okay can anybody hear me
0:29
can you hear
0:35
me oh thank goodness sorry sorry um I
0:40
don't know what's going on i tried to do it through the app which I've never done it before and um it was not working with
0:48
the sound so I apologize but we are on now and um first of all thanks everybody
0:55
for um coming back on and watching the live stream i kind of did this um
1:01
impromptu it's just an idea I had today i've been home um as some of you may
1:06
know um I've been off the channel a little bit because I've had a surgery
1:11
and I'm at home recovering so hey Ken
1:17
um so I'm home recovering from hip replacement surgery which has been um a
1:23
battle and I think you can see behind me you can see my walker right back
1:28
there see it um and uh it's been going well but it's
1:34
uh it's been painful and there's been setbacks of course you know some days
1:40
are good some days are bad today was a pretty decent day i actually was able to
1:45
climb the stairs um so I'm happy about that but that's that's not what we're here for um I wanted to do this live
1:54
stream so to give everybody a chance to ask questions uh about the channel about
2:01
maybe videos that you've watched um hey greetings from Barcelona wow awesome
2:06
welcome um you know if you have questions about videos that you've watched in the past um if there's a
2:12
topic or something that you want more clarity on I would be I would love to
2:17
help you with that and answer anything and then also I thought I would do um a
2:24
little bit of showand tell you know sitting at home i've um I've received some new knives that I want to share
2:30
with you guys and show you because who doesn't love a good knife and if you if
2:35
you know me and follow me I love knives and I have quite the collection um and today we're streaming
2:43
from this is my office this is where I shoot most of my uh tabletop
2:50
videos uh this is where I do my editing this is where most of my gear is stored
2:55
so this is kind of like the hub of everything um it's a mess of course but
3:02
uh it is what it is and I I really like it it's a nice little space for me oh yeah someone's excited about
3:09
gear so first off let's just start is there any questions from anybody who's
3:14
watching that they they just gota got to know um recently the videos that I've um
3:24
released yeah definitely an organized mess Greg uh the videos I've released have um been kind of a variety the last
3:32
one I just did was the um signal devices in survival kits if you guys haven't
3:37
watched that yet and that was a really interesting video because uh some buddies of mine and I went
3:45
camping and we decided to try some of these you know common signal devices
3:52
that you find in survival kits like strobe lights signal panels and just see
3:58
how they did um when we filmed them with a drone and my friend Ken is a licensed
4:06
drone pilot and he was able to get his drone up to about 400 ft and we filmed
4:12
uh the signal panel during the day and uh it was kind of interesting the orange side did not show very well against the
4:20
the brown of the dirt and the grass uh the pink side showed very well and that
4:27
signal panel was a uh a military issue that's what I believe they issued to
4:34
pilots and also to to people on the ground for signaling um to land
4:39
helicopters things like that so it was very interesting and then the uh signal
4:44
mirror didn't do so great um you could see it a little bit but was having
4:49
difficulty with that and then the strobe lights uh those were pretty cool but uh once
4:57
again didn't get a real good clear uh picture of those and the other problem
5:02
was we were shooting at at dusk not at complete darkness just because we had some safety issues with the drone we
5:09
didn't want to lose the drone so I think we're going to go back and revisit that whole video and do some more testing
5:20
just a quick tip a few weeks ago there was a blackout here in Spain and today there was a network outage across the
5:25
country yeah that's that seems to be happening a lot the these uh these big
5:30
blackouts and um brownouts all this stuff that's had
5:36
been happening lately here in the United States and in Europe and yeah it's very important to have a bag ready just in
5:44
case we talk about that all the time on the channel i've done tons of videos on it it's a really interesting subject and and and people get really passionate
5:52
about it um my philosophy is that you need a couple bags um one in your
5:58
vehicle that is ready to go and that you pretty much don't touch and that's that's kind of the one that's going to
6:04
help you get home if you get separated from your family and you're far away and
6:10
then uh probably having some type of bag in your home uh just in case you have to
6:16
leave your home um a lot of people will not have the option of staying at home
6:22
um it's just don't uh the government or police or whatever they they could come
6:28
by uh during a natural disaster or some kind of event and they can they can make
6:34
you leave um so you have to be prepared so that you and your family can grab
6:40
stuff and get out of there quickly and you have things like clothing and you
6:45
know flashlights and batteries and food and all that stuff that we always talk about on the
6:53
channel oh yeah the folding knife chest uh that's actually in the background see
6:58
if I can move here right there there it is yeah that's
7:04
um that's a great way to store your your pocket knives is one of those little mini chests that you find at um I got
7:13
mine at Harbor Freight it's a mini toolbox and it works fantastic for that
7:18
application all right so I'm rambling let's uh let's take a
7:23
look at some new knives that we're going to be reviewing on the
7:28
channel first one we're going to look at is this one right here and this thing is a
