Protein Myths That Just Won’t Die...
For years, we’ve been told that more protein = better health, but the science says otherwise. The truth? Most people are already eating WAYYY more protein than they need, and it is not doing their health any favors.
❌ Myth: You need more than the RDA to be healthy.
✅ Fact: The RDA (0.8g/kg or 0.36g/lb) is more than enough for most adults, even those who exercise regularly. Excess protein doesn’t build more muscle. It just creates more work for your kidneys.
❌ Myth: High-protein diets are good for your bones.
✅ Fact: Too much protein, especially from animal sources, increases acid load in the body, which pulls calcium from bones and raises the risk of fractures.
❌ Myth: More protein = better athletic performance.
✅ Fact: Even elite athletes don’t need excessive protein. Strength and endurance are built through training and balanced nutrition, not overloading on protein shakes.
❌ Myth: Plant protein isn’t as good as animal protein.
✅ Fact: Plant-based protein provides all essential amino acids when eating a variety of foods, and all without the cholesterol, saturated fat, and disease risk that come with animal protein.
Instead of obsessing over protein, focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods that support overall health. 💚💪
