My name is Shirley Hartcastle
0:02
I purchased a 2016 Audi. The purchase that I made had a preexisting problem
0:09
that the dealership that I was dealing with would not work with me on correcting the problem
0:18
They wanted to definitely correct the problem, but they wanted me to pay $11,500 to correct the problem
0:27
And I didn't feel it was my responsibility. The car was only just a few months old
0:35
And obviously, the problem was preexisting. And I don't feel like I should have paid for a preexisting problem
0:46
I purchased a 2016 out of Q5 on April the 9th of 2022
0:56
That was something that was actually the out of was a dream car
1:02
I had been trying to purchase one for the past several years
1:07
and the opportunity just didn't come about at that time, and it came about this time
1:13
So I was really thrilled that I was able to go and purchase an Audi
1:18
I did not purchase a new Audi. I purchased a pre-owned, obviously, at 2016
1:24
the vehicle that I purchased, I was really excited about. It looked amazing
1:35
And little did I know, like about four weeks down the road, I was driving home one afternoon
1:43
and the engine light came on, the oil light came on. And so I was really, I thought, oh my gosh, what am I going to do
1:53
You know, can I continue driving? because I was still a little bit of a distance from home
1:58
So I actually called my husband, and he called Audi. And the company that I bought it from dealership was Audi Dominion in San Antonio
2:09
And so he called them, and they said, yes, it was okay to go ahead and continue driving home
2:14
So I did. And they wanted me to bring the vehicle in
2:18
They wanted to top off the oil. And I thought, topping off the oil, I don't think that's going to
2:24
and fix it, but I'll go ahead and do, you know, what they want me to do. So I did take the vehicle
2:31
in. They did top off the oil, and I left. And so, and they said that the oil being, or like
2:42
come wrong like that, was not unusual. That was normal. So I questioned it being normal. I have
2:51
never had a car where the oil light came on and that was normal. That just didn't
2:59
did not seem normal to me. So about another, about five weeks, I guess went by again
3:08
The light came on again. So I called the dealership where I purchased it from and told them
3:14
hey, you know, the oil light came on again. And they told me the same thing. Bring it in. We'll go ahead and
3:21
pop it off. So I did what they asked me to do. And I did talk to the service manager
3:30
you know, about that. And he said, oh, yeah, he said, I get a lot of those certain years and
3:37
certain models. He said, I get a lot of those that come in here where we have to talk off the
3:42
engine oil. So I said, okay, I find that to be a little strange. But anyways, so I left
3:51
to the dealership and again about another four to five weeks down the road the oil light came on again So I went to the dealership again and they told me they said
4:06
we're going to have to test the Audi for oil consumption. We're going to have to do an oil consumption test
4:13
So I said, okay, so I scheduled it to go in. He said it was a two-part test
4:18
So I said, okay. So I scheduled the first one to come in, and they did whatever it was that they needed
4:26
to do as far as testing it for oil consumption. And then they said, we'd like you to bring it back after you have gone approximately 600 miles
4:37
So that's exactly what I did. I took it back. And they did the second part of the oil consumption test
4:46
And the results were, it was a piston problem. So I said, okay
4:53
they said the cost to do that repair is $11,500. I was rather blown away at that
5:06
I thought, okay, I mean, I understand, you know, it's not an American-made car
5:11
You know, it is a European vehicle. But $11,500, I just, I couldn't quite grasp that
5:21
I just thought that was ridiculous. I felt like the vehicle, the Audi that I purchased, had this problem
5:31
It was a preexisting problem. It was a preexisting problem when the owner had it
5:37
So the owner went ahead, previous owner went ahead and decided to trade it in
5:42
And they put it on the lot. And I came along and bought it and I bought the problem
5:49
So I was pretty upset about it, you know, the fact that I purchased a vehicle that
5:58
apparently had a pre-existing problem. So the dealership that I purchased it from, they came and, you know, they talked to me about
6:12
the manager did. And he said, well, he said, the only thing we can do is to go ahead
6:19
and do the changing or whatever, whatever they do to correct the piston problem
6:26
because it was a using oil. And I was not happy with that answer
6:33
because I felt like I was sold something, again, that had a preexisting problem that I was not aware of
6:42
and I bought the problem. And I didn't feel like I should have been
6:48
responsible for buying a pre-existing problem. The dealership did not work with me very well
7:01
They suggested that, you know, I just go ahead and, you know, trade it in and get another vehicle
7:08
Well, I just bought the vehicle, April 9th. The vehicle wasn't, it was right at six months old when this started, well, a little bit less than six months
7:18
when this started reoccurring, this problem with the engine oil. And so I was not happy about it
7:26
I said I felt like I was treated unfairly. I was sold a vehicle that had a preexisting problem that I was not made aware of
7:36
So why should I absorb the cost of $11,500 to repair this oil consumption problem
7:48
They kept telling me the same thing over and over. Actually the service manager actually told me because I brought up the question you know why hasn Audi if this is something that preexisting in certain year models and certain outies certain models I said why isn Audi addressing this problem and you know
