2:09
>> Hey folks, welcome to Phantoms of
2:11
Monsters Radio.
2:14
Now, a sound [clears throat] outside our
2:15
tent, a figure crossing a back road, a
2:19
dog growling at something beyond the
2:21
fence. In the accounts you hear tonight,
2:24
those are the moments when familiar
2:26
sounds become frightening and the people
2:28
described them begin to question what
2:30
they thought they knew. Welcome to
2:33
Phantom of Monsters Radio.
2:36
Now, tonight we're exploring unexplained
2:37
Appalachia through reports from
2:39
Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, North
2:42
Carolina, Kentucky, and Northern
2:44
Georgia.
2:46
Some describe
2:48
brief encounters with figures the
2:50
witnesses could not identify. Others
2:52
recount long nights spent listening,
2:54
waiting, hoping that whatever was nearby
2:57
would leave.
2:59
And one begins with a drive through
3:01
rural Virginia and a gap in the
3:03
witness's memory.
3:05
These witness accounts and submitted
3:08
report summaries
3:10
will distinguish what people say they
3:12
observe from what they believe those
3:15
observations may have meant.
3:18
A frightening experience can be sincere
3:20
and still leave us without a clear
3:22
explanation.
3:23
Our first account takes us to
3:25
Pennsylvania's Misho State Forest
3:28
where two friends stopped for the night
3:30
along the Appalachian Trail. One of them
3:33
had forgotten the tent's rainfly.
3:37
That left a clear view of the trees
3:40
overhead and nothing to block that view
3:42
if someone outside decided to look down.
3:48
At a witness states, "My friend and I
3:50
had a creepy Appalachian Trail
3:52
experience.
3:53
We had started in southwestern Virginia
3:56
and plan to hike into northeastern
3:57
Pennsylvania.
3:59
This incident happened in south central
4:01
Pennsylvania. the Misho State Forest.
4:04
My friend brought the tent, but forgot
4:07
the rainfly.
4:10
He liked being able to look up into the
4:12
sky, but I felt uncomfortable.
4:15
He was a heavy sleeper and fell asleep
4:17
almost immediately. I stayed awake,
4:19
staring through the screen at the
4:21
treetops,
4:23
desperately trying to fall asleep.
4:25
Finally, I began to snooze. Now, after
4:28
what I assumed had been a couple hours,
4:30
a sound woke me. It was still dark. I
4:34
lay there trying to figure out what had
4:36
wakened me, straining my ears. That's
4:39
when I heard a heavy thump thump thump
4:42
directly next to the tent. Literally on
4:46
the other side of where I was lying. I
4:48
froze and listened. The thumps weren't
4:51
close together.
4:53
It would be one then a pause for about 5
4:56
seconds and another. It sounded as if
4:59
whoever was out there was playing intent
5:01
being intentionally creepy or perhaps
5:04
trying to be quiet. The sounds seemed
5:07
like they could have come from a large
5:09
man wearing boots or an enormous animal
5:11
stomping around. Now, I didn't hear
5:13
heavy breathing or anything else I would
5:15
normally associate with a large animal.
5:19
I lay there terrified, praying that this
5:21
thing would not come over and look down
5:23
through the top of the tent. It was
5:26
right next to us. It would have been so
5:29
easy for it to glance inside.
5:31
I wanted to wake my friend, but I didn't
5:34
want to make any noise. So, I lay on my
5:36
back all night, my heart in my throat,
5:38
staring through the screen at the trees
5:41
and hoping whatever was outside wouldn't
5:43
look in. From what I could see, it never
5:47
did. And as soon as the sun rose, we
5:49
were out of there. I made a quick check
5:52
of our surroundings while packing, but
5:54
the area was very overgrown. From what I
5:57
could tell, there were no footprints. My
6:00
friend thought it was crazy. Mark
6:02
thought I was crazy.
6:04
He still says he he didn't hear
6:06
anything. I wonder whether it could have
6:08
been a Bigfoot. I later learned from
6:10
claims of Bigfoot sightings and other
6:11
unexplained activity in Misho State
6:13
Forest.
6:15
Now the witness never saw what made
6:18
those sounds. The suggestion of foot
6:21
Bigfoot came later. During the encounter
6:24
itself, there was only heavy impacts
6:26
beside the tent in the fear of being
6:28
discovered. Now in our next report, two
6:31
hikers had heard movement outside their
6:33
shelter. But when morning came, one of
6:36
them found something in the dirt, a
6:38
bootprint that belonged to neither of
6:40
them.