7:35
beast this is from a company called Station 9 and I've reviewed Station 9 uh knives
7:42
before i have their sear knife and I forget what the designation on this one
7:51
is but it is it's a really heavy duty knife look how thick that spine is this
7:56
is you know what I would consider a camp uh Bowie knife
8:02
so this is really going to be great for batoning wood um chopping um and I
8:09
love that profile that Bowie profile but what's cool about these Station 9 knives
8:15
is that they're designed by um a French Frenchman by the name of Lopez and um he
8:22
does a lot of expeditions in the Amazon so he tests all his stuff and then he
8:27
has this company called Station 9 which is like his budget uh friendly part of the knife company
8:34
and they they manufacture the knives in China um but they're sold in the United
8:39
States and they're designed of course by Lopez who is French so it's kind of an interesting setup but the the the knives
8:47
are very high quality i haven't seen any issues with it and I know a lot of my um buddies um
8:54
uh have them and have not had issues with them does it have a 90 degree
8:59
spine uh close yeah it it could use a little a little sharpening and that's an
9:06
easy thing to do you know that question comes up a lot oh does it have a 90 degree spine well some knives do um a
9:14
lot of knives don't uh but it's a very easy thing to do yourself
9:20
um is to either take a metal file a flat file put this in a vise and then go
9:27
across it and sharpen that spine just you know do it very slowly and work on it um I do mine with a Dremel
9:35
tool and a um a wheel or a drum um
9:41
that's uh pretty high grit and then I just I work that down and then I'll take
9:47
the metal file and kind of finish it off and give it a smooth finish and that'll that'll give me a 90° spine so then I
9:53
can spark that ferro rod so love doing things myself it It makes
9:59
it a lot easier uh another new knife this is something I just picked up and it's
10:05
something I've been looking for for a while this is um see this here this is a
10:12
Bark River It's their little EDC little pocket EDC
10:20
knife and it of course it's a
10:28
convex could I make a video on tsunami survival kit in the future well um I
10:36
can i don't know if I'm the right person to do that um because I'm landlocked i live in the
10:43
middle of the United States in the Midwest um I really don't have much experience uh
10:49
with the oceans or the coasts um except for visiting them on vacations but we'll
10:56
certainly talk about something like that because um and I could do some research on it but no guarantees so anyway this
11:02
little Bark River it's a convex uh grind knife it is very sharp um but it's a
11:10
very lightweight handy little blade and you don't see I don't see this knife a lot um available so it came up for sale
11:18
on a group that I belong to and um I had to pick it up because I've been looking one for a very long
11:25
time greetings from the Arctic Kevin dad holy cow the Arctic what's the weather
11:32
like up there i have no clue
11:40
um another knife that I picked up uh this is an SC6HM i've had several of these through
11:47
the years um if you if you like SE knives and you like the
11:53
six I really recommend um going with the HM and the HM the difference is it has
12:00
this curved handle and there's a little bit more shape to that
12:07
handle the uh standard SC6 is blocky and not as comfortable i find
12:14
this to be much more comfortable knife and it's kind of interesting because you look at the profile of
12:20
this this is really looking very similar to like um oh the the blind horse um
12:30
knives that that they did for uh Dave Canterbury it it it's it's close to that
12:36
kind of shape so you got the drop point and then you've got the the curved handle um it just it's a very ergonomic
12:43
knife and very capable
12:50
five degrees Celsius yikes okay not sure exactly what that is but I'm a
12:57
Fahrenheit guy but yeah that sounds cold um another knife uh that I have some
13:03
experience with and this is probably hard to see in the dark this is the Gerber Strong
13:10
Arm and I know a lot of people love this knife um it is a beast now if you have
13:18
issues with Gerber because they make a lot of their stuff offshore I understand that this knife is not made in China
13:24
this is made in Portland um so it is a US-made Gerber knife um I would consider
13:31
this probably one of the better um offtheshelf um combat survival knives
13:38
out there full tang textured rubber grip um really fits your hand perfectly
13:52
it's got that uh kind of guard on the top and the bottom so you can kind of
13:58
choke up on it and not have fear of your hands
14:04
slipping 42 degrees Fahrenheit thank you for the conversion i'm I'm a dumb
14:09
American i don't know metric um so this sheath is not the standard Gerber sheath
14:15
this is actually from a gentleman called Canadian Craftsman and um his name is
14:21
Jake and he actually lives in the United States and he makes custom kidex so he and I worked on this together i told him
14:28
what my vision was and he came up with this so we got the the black kidex with
14:34
the orange topo um decoration on it and then the
14:40
interior of that is bright orange got a tech lock on the
14:47
back and this sheath that is solid that is not going
14:53
anywhere fantastic knife and the sheath is just amazing so if you're looking for custom kidex I would check out Canadian
15:01
Craftsman he can be found um he can be found at uh on Instagram
15:07
and Facebook he does not have a website did account of all my knives i'm
15:13
at 62 soon to be 63 does not include hatches tomahawks axes swords one spear okay so those are
15:21
great numbers i encourage you to up those numbers those are rookie numbers i'm sorry i honestly I don't know how
