Is there a link between Tylenol and autism?
President Trump’s warning earlier this week that Tylenol should not be taken while in pregnancy — because of fears, not scientifically proven, that doing so could heighten the risk of autism — has caused quite a stir, to put it mildly. While many scientists believe the question deserves more study, they also took issue with the certainty with which Trump made his statements, and expressed worry about women avoiding treatment of fevers, since untreated fevers during pregnancies carry their own risks. In this new video, we hear from reporters across STAT’s newsroom about the evidence behind the president’s claims about Tylenol, what the announcement says about Trump’s relationship with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., how the autism community is reacting, and more.
