if you hate the tracker knife and you
0:01
think it's a gimmick you should probably
0:02
shut this video off because
0:05
today we're going to be looking at the
0:07
tracker
0:09
folder stick around

[Music]
0:26
so a few weeks ago i got this knife and
0:30
at that time i posted some photos on
0:32
instagram and facebook and
0:34
overwhelmingly everybody has been asking
0:37
um are you going to do a review of this
0:40
everybody's very interested in this
0:41
knife and
0:43
um you know i saw a lot of posts before
0:47
i bought it and i knew i had to try it i
0:50
really wanted it uh i'm a big fan of the
0:52
the tom brown topps tracker i have a t1
0:57
it is very well loved and very well
0:59
modified um is not the original anymore
1:02
but it performs very well at a lot of
1:05
different tasks and that's why i love it
1:08
it's just a beast of a knife well um
1:12
winger knives um has been making his own
1:16
version of trackers and he uh working
1:20
with boer plus did a lot of
1:22
collaborations um a few years ago on a
1:25
full-size tracker and then i think
1:26
there's a midsize and there's even a
1:29
mini tracker well this year they came
1:32
out with
1:33
the tracker folder so the tracker folder
1:36
is 154 cm um it came out of the box
1:41
super sharp uh i've been messing with it
1:44
here and there just you know doing some
1:46
whittling feather sticks just kind of
1:48
goofing around with it um and it has
1:51
performed to to my satisfaction so far i
1:54
in fact i really love this knife and
1:56
some of the things that i'm um really
1:58
digging about it is one it's a flipper
2:00
which i love flipping knives i think
2:03
those are probably my favorite just
2:05
because they're so easy to to
2:08
open can do it very quickly and then
2:12
also it has my carter scales has a nice
2:16
g10 back spacer there's a brass uh
2:20
spacer in there it's a heavy duty knife
2:24
but it's not overly gigantic it's not
2:27
overly heavy but it's just very wellb
2:30
built and i think um boer plus and
2:34
winger did a fantastic job with this
2:36
knife so i think it bridges a gap
2:39
because you know recently i've been
2:41
really like liking to carry bigger
2:44
knives with me so 5 in 6 in blades
2:48
instead of smaller knives and then this
2:52
um really fits in as my small uh project
2:56
knife so i can do feather sticks and
2:58
whittling and you know little chores
3:01
around camp and then use my big knife
3:03
for tasks like chopping and batoning and
3:07
um processing u
3:20
wood so here i have some um seasoned
3:23
hardwood that's uh been processed down
3:27
what's unique about the trackr design is
3:29
this curve and what this does is it
3:31
turns the knife into more of a draw
3:33
knife because that's really what that
3:34
intended um little hook or curve to the
3:37
blade is is to use it like a draw knife
3:40
and this is the example that i like to
3:43
show people when they start kind of
3:46
talking poorly about
3:48
trackers is this is where the tracker
3:51
really excels is making these very
3:54
fine thin ribbon curly q shavings when
3:59
you do it in the draw knife position
4:02
which is pulling it towards you um and i
4:05
know for a lot of people that they think
4:06
that's kind of odd that you would pull a
4:08
knife towards you because it's very
4:10
dangerous but it is not there's a lot of
4:11
control with this um once you get your
4:15
curls
4:17
going the knife
4:22
stops now the other way of doing it of
4:25
course is
4:27
down and it does that very well too
4:31
and if you angle it just
4:39
right you start
4:41
getting these little guys and so why is
4:45
this important
4:46
well you know when we all first start
4:48
learning how to do feather sticks our
4:51
curls you know look like lasagna noodles
4:53
they're they're thick they're too big
4:57
and they don't take a spark very well
4:58
but when you start getting down to what
5:01
i call surely temple curls these very
5:04
small
5:05
thin curly cues these take a spark a lot
5:09
better than big fat shavings so you get
5:13
a pile of these going and you're in
5:15
business for using a ferro rod
5:28
also it has a bit of a guard
5:32
um down here you can see where there's
5:35
kind of a cutout on the handle and then
5:39
the what is
5:41
the the
5:44
flipper comes down and that creates a
5:46
guard at the bottom of the knife so it
5:49
really gives you a lot of control when
5:50
you're holding this thing and then of
5:51
course there is a pronounced thumb ramp
5:54
with
5:55
some light gimping to
6:16
it right here i'm just kind of planing
6:18
the surface of this stick
6:21
smoothing it out
6:45
what's nice about this is it's a very
6:48
capable small pocket knife um that you
6:52
can carry with you all the time and if
6:55
you are in a pinch and you don't have a
6:56
larger knife to work with for doing um
6:59
some wood processing or getting some
7:00
good feather sticks going this is an
7:03
option and of course other knives do you
7:05
know just as well and
7:08
um are fine but for me there's just a
7:12
lot of love with the trackr design and i
7:16
think boker plus did a really nice job
7:17
with this one it's just um they knocked
7:20
it out of the park and of course winger
7:24
the knives that he designs are just so
7:27
awesome i admire all of them um i wish i
7:30
could afford them but um at least i can
7:33
get the boer pluses in my collection and
7:35
i've got a few of them
8:01
so this was just a quick video to show
8:03
you guys this little guy and uh kind of
8:07
tell you how much i love it um i think
8:09
these are retailing anywhere from 115 to
8:12
125 so not um super cheap but certainly
8:17
more affordable than let's say some of
8:19
the knives in the benchmade line or some
8:21
of the higherend spyder co um this is
8:24
very affordable i think compared to
8:26
those and i think this has a lot of um
8:29
possibility as a really decent um woods
8:34
carry pocket knife if you like this kind