15:29
many knives I have um it's probably in the hundreds and it's a lot because I collect pocket
15:36
knives and I collect small um traditional pocket knives uh case and
15:43
rough rider rose craft uh some queen and the you know those
15:50
don't take up a lot of room and I can I can fill a box with those things and I and I've been doing it for a very long
15:56
time so I have a huge collection of pocket knives um that I'm sure is getting close to over a hundred and then
16:02
fixed blades I have no clue um maybe 30 or 40 fixed blades i
16:10
don't know i need to do a count um Captain Bart that's my man from
16:16
Illinois Captain Bart he is a uh or was a licensed barge uh captain
16:25
and he's a good friend of mine welcome aboard Captain Bart um he's he's a very knowledgeable guy on knives for sure and
16:32
I like talking about knives with him he knows so much yeah I don't have
16:39
enough I don't have enough pockets for all my knives that's kind of funny i think uh I had that video out about EDC
16:48
pocket knives and someone slammed me uh made a negative comment because they
16:54
said "Well they're not EDC because you don't carry them all the time." It's like "What no I don't carry them all the
17:02
time." I'm the captain now um it was a hilarious comment so I guess
17:10
they can't be called EDC knives unless I'm actually carrying them i don't know um I just designate them EDC because I
17:17
do carry a pocketk knife every day um it's kind of funny because my wife will like come up to me she's like "Do you
17:24
have a knife?" And then she kind of stops herself and goes "Of course you do." I mean I always have a pocketk
17:29
knife it doesn't matter where I go I'm going to have a pocketk knife unless I can't have a pocketk knife
17:35
yeah they're just jealous anna hi how are you
17:42
glad you're aboard um I'm recognizing some names here that are on the Facebook group and who also follow the channel
17:49
and I really appreciate that um if I don't I don't say that enough but I really appreciate
17:56
um everybody who takes the time to follow the channel and to come on these live streams and go on the Facebook
18:04
group or whatever it's pretty cool i've made a lot of good friends through this and I that's one one reason I would
18:11
never stop doing this unless I can't physically because I just meet so many cool
18:17
people
18:22
Minnesota hey Joel any thoughts on the
18:29
Spanish Muell Muella knives i you know I I've seen that name but I don't I don't
18:35
have any experience with them um sorry I don't I've never I don't think I've ever
18:40
handled one but I've heard of them there's so many great knives out out there um and a lot of cool knives in
18:47
Europe that I wish we could get um more here in the United States one brand I
18:52
really like is Joker um I've had several Joker knives in the past and um I plan on getting
18:58
more um but they they're kind of hard to find sometimes like the all the models hello
19:06
from Toledo hey all right an Ohio guy like it um yeah so Joker is I think I
19:13
believe that's a Spanish brand um there's some other really cool like Extreme I think this is Extreme Ratio i
19:20
believe they're out of Italy um they're they have some very cool knives um but you don't you don't
19:27
don't get to see those all the time here in the States i actually had the opportunity to go to Blade Show last
19:33
year i don't know if you guys remember that or not and that was an eye openener um just a huge convention hall filled
19:41
with knife dealers and knife companies and knife nerds and it was um it was
19:49
overwhelming overwhelming thoughts on the traditional Buck 110 the traditional Buck 110 is a I
19:57
think a pocket knife that every um every knife nut should have in their
20:04
collection it is it is an American classic um it's a beautiful knife it's
20:11
very wellmade it's very capable i've seen a lot of animals uh skinned and um
20:19
taken care of in the field with a Buck 110 growing up a lot of guys carried them cleaned a lot of deer and feeasant
20:26
and rabbit with them um seen that and and used them myself and it's a
20:32
fantastic field knife hunting knife just all around an American
20:39
classic yeah it's your daily carry yeah I I I don't have any issue with that man
20:45
that's that's a cool knife and it comes with a really It used to come with a really decent leather sheath i don't
20:50
know if it does anymore i think they're nylon now yeah hey Jim welcome yeah the Buck
20:56
110 is it's it's fantastic how can you go wrong with that knife it's just it's an icon there's so many knives like that
21:02
you know the the Buck 110 uh you know the Moras um I think are
21:14
iconic yeah um what are some other iconic knives
21:20
that I'm I'm not thinking about oh KBAR i mean you know who who doesn't have a
21:26
KBAR or had a KBAR in their collection at some point it's not my favorite knife
21:31
the KBAR but uh and I'm talking about like the USMC fighting KBAR um or the Navy model the
21:39
OD model i think those are they're they're just iconic um of course the the
21:44
Camilis pilot knife or jet pilot knife sometimes I call it iconic American just
21:52
hands down a cool knife not always the best choice uh for you know maybe
21:58
bushcrafting or stuff like that but it's a it's a very well done uh knife for
22:03
sure yeah mora oh yeah John gerber Parabellum oh man I remember those the
22:10
'9s and the 80s had such cool knives and I missed some of those and Gerber had
22:16
some really good ones the Parabellum was one of them um you know I remember going to
22:22
sporting goods stores like in the 80s and there was just some very cool Gerber pocket knives you could buy the LST
22:29
uh was one of my first Gervers and um I love the LST it was a fantastic um
22:38