6:41
Now, the witness writes, "Back in 2018,
6:44
my girlfriend and I decided to hike the
6:46
Appalachian Trail in Virginia. We had
6:49
hiked sections further north, but we had
6:51
never traveled this far south. Our trip
6:54
took us through George Washington and
6:56
Jefferson National Forest. It was early
6:58
October. The air was crisp and cool. The
7:01
weather was perfect for hiking, and the
7:03
scenery was beautiful. Most of the trip
7:06
was uneventful. Then during our final
7:09
couple of nights, things began become
7:11
strange.
7:13
We wanted to a secluded campsite where
7:15
we wouldn't encounter other people or
7:17
have anyone approach us during the
7:18
night. Now, after searching for a while,
7:21
we found a small clearing away from the
7:23
trail.
7:25
We set up camp, cooked some food,
7:26
talked, and eventually settled into the
7:28
tent. Sometime around 2 in the morning,
7:31
my girlfriend shook me awake. Get your
7:33
gun. Someone's outside walking around
7:36
our tent.
7:38
She said she had been awakened to the
7:39
sound of someone dragging a knife or
7:41
another object along the side of the
7:43
tent while circling us. I carried a 45
7:47
automatic handgun. I retrieved it from
7:49
my pack and we sat silently listening.
7:52
After a while, we heard snapping and
7:54
crunching in the woods behind the tent.
7:57
It sounded like someone or something
7:59
walking through the forest.
8:01
I took my flashlight and quietly left
8:03
the tent. Now, our fire had gone out, so
8:06
the clearing was almost completely dark.
8:09
I told my girlfriend to stay inside.
8:12
Now, I didn't turn on the flashlight
8:13
immediately. I waited and listened, and
8:16
after several minutes, the movement
8:19
sounded to me like someone was walking
8:20
on two legs. I switched on the
8:23
flashlight. I thought I saw someone move
8:25
behind a tree. I yelled that I was armed
8:28
and ordered whoever it was to leave.
8:31
With the light trained on the area and
8:32
my gun drawn, I slowly approached the
8:35
tree. Then I heard it. Then I heard what
8:38
sounded like someone running away
8:40
through the woods to my right. I spun
8:42
around and pointed the flashlight in
8:44
that direction. And at that moment, I
8:46
heard whoever or whatever had been near
8:48
the original tree took off into the
8:50
forest.
8:51
There was no chance I was going to
8:53
pursue them. I returned to camp and sat
8:55
outside the tent until daybreak. The
8:58
following morning, I searched for
9:00
evidence. Now, in some soft, moist dirt
9:02
not far from the tenant, I discovered a
9:04
bootprint. It didn't belong to me or my
9:07
girlfriend. That frightened me because
9:09
it confirmed in my mind that someone had
9:11
been moving around our campsite. I also
9:13
wondered whether more than one person
9:15
had been there. I kept the discovery to
9:18
myself. My girlfriend was already
9:20
frightened and we still had two days
9:22
remaining on our hike. And throughout
9:24
the following day, I had the persistent
9:26
feeling that we were being followed. I
9:29
didn't see or hear anyone. I had no
9:30
confirmation. It was a strong gut
9:32
feeling. When it was time to camp again,
9:36
I chose a location near a cliff. We
9:38
positioned the tent beneath a small
9:40
overhang so no one could approach us
9:42
from behind. We prepared food and went
9:45
into the tent. I kept the gun beside me,
9:48
assured my girlfriend that if I slept at
9:49
all, it would be with one eye open. She
9:52
eventually fell asleep. I stayed awake
9:55
for several hours listening to the
9:57
voice, but at some point I drifted off.
10:00
Now, I later awakened to the sound of
10:01
someone going through our belongings
10:03
outside. I grabbed the gun and willed my
10:05
girlfriend. In a faint glow of the fire,
10:08
I could see someone's silhouette against
10:10
the tent. Someone was definitely
10:13
outside. I yelled that I was armed. The
10:16
person immediately stopped what they
10:17
were doing and ran.
