Thank you
0:30
I'm I'm
1:30
I'm I'm
2:30
I'm Okay, looks like I'm getting in the dry ground again, which is great
3:20
This might work. I'm
4:00
I'm I'm
5:00
So it's hovering right around freezing
5:18
And we've had a couple days yesterday, particularly, heavy rain. So this little lowland area that I hiked in at is completely
5:30
completely flooded because there is a stream, small stream, creek actually that goes through it
5:37
That connects to some ponds over that way and everything kind of flowing towards the trail and completely flooded all the ground and there was actually woods that I wanted to set up back there that are underwater so I had to
5:55
hike back a little bit further go up a little bit a little bit higher ground and this area is dry so
6:05
I collected some water at a pond that had a light bit of
6:11
ice on it, broke through that, filled my whirl bag with dirty water, and then I transferred it to
6:21
another bag with my bandana, and this is the military cravat. Of course, this is a multi-purpose item
6:33
I can use this as a sling, a dew rag, and of course I used it to filter out some of chunks
6:41
So I'll let this dry and this will go back in my bag. And then I added a water purification tab, the MicroPure from Cedadine
6:51
And that treat one tablet will treat one liter of water. I'm about at one liter
6:55
It's probably a little, maybe a little less. It's close. But I'm going to let that activate while I'm setting up camp
7:02
because what I want to do is I want to take this kit that I've put together
7:09
as a basic go bag from various military items and some civilian items as well
7:18
but it really was inspired by military survival kits and military go bags that I've looked at
7:23
And I thought this pack in particular, this waste pack, this Mali 2 waist bag that they're still
7:31
producing in different camos is really a great size for a survival kit go bag
7:37
something you can throw in the back of your vehicle, you can throw on your waist if you go out on a hike
7:43
it can go on the bottom of a larger backpack if you're striking out from a base camp. So what I wanted
7:49
to do is I wanted to come out here with this kit that I put together and just test some various items that
7:54
are in it and show you how they work. See if I can learn anything from using them because having all
8:00
this stuff is great and it's great showing it. But if you don't actually come out and try
8:04
experimenting with different stuff, when you really need it. it, you're going to be in a world of hurt. So what I've got is a poncho. And I've got my
8:17
bungee cords set up on it so I can string that up. Of course I've got my 550 cord
8:27
You saw the whirl bags there in my kit. I've also got this military issue wire saw. This is the older
8:37
style. I don't know if they're still issuing these or not. I've played with this before in other
8:45
videos I think a long time ago but I want to try it again. Kind of mess with a little bit. So we've got
8:49
that. I've got this item which is the blizzard IFAC bag. This is kind of a thermal bag that you
9:00
can open up in an emergency keep it warm. And then it's a
9:07
to my kit is an s-bit stove. So I can have a means of heating up water. And of course
9:17
the s-bit stoves are great, low light, low signature stoves to heat up things. So you
9:23
don't have to build a big fire in case someone is looking for you and you want to stay
9:27
more stealthy. You can use an s-bit. So they're a great military item issued in
9:34
Europe with a lot of the armies over there. And then What I've done is I've put together this Tranjia style tin, cooked tin that I can boil water in
9:46
I can cook coffee or broth in, but this houses all of my items that I would carry in the survival kit
9:54
Whirlbags got more of those. I've got a notebook from Ezi, and it's got grid readers in the back
10:03
I have a pencil. don't need a pen. Pencil works just fine. I have the Army-style pocket knife. This is actually
10:16
by marbles, so it's a reproduction of theirs, but it works pretty well. Then I've got a
10:24
mini compass, some sulca, and a little U.S.T. whistle
10:36
Got some coffee, some salt, and a boulillon cube
10:45
A couple small bandages and stary strips
11:01
Another great item is this little fire starter. and it's got some little cotton balls in the bottom of that
11:11
So we got that. Blistex. Issue matches in a match container, waterproof
11:24
and that actually has a compass built into it. I don know if that an issue or not It may not be Looks like it It kind of hard to tell some of the stuff that you get You think it issue and then you find out it not
11:38
This is a really nice little marker survival panel. I got this I think from Five Call
11:44
Survival supply of a bit length below for that. So, but it's nice and compact, but still you have signaling
11:50
And then of course, I always carry some man-made fire starting. This is a death
11:57
dam soaked in wax military issues toilet paper from the MREs and then my signal
12:08
mirror heavy duty and then goes in this nice little tin and I can put on top of
12:19
my stove I'm gonnae
12:29
I'm gonnae. I'm gonnae. I'm gonnae. I'm We're gonnae
13:08
I'm going to be. I'm gonnae. I'm Everything's in plastic
13:49
It makes it tough when it's cold and you gotta work with your gloves off
13:54
Everything's got to be cut open. I got two strikers with that
14:08
I've got two strikers with that. Put one away. It's always a good idea as you're working with stuff to put it away
14:21
Best you can. What will happen is you will lose it, especially on this forest floor, everything's brown. Okay
14:34
Oh, wow. There's water
14:44
I'm purified. There's my striker. There's my striker. Let's set that right in the middle
15:00
Good thing the ground's really wet. The ground's really wet, the leaves are, so I don't have to worry about clearing off a lot of debris
15:33
I'm gonnae. I'm gonnae. I'm I'm
16:37
So with this poncho shelter, there's a couple things that you need to be aware of
16:48
One is small. You're not going to get a lot of room in here, but if you close off the top where the hood is at
16:55
if you wrap an elastic band around it, it will help keep the rain out, it will stay dry
17:02
But if you pitch this thing low enough to the ground, you shouldn't get a lot of
17:07
stuff coming in from the sides. I got mine raised up just a little bit, just for some airflow, but
17:13
all in all I completely under it I not even all the way down inside of it I kind of sticking out so I could cook my coffee or make my coffee but there still plenty of room in here for me to
17:29
just stretch out and to get a good night's sleep because the thing is a huge key to this kind
17:37
of scenario is staying dry and staying warm and cutting the wind
17:43
cutting the rain, snow, whatever you're in, keeping yourself dry is really crucial
17:49
So what I can do is I've got my military side-wind or flashlight. There
18:18
Pull that up. Now I've got a little lantern
18:28
for inside my shelter. I'm gonna So, So
19:34
The So, there it is, there's my improvised bow saw
20:09
If I put a little tension on the back here, maybe, what I can do is..
20:26
I can match it on the end. There. There
20:43
I notched it on this end and set up there so it up there so it pulls a little
21:03
pulls a little bit tighter. But that's a pretty good bosal. All right guys
21:28
All packed up, ready to go home. It was a lot of fun coming out here and testing some of this stuff
21:32
and some of this stuff just to see how it would work. I really like setting up that poncho shelter. I think that's a viable option
21:38
for a civilian is to have a poncho with them and use that as a shelter
21:44
You know, there's a lot of great surplus out there and military survival gear that you can buy
21:50
But you need to come out and you need to test it out and try it out. I'm glad I did. I learned a few things. I always do when I come out. I always learn something
21:58
You're never too old or too experienced to learn some more stuff
22:04
And that's what this is all about is coming out and trying things and having fun and learning new stuff
22:08