pocketk knife and I think I think one of my sons ended up stealing it from me and I never got it back which is sad gerber
22:44
boot knife yeah I remember those jim I there's an interesting story about a Gerber boot knife um a buddy of mine was
22:52
getting ready to go into basic training and he and I went on a road trip and we went down to Texas um to goof around and
22:59
visit some family and we stopped in a mall and I believe it was a Sharper
23:05
Image and he bought a Gerber Mark 2 new
23:10
in the box from Sharper Image it was camo it was the camo model that had the camo handle and the camo sheet because
23:16
he bought that knife and he wanted to have that when he when he went in the army and I remember when he bought that
23:22
it was you know it was pretty expensive for the 80s it was like 110 bucks or 150 or something like that
23:29
um but it was so cool it was such a fantastic knife i love
23:37
that imitation Rambo knife are definitely in your knife DNA
23:43
yeah they are kevin and Kristen here from the Arctic hey guys how are you
23:48
nice nice you're here awesome oh okay yeah the Kevin Okay
23:54
right the Kevin Data account gotcha yeah uh yeah the the Rambo knives that's also a real interesting
24:03
um subject matter you know I I saw on one of my videos I talked about channels
24:09
that you should guys should be following and one of them was Bushcraft and Baseball um you need to look up his
24:15
YouTube channel because that gentleman has the world's best collection of survival knives I've ever seen and uh he
24:22
has a lot of the vintage 80s you know Gerber Buck uh Parker um you know Lyall
24:32
who actually designed the the original hollow handle Rambo survival knife um
24:38
all those guys and um I love those knives and I collect
24:43
them i buy those as well when I can find them at a good price and I don't use them but I love them because they
24:49
they're reminiscent of when I was a kid you know you go into a sporting goods store a bait shop and there would be
24:55
like a hollow handle knife in a box on a shelf and you could pick them up and they you know they were
25:07
cool this is nice would you make live shows a thing not sure what you mean um
25:15
guys but yeah I mean if there's something you want to see uh let me know because we can do more i haven't done
25:22
these lives very much but since I'm stuck at home I thought I would do one i'd be happy to do more of these and if
25:28
there's like certain things you want to look at I can pull that stuff you know
25:34
from my my shelves and we can go through it and talk about it um because I know people love to look at
25:41
this stuff um up close and hear me talk about it and give my thoughts about
25:47
it central Ohio how about Yes we could a live stream from
25:54
central Ohio yeah that so the bushcraft meet that is in central Ohio is in October um I will be there uh probably
26:03
just setting up maybe a table maybe i don't know um or not just maybe hanging out that's a cool event
26:12
edgewalker Fieldcraft good friend of mine another uh buddy who hangs out at the bushcraft meets um yeah live panzer
26:20
sighting yeah that's uh Panzer's a nickname or username that I have on
26:26
Bushcraft USA so all the Bushcraft USA guys out there um
26:33
hello love your content dude i know I'm late to the show but what is your favorite discontinued
26:40
chopper discontinued like the knife that's no longer
26:47
made i don't know uh there's
26:53
discontinued it in the knife world discontinued doesn't mean a lot to me because there's the secondary market so
27:00
you can always go out and find stuff um I find knives all the time um at flea markets and um pawn shops and online you
27:09
know people selling stuff so discontinued I don't pay attention to that as much so I'm not sure how to answer that but favorite chopping knives
27:18
um the some of them the bigger ones that I' picked up recently are the uh the
27:24
Condor hello from Kansas hey Lewis yeah Condor Knives makes some fantastic uh
27:31
big choppers like the Moonshiner and uh they I can't I can't
27:37
remember all the names but um you know I had a chance to uh meet
27:43
Joe Flowers who designs a lot of the knives for Condor and they're they're
27:48
larger chopping blades he has um he has a very good uh expertise um in larger
27:57
knives and machetes just because of the work he does because he goes to the Amazon all the time and does expeditions
28:03
so he and he sees these indigenous people and how they use larger knives
28:08
and then he takes those that experience and he applies it and comes up with some very
28:15
um uh practical designs for Condor so I would always start with Condor for large
28:21
chopping knives and machetes and things like
28:28
that uh Texas nice glad you're here
28:36
nick Lewis Anamarie Black have you ever designed your own knife and had it made
28:42
ah man that's that's such a great question i would love to design my own knife um I
28:51
I just don't know that many custom knife makers um and I've never been approached or anything by anybody but I that that's
28:57
definitely a dream kind like a goal is to have a prepared wanderer signature
29:04
knife the problem is I don't know what direction I go with would I
29:11
would it be a big knife would it be a survival knife what what features would it have that would make it different
29:17
than all the stuff that's out there already yeah I know you could Jim um I
29:23
just you know I I guess I need to really sit down and think about what I value in
29:29
a knife and what I use um I don't think I'm typical um a lot of
29:37
guys you know I know a lot of guys who are very comfortable using Scandies and love them and you know they they have
29:43
moras and that's all they have and they're very good with them um I have Moras um I don't really care for them
29:50
