Every railway operator publishes punctuality statistics — but do those numbers actually reflect what passengers experience on the platform?
In this video we take a completely different approach. Instead of relying on official annual reports, we analyze 17.3 million real train arrivals collected across Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, France, Italy, and Germany. The data comes from chuuchuu, a smart travel assistant that tracks real-world delays and cancellations train by train.
The results are surprising.
We discover which countries truly run like clockwork, why Germany struggles despite its advanced network, why night trains are almost always late, and how infrastructure capacity — not just investment — determines reliability. You’ll also see the worst day for European railways, the most chaotic hour of travel, and the stations where catching a train becomes a gamble.
This is probably the closest we can get to measuring real railway performance across Europe — not on paper, but in reality.
