear in the tournament for the second time. Fans have been visiting the team’s training facilities every day in cars decorated with flags, welcoming and sending off the squad with cheers. Several supporters said they were excited to see Bosnia and Herzegovina return to the World Cup after 12 years, with many expressing hope that the team can advance from its group. The team is set to face Canada in its opening match, with fans predicting a close game and saying the tournament already feels special regardless of the final result. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held for the first time in three countries - the US, Mexico and Canada - with 48 teams, will kick off on Thursday. A total of 104 matches will be played in 16 stadiums across four different time zones. The US will host 78 matches. The tournament will begin with the opening match on June 11 between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium, and will conclude at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, near New York City, on July 19, after six weeks of excitement. The largest of the 16 stadiums is Dallas Stadium with a capacity of 94,000, while the smallest is in Toronto at 45,000. For the first time, 10 African countries and eight Arab countries are participating in the World Cup, with four countries being African and Arab.