that much i'm not a I've kind of gotten away from Scandi blades you know when I first started doing bushcraft bushcraft
29:58
um I got scandi blades just like everybody did and they they're fantastic
30:04
woodworking knives but there's stuff that I just like better i really like a full flat grind or a
30:11
saber um even a convex over a scandi i there's a lot I can do with those um I
30:17
feel like I'm I'm just more comfortable with them
30:22
um so I I yeah Jim I need to think about um what I would want in a knife and I'd
30:29
I'd like to hear what other people want in a knife because sometime I don't feel like I hear that enough you know people
30:35
will come on and say "Well that this is my favorite knife." Okay well why what is the reason what makes that knife
30:43
great um there's so many different profiles and grinds and handle
30:52
materials and steels um and lengths that there's just these
30:58
endless combinations that you can come up
31:05
with let's see if there's any other knives I wanted to show you guys this
31:10
here this is an interesting thing i don't know if you guys saw this video i did a um a short review on this
31:19
Nightcore this is EDC29 flashlight it's a very interesting
31:24
flashlight in that you know the shape of it it's more
31:30
of the shape of a um like a magazine for a pistol right so it's flat and long but
31:38
it actually has a screen so there's intelligent uh you know information on here that's
31:46
telling you this is how much you have left on on the battery or on the charge this is the mode you're in this is the
31:53
the lumens that you you have um it's a very heavyduty flashlight and Nightcore
31:59
is kind of new to me i've never used Nightcore stuff and recently
32:05
I just I I've got one of their flashlights i got a couple other headlamps and I've been very impressed
32:11
um I think I've always used Pzel headlamps and um also what some of
32:20
the other brands there's another brand that's escaped me right now but you know PZEl was always a big one when I was in
32:25
search and rescue we always use Pzel headlamps they were just reliable but so I'm trying out Nycore that's good
32:33
stuff another new product um that I recently
32:39
just got in this is from 511 this is the the new um waste bag fanny pack
32:49
system they just came out with black Diamond yeah Black D um I've had some Black Diamond stuff I think
32:54
yeah for sure uh so 5'11 just came out with this and this is their Rush series
33:01
fanny pack this is a designed to be a concealed carry pistol capable
33:09
um waste bag what's interesting about it is what I what I kind of initially drew me to it is okay so it's just a bag
33:16
right nothing earth shattering there but what they did is they um make it so that
33:23
the strap actually can be taken off and you can either wear it around your waist or you can move the strap up to the top
33:30
and then now it is kind of an angled chest pad and um it's got pretty
33:40
good accessibility for your pistol i've got a revolver in here and it's it works
33:45
pretty well and it's got some organization in the front so it's a real
33:50
basic um little bag but very nice for
33:56
EDC so I'm going to be testing that out probably doing a video on
34:02
that oh hey James uh yeah favorite knife is the Kukri from Nepal wow that's
34:08
cool yeah 8 inch blade very useful for camping yeah the the big knives th those
34:14
um I gravitate towards those i have been recently um I find them very useful i've
34:20
never been an axe guy you know some people are really into axes and they're very good with them they're skilled um I
34:27
know some guys who um actually uh cut trees for a living real
34:34
lumberjack type people you know so they use axes and malls and all that stuff
34:39
all the time um hey Kellinger down there is an axe
34:44
guy killinger is in the house he hasn't he has a channel here on YouTube um he
34:51
has a wealth of knowledge on axes and hatchets and
34:56
uh restoration projects with them also chainsaws uh he's a homesteader so he's
35:02
he's always out cutting wood for his family it's pretty cool uh he's got a great channel should check it out but
35:07
yeah so I've never been a big axe guy hey Jim for a big knife I recently got
35:14
in a Oh the tough Yeah work tough gear a
35:19
tail yeah work tough gear man that is that is such an
35:25
underrated under the radar knife brand um Work Tough Gear um overseas is I
35:32
can't remember what country he's out of it's not China and it's not
35:37
Vietnam but they but the the designer maker for Work Tough he he really comes
35:44
up with some cool stuff and he collaborates with a lot of knife uh designers and his chopping his big
35:51
chopping blades are just phenomenal everything I've seen about him look great i need to get one
35:57
again how do you feel about the Cold Steel Bushman
36:03
oh but pocket Bushman i don't you know I've never had the pocket Bushman here I'm gonna I'm reaching down
36:09
here guys sorry this bag right here has a uh large selection of knives
36:17
in it and in here somewhere here it
36:23
is we have mentioning Cold Steel Bushman i I don't have any experience with the
36:29
pocket Bushman um but I have an
36:35
original Bushman hollow handle this thing is a caveman knife um
36:44
it is uh it's been beat on it um it is
36:51
ugly uh but it has a very nice edge on it it is very capable of course it's a
36:59
hollow handle knife because you're supposed to use this um in in an emergency as a spear what I've done with
37:06
mine is I've actually wrapped mine in um very thin bank line and then covered it
37:13
in hockey tape and it gives a very nice
37:18
grip it's a great great knife um and then this is the old school Cold Steel
37:24
sheath
37:34
uh yeah kukeries are are very good at splitting wood and processing um food
37:41
meat um I've had a couple kuker but I don't think I've I've really given them