10:20
I got out. I came out with the gun
10:22
drawn. Our belongings had been scattered
10:24
around the campsite. I walked toward the
10:27
edge of the woods in the direction the
10:28
intruder had fled. A creek ran nearby
10:31
with a small trail beside it. Now,
10:33
further down the trail, further down the
10:35
creek, I could see a flickering light
10:37
that looked like a lantern. Then, three
10:40
additional lights emerged in the woods
10:41
on the opposite side. I told my
10:44
girlfriend to pack whatever she could,
10:46
and we were leaving immediately. We
10:49
collected everything of value but
10:50
abandoned the tent and several other
10:52
items. We returned to the Appalachian
10:55
Trail and began walking in the middle of
10:57
the night. Now, for some distance, I
10:59
could hear people talking in the woods
11:01
and branches snapping around us. I
11:04
looked behind us every few seconds to
11:06
make sure no one was approaching. It was
11:08
completely nerve-wracking.
11:11
We were far from help. We hadn't seen
11:13
another hiker during the trip, and I
11:15
believe we were in serious danger. We
11:18
had been walking for quite some time
11:19
when I heard something moving through
11:21
the woods behind us. And as we rounded
11:24
the corner, I turned and saw someone
11:25
step onto the trail. The person simply
11:28
stood there and watched us. The sun was
11:31
just beginning to rise. There was barely
11:33
enough light to see, and I couldn't make
11:34
out any features, only a silhouette. I
11:38
stopped and asked who they were and what
11:40
they wanted. They didn't answer. They
11:43
remained completely silent, watching us.
11:46
At very moment, the figure turned and
11:49
walked back into the woods. We increased
11:51
our pace and continued, checking behind
11:54
us every so often. We didn't see the
11:57
figure again, although I continued to
11:59
feel that whoever had followed us
12:00
remained nearby for some distance.
12:03
We eventually reached the end of our
12:05
hike and returned to my girlfriend's
12:07
car. We were exhausted, but we had made
12:10
it out.
12:12
a bootprint, disturbed belongings,
12:14
voices in the woods. Those details point
12:16
toward human intruders. Although the
12:18
report leaves their identities and
12:20
intentions unresolved.
12:22
Now, the next encounter was much
12:24
shorter. No campsite, no prolonged
12:27
pursuit. A vehicle turned into the
12:29
wooded road and something crossed in
12:31
front of it. The witness had grown up
12:34
around local wildlife. They still could
12:37
not identify what they saw.
12:40
The witness writes, "Hello, I'm ready to
12:43
talk. I've never posted this anywhere,
12:45
but I'm prepared to share my story. I
12:47
grew up in the Appalachian region of
12:49
central Pennsylvania.
12:51
This happened sometime between 2014 and
12:54
2016, and I can't remember the exact
12:55
year, but I was around 13 or 14, and I
12:58
was with my girlfriend at the time.
13:00
We'll call her Carrie."
13:02
I had only talked about this with maybe
13:05
six people and we were leaving work with
13:08
Cara's grandmother and driving to her
13:10
house about seven or eight miles away.
13:12
Her grandmother owned a small barbecue
13:14
restaurant where I worked.
13:17
I was used to seeing black bears. I had
13:19
even encountered a bear with mange, but
13:22
that wasn't what I saw.
13:24
I had also hunted growing up and I
13:27
wasn't an expert, but I knew local
13:28
wildlife, including by bipol deer.
13:32
This wasn't one of them either.
13:35
We were about two or three miles from
13:37
her house when we turned off the main
13:40
road onto a smaller road leading into
13:42
the woods and farmland.
13:44
We had gone maybe a quarter of a mile
13:46
near an old pond where I used to fish
13:48
when something came out of the woods. It
13:51
was pale, an offcollar, off-white
13:54
collar, a slightly hunched over.
13:57
It wasn't huge, maybe five foot six at
14:00
the most, although it could have been as
14:02
short as 4 foot. It was humanoid. It I
14:05
didn't see its face, but it was
14:07
definitely on two legs. It sprinted
14:09
across the road and jumped over a sign
14:12
or gate at the entrance to the
14:13
property's deeply wooded driveway. Now,
14:16
Cara's grandmother quickly pulled over
14:17
and said, "What the hell was that?" Then
14:21
was gone. I never saw it again. I didn't
14:24
see giant claws or glowing eyes. I
14:26
didn't notice any visible sexual
14:28
features, just a pale humanoid creature
14:31
running on two legs and jumping over the
14:33
barrier. And at the time, I thought it
14:36
had been the rake.
