0:01
hi it's Ray from Pro shaper Workshop in
0:03
Charlton Massachusetts and we're back
0:05
with the follow-up video and this is
0:07
Paul from Hong Kong
0:09
and uh
0:11
as we spoke about or showed in the last
0:14
video Paul had done this this one panel
0:17
here
0:18
this is his uh best panel he did he did
0:22
like three other panels they're really
0:24
good but this one was exceptional he
0:26
also did the Tipping you can see the
0:29
Tipping where it's going to tip in on
0:30
the uh the flange there the flanges made
0:33
and and that's where it joins with the
0:35
hood but we left off with the the wire
0:39
form fuel tank that he made there was a
0:41
Norton fuel tank we've copied the design
0:43
a little bit
0:44
and Paul had did the drawings and scaled
0:47
it up and made this beautiful wire form
0:50
and uh
0:52
I suggested to him that
0:54
to get all the nuances in the design
0:57
maybe you could try putting some duct
1:00
tape on the inside and with clay model
1:02
it so if you could turn it Paul and
1:04
we'll see the other side of what you did
1:08
so
1:10
that he's running out of time so if we
1:12
didn't get any aluminum panels made on
1:14
maybe tomorrow we spent the last couple
1:16
days welding learning a little bit of
1:19
TIG welding he's done really really well
1:21
on that he did steel and a little bit of
1:23
aluminum the steel is exceptional we'll
1:26
show you some of his beads now here's
1:28
his beads
1:31
and he practiced most of the day today
1:34
and he got some really nice beads here
1:37
nice penetration
1:39
pretty consistent I mean this is for
1:41
absolute beginner at TIG welding so the
1:44
aluminum uh he's got a little more
1:46
practice in tomorrow but I'm hoping that
1:48
he could get maybe one panel started or
1:50
maybe finished on this so Paul if you
1:53
want to talk a little bit about the
1:55
process of uh putting the clay on the
1:58
tank and and learning uh how to create
2:01
that shape because we modified it a
2:04
little bit from The Wire form and the
2:06
intent is to
2:08
eventually this will be a flexible shape
2:11
pattern and we'll be able to turn the
2:13
flexible shape patterns inside out to
2:15
make a symmetrical other side but you
2:18
added a lot of nice detail in it so if
2:20
you want to speak about that a little
2:22
bit that would be great yeah
2:24
creating the wireframe originally was a
2:27
great creative process in itself there's
2:30
a lot of flexibility with changing a
2:32
little bit of the design as we went
2:34
along and as we kind of step up to the
2:36
clay right now we also have a lot of
2:39
freedom with how we want to Define
2:40
certain edges for example
2:43
um right here we have a very kind of
2:45
sharp edge that kind of draws the eye in
2:47
a little bit more whereas we were also
2:49
toying with different ideas such as kind
2:51
of making certain things a little bit
2:53
more subtle so the clay is very
2:55
versatile it's a lot of fun we had a
2:57
soft radius on that at first and that
2:59
didn't look bad but you actually
3:01
innovated the the hotter Edge stuff
3:04
there and it that really made it pop I
3:07
think yeah absolutely and what's
3:09
exciting about the the whole clay
3:11
component of it is we'll be able to do
3:13
the flexible shape pattern off of this
3:16
and then full circle will be able to
3:18
create uh sheet metal from that so it's
3:21
really cool to learn the entire process
3:23
and with a few things like the welding
3:26
paired in there
3:27
great start in terms of having the
3:30
fundamentals to get started with metal
3:32
tracing yeah as we mentioned before Paul
3:35
lives in Hong Kong but he's going to be
3:36
applying for UK
3:40
residents really soon probably in the
3:43
next two or three months and in the UK
3:46
it's uh it's automotive and bike Heaven
3:49
pretty much there too so you'll probably
3:51
have some space spaces that's such a
3:54
premium in Hong Kong that it'll be able
3:56
to pursue what he's learned here at the
3:58
class absolutely and you've learned how
4:02
to start a panel off from a flat sheet
4:05
to putting the area value in and how to
4:07
arrange it and and then how to throw
4:09
flanges and and all the shrinking and
4:12
stretching that you had to do and
4:13
everything and and now you've learned
4:16
how to model up a motorcycle tank and
4:18
how to put the clay on there and then
4:21
TIG welding so you've got the uh the
4:24
whole spectrum of possibility here again
4:27
is probably a lot more I could teach you
4:29
but I think you've done really well and
4:33
you've got a good wide assortment of
4:38
skills that you've been
4:40
exposed to and and now you'll be able to
4:43
use them if when you move to the UK so
4:46
just
4:47
say something about you know what your
4:49
hopes are for the future in the UK what
4:52
you potentially could do yeah absolutely
4:55
you're mostly a motorcycle guy right uh
4:59
saying practically with the space
5:02
motorcycles
5:03
yeah but what this course has really
5:05
enabled me to do is have a lot of
5:08
confidence using tools that I never
5:09
really have before and teaching me all
5:12
the fundamental steps that I need to be
5:15
you know creating something essentially
5:17
from scratch and that's really exciting
5:19
what I want to kind of go in terms of
5:22
the direction in the future hard to say
5:25
because there's so many different
5:26
possibilities and options here so I'm
5:27
really excited I just want to keep
5:29
committed to this and see what I come up
5:31
with okay and hopefully tomorrow we've
5:35
got you've got a good 10 hour day
5:37
tomorrow uh Friday you're on the road
5:39
and you're heading towards New York City
5:41
and you're going to be flying out in a
5:43
couple days uh the long you took the
5:46
long route back to Hong Kong you said it
5:47
was like 35 hour flight you know so uh
5:51
you've got a big endurance test ahead of
5:54
you but I just want to say I'm so happy
5:57
that you came you've been an excellent
5:59
student it's been fun to to be with and
6:02
maybe if you can get some aluminum we
6:05
get the flexible shape pattern made on
6:07
that side of that tank tomorrow and
6:09
maybe make that that panel we can make
6:11
once more small video for this series
6:14
but I just want to thank you and I'm
6:16
sure all the uh the viewers I really
6:19
appreciate the nice job you did so
6:21
thanks for coming thank you
6:23
and that's it for today from Pro shaper
6:25
Workshop in Charlton Massachusetts
6:27
thanks for watching