37:47
much of a chance i think I had a Condor MTAC kukery which is like their smaller one
37:53
um there's a couple there's a custom knife maker on Instagram um uh Canoe uh
38:01
I think is is the name he goes by but anyway he makes cookies that look
38:06
amazing and I need to I need to get one from him at some point because they're pretty
38:12
awesome uh any other knife questions because I got the knife bag right here oh here's the Condor this is one that I
38:19
picked up um at a pawn shop for 20
38:26
bucks and I just took a little bit of time to get that blade back to where it
38:31
needed to be and um I oiled the
38:37
sheath get the light here i oiled the sheath on
38:45
this and it's this is a fantastic big
38:55
blade and of course we have the the most controversial knife ever
39:06
made uh what do I prefer leather or kidex that's a good question i like both
39:11
um I prefer I think I probably prefer kidex um you know nine times out of 10
39:17
I'm going to go with kidex just because kidex um it holds a knife um perfectly
39:24
um it works in wet weather environments um it's easy to draw from you don't need
39:31
a lot of retention devices like straps or things like that to hold the the handle um so yeah Kaidex but you know
39:38
for some traditional knives I like leather because you know like this sheath right here that's a work of art
39:44
that is so cool and this holds uh my
39:50
tracker which I I did I've done one video on my tracker which is kind of
39:56
dumb i' I probably should do a lot of videos with this tracker um because every time this knife is pulled out um
40:04
the comments start flying and people want to know about it and um it is a standard TOPS T1 tracker um
40:13
an older model i I've had this for quite a while um I think over 10
40:18
years and um it has been heavily uh convexed by a knife uh bladesmith and um
40:26
he did a fantastic job with it so that big sweeping
40:32
blade is very sharp it has a very nice convex um grind to it with a kind of a
40:39
micro bevel on it and then of course we have right in here a little hooked part
40:46
and that is um fantastic for using it as a draw
40:54
knife and now my wife says that's her knife yeah she loves this
40:59
knife yeah you're right Edgewalker movie props won't cut
41:05
anything he's being sarcastic because he's he's a tracker guy too yeah so it
41:10
it's such an interesting knife because um of how it came about who designed it
41:16
um a lot of controversy on who the original designer is who the maker is um but you know forgetting all that crap
41:22
and then of course the movie that that crazy movie that came out with Del Toro
41:28
um you know where he handforged a tracker knife out of a piece of metal or something it was just it was kind of
41:35
ridiculous but there is a lot of uh use um and
41:42
skill from some very uh talented people with this knife who can do a lot of things with this knife this knife um if
41:49
you know how to use it and you practice with it it has some advantages is it the
41:55
best knife in the world no of course not it the best knife is the one that you like right it's not
42:02
what I tell you is everybody has their own favorite or what they think is the best but um you got to remember knives
42:09
are tools it's all they are it's just a tool they're not magic
42:15
um it's a tool that needs to be used um and that sometimes is beating on it and
42:21
cutting with it and just doing chores with it and um you know when you start doing
42:27
stuff like that out in the woods you um you become familiar with it and you can do some cool stuff with it i love this
42:34
knife it's just very capable and my favorite thing about it really is the
42:41
draw knife portion of it yeah I like both i prefer leather below
42:47
25 degrees C are you familiar with the case double
42:52
XX elephant toe and why were they made are they just
42:57
to look at oh that's a good question i you know I know the the elephant toe um pattern for traditional pocket knives
43:05
it's kind of a kind of a big chunky uh very ovalesque pocket knife i don't know
43:12
whom came up with that design or why it was designed i don't I don't think I have any elephant toe pocket knives in
43:20
my collection and I don't have that case in particular but they're cool they're just cool looking knives there's so many
43:25
traditional pocketk knife patterns out there tons of
43:31
them have you ever looked at GTK two
43:37
knives excuse me i don't know that brand that does not sound
43:44
familiar you'll have to forgive me i'm kind of scattered today because I'm on a lot of meds from my recovery
43:52
um so here is another
43:57
Condor this is Joe Flower's answer to the Mora and this is one of the Scandi
44:03
blades I do have and I really like this thing this is the
44:10
Terasaur for better or worse it's a multi-tool knife are you're talking about the Trackr I believe face smoosh evil yeah
44:18
it is a multi-tool yeah no problem Killinger absolutely always happy to do a shout
44:25
out do you have any fllaying
44:30
knives um fllaying knives guess I'm trying to figure out what exactly that
44:37
means i mean as a hunting you know pro game processing
44:42
knife you know like an ulu ulu I guess I would maybe consider an ulu something
44:47
like that that's definitely designed for skinning and separating hide from meat
44:53
um I don't have any ulus never messed with them the tracker comes close to an ulu um but not exactly
45:04
yeah so the back to the tracker the qu the comment is it's it better or worse
45:09
it's a multi-tool knife and it is a multi-tool knife um very misunderstood multi-tool knife there's there's things
45:15
about it that people assume one thing is those saw teeth um you know people
45:21
always say "Oh that's such a stupid saw it's so thick it's not going to cut anything." Well you're right because