14:39
It wasn't moving at some unbelievable
14:41
speed. We had just gone fast. We just
14:44
had been going faster. We might have hit
14:46
it. But it was fast, like an adult man
14:49
sprinting. What was that? I never saw it
14:53
again, and I never heard anything
14:55
unusual in the woods afterwards. The
14:57
coyotes disappeared for a couple months,
14:59
or at least they stopped howling. I wish
15:02
I had more to share, but that brief
15:04
experience terrified me. And by the time
15:06
I decided to write about this, I was
15:08
approaching my 24th birthday and
15:09
preparing to lead the milit military
15:12
after serving in infantry
15:14
reconnaissance.
15:16
I still went into Woods and Luna and was
15:18
trying to move into wild wildland
15:20
firefighting.
15:22
I hadn't thought about the encounters in
15:24
a long time. Then while learning about
15:26
Mount St. Helens and hearings about
15:28
strange discoveries in the woods, the
15:30
memory came flooding back.
15:33
It happened so quickly that I was almost
15:35
mostly focused on keeping my composure.
15:38
I'm not a writer. I'm not trying to
15:40
become famous. I just glad to finally
15:42
get it off my chest.
15:46
Now, the witness used that moniker rake
15:49
to describe their first in
15:51
interpretation. Now, the actual
15:52
observation was more limited. Pale
15:55
two-legged feet figure crossing a road
15:57
and clearing a barrier. His face was
16:00
never seen.
16:02
Now, our next witness also saw something
16:04
running upright. This time, it happened
16:06
across a school athletic field close to
16:08
home, and the sighting began with a
16:11
sound that seemed ordinary, a cough.
16:17
Now, the witness states,
16:19
"I lived in the mountainous rural part
16:21
of South Central Virginia.
16:24
My house is a townhouse in a
16:26
neighborhood beside a middle school. I
16:28
had lived there for more than 10 years
16:29
and often walked around the
16:31
neighborhood, the surrounding buildings,
16:33
and the woods during the day. But I
16:35
hadn't gone walking there at night. And
16:38
after starting college, I became
16:39
accustomed to nighttime walks around
16:41
campus than the weather was not when the
16:44
weather was nice. So when I came home
16:47
for winter break during an unusually
16:49
warm week, I decided to do the same
16:51
thing.
16:53
I left the house around midnight. I
16:56
walked over to the middle school and sat
16:57
down on the track, a concrete oval
17:00
around the soccer field. I was relaxing
17:03
and listening to music with one earbud
17:05
in.
17:07
Also had a lit candle on the ground
17:08
about a foot in front of me. That
17:11
probably sounds strange, but sitting
17:13
outside with candles has become a habit
17:15
because I couldn't light them in my
17:16
college room.
17:19
I heard what sounded like a cough. I
17:21
immediately stopped my music and looked
17:23
around. I didn't see anything.
17:26
I tend to get anxious anxious about
17:29
things like that. So, I was on edge even
17:31
though everything appeared fine.
17:34
I sat still for another minute or two
17:36
and started to settle down. Then, I
17:38
heard the cough again.
17:41
I saw something sprinting across the
17:42
field on its back legs.
17:45
It moved faster than I had ever seen
17:47
anything move.
17:49
It reached the other end of the field
17:51
and remained standing on its hind legs.
17:53
I couldn't see it very well. It was dark
17:55
and it was far away.
17:58
Because I had heard coughing and it was
18:00
running on two legs. I initially thought
18:01
it was a person.
18:04
But when it stood it still, it looked
18:06
too large and strangely proportioned to
18:09
to be human. It was also screeching the
18:12
whole time.
18:14
An incredibly loud horror movie sort of
18:17
screech that made my ears ring. It
18:19
appeared to have its back toward me.
18:22
I took that opportunity to gather my
18:24
things and run home. Now, I'm physically
18:27
disabled. I can move around, but usually
18:29
not very quickly.
18:31
I can't think of another time in my life
18:33
when I ran that fast. The only
18:35
paranormal thing I had believed in was
18:37
ghost.
18:39
So, as soon as I got home, I texted my
18:41
friends and searched online for anything
18:42
that might explain what we had seen.
18:46
My friend suggested it could have been
18:47
an injured or diseased deer behaving
18:50
strangely. That was somewhat reassuring.
