So we're going to go ahead and get started
0:30
You guys probably know from the channel that I do a lot of reviews of haversacks and satchels
0:47
and bags and I've done my fair share of reviews of Hidden Woodsman gear and of other brands
0:54
as well. Malcolm just sent me this newest edition of his 2020 haversack. This is the newest iteration
1:02
has new changes to it that he's not done with his other haversacks in the past
1:07
and I am blown away. This thing is incredible. So what I want to do is I want to go through
1:11
show you the features, show you what I have in mind and that'll help you decide if you
1:16
need to purchase one and how you would set yours up too. So let's take a look
1:21
All right, right off the bat the first thing we're going to take a look at is this camo
1:25
that he's been sporting on a lot of his new gear. This is Atex IXX or IX
1:34
It is a fantastic camo pattern. It really blends well into the woods, fall or spring
1:41
It's just a very cool camo pattern and it looks awesome on this haversack and he does some other
1:47
stuff too in his lineup with this camo. So if you're looking for some matching pouches and
1:52
things like that he has those on his website which there will be a link below. Also this
2:00
particular haversack is made from 1000D Cordura so it's really durable. As always the stitching
2:09
is impeccable. The craftsmanship made in the USA is really on top of his game with this. This is
2:17
just phenomenal. Malcolm, I've been a customer of his since the very beginning and his stuff keeps
2:25
getting better and better every year. He's really honed his craft and as a craftsman his stuff is
2:33
no exception. It's just amazing. He does a great job. I can't say enough about it. So
2:38
features, he's gone back to the double buckle in the front and he uses quality buckles. These are not cheap ones. I believe these are National Molding
2:48
Stealth buckles if I remember correctly. Yeah National Molding Stealth buckles. 1000D Cordura
2:57
has a nice grab handle on the back. It's got a two-tone lining. The lining is coyote on the inside
3:06
There is a pocket, a zipper pocket on the front. In here I keep my compass and my notepad
3:28
Behind that zipper pocket is a slip pocket. In this slip pocket I keep my first aid kit. Plenty of room for books, notebooks, things like
3:38
that. So if you're going to carry your field guides with you this would be a great pocket
3:42
to put that stuff in. The main compartment has this flap now with a buckle closure so you can
3:51
actually cinch your load down, keep your stuff contained. If you need to expand it you can open
3:58
up this buckle, do that which I think is a really nice feature. Really well done. It's a great idea
4:07
Then we get into the main compartment. The main compartment is lined in orange Cordura as you can
4:13
see that. In here this is where I keep of course a bottle and my Pathfinder cup
4:25
I've got my fire kit in here. This is the Maxpedition pouch
4:34
Got some gloves. Definitely need those today. It is chilly out. And then on the back wall there's another zipper pocket and in there I've got the lid
4:50
to my Pathfinder cup. Now what's really cool about this main pocket and this is a new feature for the 2020 model
5:01
is that Malcolm has sewn in slip pockets down the side. I don't know if you can see that but there
5:08
I've got my Opinel saw. There's one on this side. And there's one on the other side. And over here I've got my Two Arrows California bush tool
5:21
And that just slips right down that side pocket. So it helps you organize your gear and keep the
5:27
your knives and things contained from you know falling all over the bag
5:34
It's just a it's a great feature to have that. Close this back up
5:51
So moving to the back Malcolm has eliminated the axe sleeve on the back. I know for some people
6:10
that's going to be a problem. They're not going to like that. I know it doesn't bother me because
6:15
I really found carrying a hatchet on a haversack to become too heavy
6:19
It's just it's just too much weight. Haversacks in my opinion need to be lightweight and need to
6:25
have just the bare minimum. I don't need to to have an axe or a hatchet on my haversack. So
6:30
he's eliminated that so now there's not going to be any rubbing against your side
6:34
I think that was a complaint from some customers that the once you put a hatchet back there
6:38
it it caused rubbing and sore spot on your side for for extended periods of time
6:49
On the sides he's still doing molly webbing at the top so you can attach additional pouches
6:57
Both sides on mine I've got a just a key keeper. So the newest feature for the 2020 haversack is a shoulder pad
7:04
And I know a lot of people who have purchased his older models have always went out and
7:09
purchased a separate shoulder pad to add to their bags because they felt that they needed them
7:15
And so this is just a great addition because now it's color matched. It's it's sewn by Malcolm and hidden woodsman so it's going to match your pack perfectly
7:24
You don't have to worry about purchasing an extra one. It's going to come with it. So
7:28
he's really updated the haversack to to be something more phenomenal than it ever has been
7:35
He's just really knocked it out of the park with this one. Two inch straps strapping for the shoulder strap. Of course there is Velcro keepers sewn in
7:47
to help maintain the extra strapping. He also does that on the bottom straps of the pack
7:54
The flap straps does that Velcro keepers which I think is a nice feature
8:02
Just a really great addition to the pack. Like I say you know it's there's not much more I can
8:09
that I can really go on about it. It's just it's a phenomenal haversack
8:13
It carries the load very very well. All right that's it for today's video
8:19
I hope this you found this useful. I'm going to put a link down to Malcolm's site below
8:23
for Hidden Woodsman. You can go out and check his stuff out. I believe this pack
8:28
currently in the camouflage is retailing for around $135. With the materials that you're getting it's
8:35
a great value. You can certainly go cheaper cheaper haversacks out on the market but you're
8:40
not going to find one any any haversack that I've reviewed in the past
8:44
As much quality and as heavy duty as this thing is. This thing's this is an heirloom piece. This
8:49
is going to be passed on to people in my family. If I if I take care of this thing it's going to
8:54
be around forever. It's going to outlive me. Just the the quality of the material and the
9:00
the sewing and the construction you can't beat it. So hopefully you found this useful. As always
9:06
please like, subscribe, and share and we'll see you next time on the Preparatory Pack