45:26
it's not a saw never was designed to be an actual saw it was designed to notch
45:32
and if you use it for a notching tool uh when you're you know doing your
45:38
bushcraft uh you're going to notch make notches very clean notches and wood and
45:44
that that saw back on the tracker and similar sawbacks makes a fantastic notch
45:50
very clean cut um but for you know cutting processing wood it's not it's
45:57
horrible it's not what it's designed for i'm just going to go through some knives
46:03
um so here so here's a knife brand that um I always recommend to people who are
46:10
starting out this is BPS knives and I know people
46:17
love these anytime that I show an BPS knife or talk about BPS knives um people
46:24
always have a lot of positive things to say about them now this is a um a knife company out of the out of
46:31
Ukraine i don't know how they're still producing knives with what's going on over there but that's a whole different
46:36
story but they make very affordable
46:41
uh clean um simple design knives um with
46:46
decent leather sheets and um you know like this one i forget what
46:53
the designation on this one is uh but it's it's very similar to a
46:59
smaller Mora but it's just a fantastic little um camp knife you know processing
47:07
food whittling and very affordable these things are inexpensive you get them on
47:12
Amazon all day long great little knives i have the BPS Savage hey James how are you and is one
47:19
of my favorites it's excellent knife for food prep and yes the leather sheath is top-notch yeah the the sheath are
47:25
amazing the the first I think this was the first BPS knife I ever got and I was really blown away by how nice that
47:31
sheath is that's a quality sheath um and I I don't know i think this thing is
47:37
like it's 30 bucks maybe right not much um what else we got in the bag of
47:49
knives oh yeah so this is one I just did a review on and and um I didn't get a
47:55
lot of views on that video or feedback which is fine but this is um a knife
48:05
uh by Odin Wolf and Odin Wolf's it's another one of
48:10
these kind of odd companies that um it's a German company i believe they design
48:17
in Germany they have their knives made in China I believe d2 steel you know
48:24
that's the standard chinesium knife steel right d2
48:31
um but every one of these knives I've gotten from Odin Wolf I've enjoyed and I
48:38
really like this one and the reasons I like it primarily is the profile of that
48:45
blade to me it's a very um uh good kind
48:50
of overall knife that can do many different types of chores from hunting and processing game woodcraft or
48:56
whatever and then it's like a handle really super comfortable full tang comes with a
49:04
plastic sheath um I've attached my multi-tool the front of it right just to
49:09
make it more of a combo how long are we on this feed
49:15
because I feel like oh we're um okay we're almost at an hour right we're going to I'm going to cut this off at
49:21
8:30 just because for time sake um I would love to talk to you guys all night long but like I said I'm in recovery for
49:29
um my surgery and I'm on meds and I'm getting tired and um I need my
49:37
rest of course the MOA here's another classic knife the if if I was to
49:42
recommend one Moa out of all of them and I know everybody Everybody has their favorite um I love the Mora
49:48
Companion um to me it is one of the better
49:54
um more ergonomic and economical knives that they make um it's just a do-it-all
50:01
knife and then uh you know their sheets are okay uh they're a little clunky but
50:07
if you can find some really good aftermarket kidex like on eBay and this one I have set up as a neck knife and um
50:15
it does really well that in that regard so something you
50:20
can have on you at all times especially in the winter time when you're wearing heavy layers and and coats having a neck
50:28
knife um is fantastic
50:36
this is another Station 9 knife this is the the one that I I originally did a review on this is their
50:44
Sear i believe they call it the Seer 8 it's got that um you know kind of
50:52
Buckmaster profile to it it's definitely a Bobby style field knife
50:59
um but once again very affordable um mass-produced
51:05
but a good quality knife love how it feels comes with a
51:11
nice kidex sheath and you can upgrade it um they
51:16
have pouches that they attach to the front of their sheets they have this uh I believe this dangler
51:23
system i think I got that from them as well um Sagewood Gear is starting to make some stuff for their for
51:32
them who do you use hey Gary howdy uh who do you like to use for your kidex
51:37
yeah I discussed that a little bit there there's a lot of good uh kidex guys out
51:42
there um there's two that I have experience with so a Jersey Devil
51:49
Kaidex is one guy you can look him up on Instagram
51:54
very uh detailoriented guy he makes some
51:59
really nice stuff and then the other one is Canadian Craftsman canadian Craftsman
52:06
um he lives in the US his name is Jake i cannot pronounce his last name because it's French um but
52:12
um he makes really nice kidex and I showed this earlier if you just came on this is a a sheath he did for me for my
52:20
strong arm really nice uh quality sheath he
52:27
does he does I think he primarily only does taco style sheath so if you guys
52:33
don't know this is considered a taco style sheath because it's folded over
52:39
like a taco um this sheath which came with
52:44
the the station 9 that is not a taco that is a two-piece sheath so that's two
52:50
pieces of kidex that have been put together and then uh there's rivets and
52:55
they grind all the way around this one it is a single piece of kidex that is folded over your knife and in my opinion
53:04
and also I think uh Jersey Devil and Canadian craftsman will agree with me
53:10