8:11
doing the repair on this so this doesn't continue to happen? The service manager told me
8:17
he said, if they, let me see if I can put it in the exact words, if they repair the problem
8:23
or they correct the problem, that's only going to create other problems
8:33
And I said it would lose, lose what? Oh, it would lose
8:38
He said it would lose, it would lose their, it's performance. I can't see how correcting a problem with a vehicle
8:46
would make a vehicle lose its performance. It just didn't make any sense to me
8:53
You know, maybe I'm not seeing the full picture, but I kind of felt like I was
9:02
You know, they were trying. What I felt like they were doing, they was basically trying to get out of having to do anything as far as doing something about the problem that I purchased
9:17
I went ahead and I did trade it in and I bought a vehicle that I did not want
9:26
because not only you know the not only was I going to be paying
9:33
for the Audi that I did not have but I was also financing a vehicle that I didn't want
9:40
so now I'm stuck with a huge payment for a vehicle that I no longer have because I traded the Audi in and and I mean
9:58
I had to buy another vehicle. So now the financing that I did on the Audi carries over now
10:08
to the financing that I had to do for the vehicle that I didn't want. And I feel like that I have
10:15
been treated very unfairly. I feel like Audi, you know, they are a reptile manufacturer
10:23
and I felt like they should have gone maybe just a step out of their way. So I could have maybe
10:30
possibly got into another Audi without these high payments, you know, and stuff. And with them
10:38
not working with me like they should. I mean, yes, they did give me a trade-in, a member
10:45
But I in my when I bought the Audi originally the 2016 Audi I put down $7,500
10:56
Plus I paid off the vehicle, which only had a couple of payments
11:00
I paid off my trade in. So I felt like I did my part
11:08
You know, when I did the trade in and everything, I was just so excited
11:12
I was so thrilled to get this Audi. You know, I thought, okay, you know, I am trading in
11:18
I had a 2012 Cadillac. So I traded in my Cadillac, which I felt like was in condition
11:26
The Audi that I purchased, I did not look at it, and it's my fault
11:32
I did not look at it close enough like I should have. It had other issues too
11:39
I purchased it on a Friday, and I did not pick it up until Monday
11:43
and the make ready department did the shoddy's job I have ever seen on a make on a make ready of a vehicle that was just purchased
11:54
I was appalled at the at the job that they did I mean it was just it was awful It was just awful You know they they ran it through the car wash They didn bother to do you know to wipe it down or anything
12:10
It had spots all over it. It was dirty. They didn't vacuum it properly
12:17
The whole, my whole purchase, my experience on purchasing this Audi was a nightmare
12:23
Was a nightmare. And the biggest part of the nightmare was the oil consumption
12:28
and them wanting me to pay $11,500 to fix the problem. When it was a pre-existing problem, obviously with the other owner or why would they have traded in
12:41
Yeah, they could have traded in for a later model, of course. And I totally did that, but I felt like Audie should have done an overall inspection
12:52
of a vehicle they took in on a trade-in. And the vehicle that I got when I traded the Audi in needs brakes
13:04
So, you know, they didn't go through. They told me that they go through this 20-something point inspection of the vehicles
13:13
There was no 20-point inspection or otherwise they would have caught the brake issue that the car that I have right now, they would have caught the break problem
13:23
So I felt like I am pain. I don't feel like I know that I'm paying for two vehicles
13:32
one of which I don't have. And I am not happy about that. I thought Adi treated me very poorly
13:40
Part of the city of San Antonio that is not very well liked and it's called the South Side of San Antonio
13:47
and there's a lot of low-income dealerships and things like that over there
13:53
So I felt like they were treating me like I would have possibly been treated over on that particular area of town
14:02
And I did not appreciate that. I felt like I was talked down to, but most of it felt like I was cheated
14:10
I felt like it was lied to. They did not do the proper inspections that I felt like they should have done
14:17
a vehicle, on an Audi vehicle. And I'm very disappointed. And having to pay for a vehicle I don't have and paying for another vehicle that I had to purchase
14:32
I feel that it is, it's wrong. It's not the way to treat a customer
14:39
I felt like they should have came forward a little bit more and worked with me better
14:45
So in my book, I have a very bad taste in my mouth as it goes about the Audi vehicle itself
14:56
Because I was lied to and I did not appreciate that. I would not have done that
15:04
I feel like I wouldn't have not done that to anybody. And it was being done to me
15:10
And there was nothing that I could do about it. So that's why I decided to contact you
15:17
I think y'all should know what's going on out there with the dealer
15:23
with the outy dealerships, this one in particular. So I felt like I was done an injustice
15:30
At this point, they should pay off the outy that I'm still paying for
15:37
I think they should pay it off. They got the vehicle. I no longer obviously have the vehicle
15:42
And I think that they should pay it off so I'm not making the payment on that Audi
15:49
So I'm not paying for that Audi. There should be no reason for me to be paying for this Audi
15:55
They took my money, you know, and gave me nothing in return
