Proshaper Class Bugatti Build Follow up.
In a few minutes, Scott from Texas will be loading his Bugatti Atlantic project in his trailer. Here is the follow-up video.
This is what Scott accomplished at the ProShaper coachbuilding class. He attended the 13 days class plus 4 additional days.
I have to say this is quite the accomplishment. The quality of the panel work is first class and he did it in a timely manner.

0:01
good morning it's Ray from Pro shaper
0:03
Workshop in Charlton Massachusetts and
0:05
this is Scott's Bugatti
0:08
Bugatti atlantique and what I found out
0:11
was there's a bunch of different
0:13
versions of this and they all have these
0:15
little subtle differences on the front
0:17
fenders the back fenders and Scott liked
0:21
this version the best you're not going
0:23
to be able to see the details that uh
0:25
Scott likes about it because they're not
0:28
done it's in the front fender and it's
0:29
well it's in the rear fender he's got
0:31
the rear fender up there you can see a
0:32
little bit of that but you can see you
0:35
can made a lot of panels it was here for
0:37
my 13-day class and then he extended it
0:40
four more days
0:42
and he had a little bit of help from a
0:44
couple other guys at the class but uh
0:47
pretty much Scott I would say did about
0:49
85 percent of the work here by himself I
0:51
helped him a few things here and there
0:53
when he needed it
0:54
but you get one-on-one attention if you
0:57
need it when you're at the class
0:59
extended class
1:00
and you can see how nice
1:03
all these little details on it now it
1:05
needs to be
1:06
all the panels need to be trimmed and
1:09
then welded we've got a few one weld on
1:12
The Rocker sill there
1:13
uh that was just to show him how he's
1:15
going to have to do the welding and all
1:19
these other panels have got to be a
1:21
little tuning to them the hood last
1:23
night I helped him
1:24
uh put this roll in it the Hood's pretty
1:27
simple actually there's got to be a Bend
1:29
but we weren't ready to do the bend and
1:33
Scott put the
1:35
flanges on the door skin which he made
1:38
a couple days ago and all the Rockets
1:41
are all flanges so some of the panels
1:43
have the flanging done on them and this
1:45
rear fender he made a good start on the
1:47
rear fender
1:48
and the other version of the Bugatti has
1:52
a rear fender
1:53
that actually wraps around in the back
1:55
and joins the other rear fender but this
1:57
one has a little catwalk between the
2:00
fender and the body
2:01
which he hasn't uh wire formed out yet
2:04
and he's going to do that when he gets
2:06
back to Texas
2:07
and the window surrounds and stuff that
2:10
have to be welded in
2:12
they're really deep and it would have
2:13
been difficult to make all those pieces
2:16
so he's going to make those on a break
2:18
use a shrink of stretcher put them in
2:20
and then weld them and it'll probably do
2:22
the same in the front now
2:24
and now he's got enough material I think
2:26
the front one will be able to form right
2:28
out of the panels
2:30
so I'll bring Scott in and Scott's going
2:33
to say a few words
2:34
this is last day we're about to load the
2:37
car up he spent 17 days so Scott's
2:40
staying in front of the car here right
2:42
over here
2:43
and uh you know I just want to say you
2:46
know thanks for coming and what a great
2:48
project and
2:50
um I I ask you a few questions but the
2:53
questions would be what was the most
2:55
difficult part of this challenge of
2:58
building these panels
3:05
down to a light like on top of the door
3:08
they're they're curved in several
3:11
directions so while they look pretty
3:13
simple on the wireframe by the time you
3:15
you've rolled them all out there they're
3:17
actually pretty complex and we're not
3:19
using the stretcher shrinker on the
3:22
edges or any of that it's all being
3:23
rolled on the an English wheel so uh so
3:27
I've learned a lot that that's been a
3:29
challenge but I'll be able to
3:31
do this a lot more quickly on the second
3:33
side yeah and the majority of the panels
3:36
that are on the car are actually kind of
3:38
low Crown uh English wheel panels few of
3:41
them you hammered a little bit to
3:43
stretch them out faster but on the on
3:45
the fenders now you've got a high Crown
3:47
situation and that one we we took and
3:50
put I showed you how to put the gathers
3:52
in it and how to knock the gathers down
3:54
and uh that process now I think you've
3:57
got a pretty good handle on that now
3:59
yeah pretty much yeah so when you get