this is the superior way to go with kidex for a knife it is more secure it
53:15
is more low profile you have less um excess material
53:20
and rivets and all that stuff so if you're looking for a knife that's more concealable that can go into a pocket or
53:26
it's just more comfortable uh and more secure that the taco sheath is the way
53:31
to go okay hey Gary if I didn't say hi
53:40
already what else we got in here knives knives knives everybody wants to talk about
53:45
knives which is pretty cool okay so here's a knife that is
53:55
um Oh yeah no problem Edwin so here's a knife that um gets a lot of attention as
54:01
well people love to talk about this knife and we're coming close to the close of this live stream this is the
54:07
Cold Steel SRK this is the larger model now you'll notice this one doesn't have
54:14
a lot of use so you'll have to cut me some slack on that one i have not really
54:20
played with this much but I do know that a lot of people love
54:26
the SRK um as an overall combat style survival
54:32
knife um it's full tang it's over molded handle uh SK5 steel made in Taiwan uh
54:40
Cold Steel of course just has great designs comes with a really decent kidex sheath um I've upgraded mine with a
54:48
leather dangler and um retaining strap that I got off of eBay just go in on eBay and search you
54:56
know SRK sheath and you'll come up with that i prefer the sandwich two-piece
55:01
style cut oh really it's easier to put things in like a tech lock on it well yeah you know
55:07
James you're you're right you do you're going to get more eyelets with the um with the sandwich style for sure that's
55:14
a good point have you played with Bark River or White River yeah Jim um I showed this
55:21
Jim earlier i don't know if you if you were on this i just picked up this Bark River
55:26
um EDC little convex pocket goblin look at that thing
55:32
isn't that cool it's great little knife um and then White
55:37
River i've only had one White River and um I think it was the
55:42
Firecraft which was a cool knife i really like the profile but I didn't like the handle the handle was very
55:47
uncomfortable because it had that um kind of skinny handle and then it had that ring on the end of
55:57
it awesome knife i had one US-made one i had an in Iraq are you talking about You
56:02
probably must be talking about the um SRK Gary that's cool thank you for your Are you in the military i assume you are
56:08
if you're in Iraq thank you for your service what do you use for knife
56:15
sharpening oh yeah good question
56:20
uh what do I use for knife sharpeners um Worksharp is a company that makes a
56:28
variety of of knife sharpeners they have some belt style uh knife sanding systems
56:34
i have one of those um I really like their little field uh pocket um
56:40
sharpening system i also have uh is it
56:47
here it's not here i have a Spyderco um um I think it's the Triglide or
56:54
something like that it's the ceramic sticks that go in the plastic base and then you draw the knife through on
57:01
against the ceramic i love ceramic uh for sharpening knives it ceramic does a
57:07
fantastic job of touching up a blade um if it's you know it's if if it's an
57:12
already sharp knife and you go with that that white ceramic like a rod you can really uh get
57:20
a nice razor sharp edge on a knife and then of course if you need to be more aggressive then you need to go to
57:26
diamonds diamond stones things like that wet stones uh I'm not much of a wetstone guy i just don't have I don't think I
57:32
have the experience i would like to learn more about it but it's not something I've done a lot
57:38
with you are retired Army Gary cool what What branch what was your unit or branch
57:46
of service were you in with the army i'm just curious oh yeah so does the Yeah that's
57:52
true the edge of a car window and of course the same thing goes with the um
57:58
edge of a coffee cup like the bottom of a coffee mug ceramic mug can be utilized
58:03
to sharpen a knife um another little trick that I was taught by a friend of mine
58:10
engineer I have a good friend of mine who's an engineer um or was so a good a
58:16
neat little trick for sharpening knives in the field okay we have our palm of our hand um our
58:24
hand is covered in skin skin is basically leather so if you have a knife
58:31
and um you want to strap it and put a final
58:36
edge on
58:44
it breathe into your hand nice heavy breath and that moistens the the palm of
58:51
your hand that skin and then you can strop your knife edge
58:57
um it does a pretty decent job um so sometimes if you're just you know field
59:02
sharpening a knife real quick and then you can pull that out and then do the little um palm of the hand jeans work
59:09
well for stropping as well you can use your jeans like the leg of your jeans and strop a knife that way
59:16
the Ken Onion Deluxe work yeah I've looked at those i really want one yeah you can select the angle have a
59:23
good selection of belts including one for polishing the
59:28
edge yeah Gary that is a terasaur i showed that a little bit earlier um something I picked up this summer when I
59:34
met Joe Flowers and talked to him about uh this knife and this design um if
59:41
you're going to go with a Scandi field knife I think Terasaur is fantastic it's
59:48
a really cool knife and of course it's Condor it's 1095 hardcarbon steel can't beat that
59:55
love 1095 yeah the Ken the Ken yeah right
1:00:00
Bart the Ken Onion is super cool all right guys it has been an hour
1:00:08
um I hate to say goodbye but I I think I need to you have a Condor Bushler yeah
1:00:15
bushlers are great that's a great basic um bushcraft knife for people so I'm
1:00:20
going to sign off for now um I think we will try to do one of these again um
1:00:27
maybe later this week or next thanks Bart i am I'm working on
1:00:32