4:02
back to Texas uh do you have a uh uh a
4:07
sequence of events that you want to see
4:09
happen next so you're going to start
4:10
welding these panels together uh yes I
4:13
have a couple like the fender I need to
4:15
finish
4:16
but then I'll I'll uh I'll weld up the
4:19
panels on this one side get them perfect
4:23
just the way I want them and then I'll
4:25
do the flexible shape patterns and then
4:27
build the other side so so I want to
4:29
have one side completely finished and
4:31
then do the other side okay
4:34
um
4:35
so you're not going to make a wire form
4:38
for the other side if you don't have to
4:40
you you'll be able to flexible shape
4:42
pattern these panels and then maybe make
4:45
some kind of temporary supports and so
4:47
that you can see how everything's going
4:49
together and uh then then weld it all up
4:52
and then you're gonna do super legarre
4:54
inner structure uh as opposed to the
4:58
original ones would have had a hardwood
5:00
inner structure so the Super League gear
5:02
takes up less room and uh basically you
5:05
just keep throwing metal at it until
5:07
it's strong enough it's got to be
5:09
adequate so that uh the big issue on on
5:12
a car and when you're building it is
5:14
it's got to be uh rattle free pretty
5:17
much so you want to make it nice and
5:19
rigid and the the big Hazard is uh uh a
5:23
potholes and and also railroad tracks
5:26
when you go over those you don't want
5:28
the car falling apart on you so uh you
5:31
start with a whole bunch of superligera
5:34
in a structure and then you you know
5:37
talk it a little bit and see if the
5:40
body's moving anyway close to slam the
5:42
doors and all that so you got all that
5:44
ahead of you which is all a great
5:46
discovery uh that has to be figured out
5:49
and uh it's it's a great Challenge and
5:53
challenges your brain and and uh who who
5:57
wouldn't like to do that if you're going
5:58
to be building a whole car you know
6:00
so I boxed the frame which was not
6:03
originally boxed yeah
6:05
that should make it
6:07
pretty pretty stiff oh yeah in the last
6:09
video I mentioned the frame we had a
6:12
little bit of in the first video so I'm
6:14
going to close out with just showing uh
6:16
what he did with the frame and I guess
6:19
you'd had some drawings you found some
6:20
drawings for the frame
6:23
I believe okay yeah I I replicated so
6:28
essentially this is is the same as the
6:30
original Bugatti frame okay so let's
6:32
take a look at the frame it the only
6:35
difference is that he made was uh he
6:38
boxed it up which means it's even
6:40
stronger and it was an eighth inch wall
6:42
uh plate that you made it out of
6:44
yeah eighth inch and he's got his
6:47
Winter's rear end in the front and he
6:49
built his own Bugatti style uh front
6:52
axle
6:53
and uh it it just doesn't get any better
6:56
I mean he did a beautiful beautiful job
6:58
and let me show you the front axle
7:04
this is the front axle that's all the
7:07
way Bugatti did it uh of this one he's
7:10
of course he's gonna he's modern so he's
7:12
gonna put a Jag six in it uh an XK motor
7:16
and also he's got uh was it Wildwood
7:19
brakes or something on it yeah wheeled
7:22
wood brakes yeah they'll be they'll be
7:23
covered so they don't look like disc
7:26
brakes on them okay so he's got four
7:28
wheel disc brake versus the original car
7:29
would have had mechanical brakes I think
7:32
and uh he's got the grill to make I told
7:34
him to make all the trim pieces uh which
7:37
there's not many of them uh all out of
7:40
stainless you know even the door handles
7:42
which is just get a a chunk of stainless
7:45
and Whittle it away a little bit and
7:46
make your own door handles and then
7:49
polish them all up so that's the uh the
7:53
final video of the Bugatti build by
7:56
Scott from Texas it's a masterpiece
7:58
already as you can see uh he did as well
8:02
as you possibly can this is a
8:04
professional quality work
8:06
and he had very little experience before
8:09
he came to the class so I just want to
8:12
thank you Scott again for coming over to
8:14
my class and uh maybe we'll see you
8:16
again in the future you said you've got
8:18
a couple other ideas for other cars once
8:20
you get this done but you're going to be
8:21
busy for maybe another year or two and
8:24
this is the last shot of the Bugatti
8:27
it's going to be loaded in the trailer
8:28
in a few minutes off it goes it's Ray
8:31
from Pro shaper Workshop in Charlton
8:33
Massachusetts thanks for watching