18:54
I looked for descriptions and videos of
18:56
deer running on their hind legs and
18:58
making unusual sounds, but nothing I
19:00
found looked like what I had seen. None
19:03
of the videos matched any how strangely
19:05
fast it had moved, but to me it had been
19:08
a blur running across the field.
19:12
Now, poor light and distance limit what
19:15
it this account could tell us. The
19:17
witness considered an animal explanation
19:19
but remained troubled by the figure's
19:21
proportions, its apparent speed, and the
19:23
sound they make. Now, in the next
19:26
report, the witness says the encounter
19:28
happened much closer. They were camping
19:31
near Makabe Knob in Virginia when
19:34
something heavy began moving in the
19:37
bushes. They picked up the flashlight
19:39
and went to investigate.
19:43
The witness writes, "Hello, sir. I
19:45
watched your Appalachian Trail
19:47
Encounters video and decided to tell you
19:49
about my experience. This happened in
19:51
the spring of 2018 while I was hiking
19:54
near Makabe Knob in Virginia. I live in
19:57
western North Carolina and had been
19:59
hiking for about a week. I plan to spend
20:01
another two weeks on the trail. I had
20:04
been on on plenty of hikes, but this
20:06
experience was terrifying. It was miday
20:09
and the scenery was breathtaking.
20:11
After hiking for about 5 hours that day,
20:13
I decided to camp near a small brook. I
20:17
was settling down for the night when I
20:19
heard rustling in the nearby bushes.
20:22
It wasn't something I could dismiss as a
20:24
rabbit or squirrel. It sounded louder
20:26
and heavier. I thought it might have
20:29
been another person or perhaps a deer. I
20:32
tried to put it out of my mind, but the
20:34
noise continued in exactly the same spot
20:36
just outside the campsite.
20:39
It wasn't wasn't growing fainter or
20:41
moving away. I grabbed my flashlight,
20:43
walked toward it, and as I approached,
20:45
the rustling stopped. Then I had an
20:48
overwhelming feeling that something was
20:50
watching me. It's difficult to explain.
20:53
I felt like I was on display.
20:56
I shined the flashlight around and saw
20:58
trees, bushes, and darkness beyond the
21:00
beam. Then I heard a low, guttural
21:04
growl.
21:06
I might even say I felt it. It seemed to
21:09
vibrate through the ground. I felt an
21:11
immediate sense of dread as though I was
21:13
in danger. My heart raced and I
21:16
struggled to breathe. My mind was
21:18
telling me to get out of there, but my
21:20
body wouldn't respond. That was when an
21:22
enormous figure slowly emerged from the
21:24
shadows. It was standing on two legs.
21:27
We've all heard stories about Sasquatch
21:29
or Bigfoot, but seeing something like
21:31
that for yourself is is might much
21:34
different. The lighting was poor. There
21:36
were was very little moonlight, but when
21:39
my flashlight hit it, I could see how
21:41
gigantic it was. I would estimate it
21:44
stood 8 to nt tall. It towered over me
21:46
and gave off an overwhelming sense of
21:48
raw power. Its shoulders looked as wide
21:52
as a small car. That's how broad it
21:55
appeared to me. Its arms hung almost to
21:57
its knees.
21:59
It It looked heavily muscled beneath the
22:02
matted black hair that blended into the
22:04
shadows.
22:06
The face is something I will never
22:08
forget. It seemed more human than ape,
22:10
although I still it still wasn't quite
22:12
human. Its eyes were large and
22:14
expressive, reflecting the flashlight.
22:18
What start what startled me was the
22:20
intelligence I thought I could see in
22:21
them. The nose was flat, more like ours
22:25
than a bear's or a wolves.
22:28
Then its mouth open. I could see large
22:31
teeth that looked very sharp.
22:33
I could see its breath coming out in a
22:36
slow stream of vapor.
22:39
It was kind of a sight that you'd expect
22:41
in a nightmare. It made another deep
22:44
rumbling growl that something that
22:46
seemed to shake the ground beneath me.
22:49
There was a power to the sound I just
22:52
can't really describe. Now, suddenly, it
22:54
left out a roar that echoed through the
22:56
forest. Then, just as suddenly, it
22:59
disappeared from my flashlight beam.
23:02
I slowly swept the lay back trying to
23:05
locate it. I couldn't see anything. And
23:08
there that's where I stood there with my
23:10
heart pounding. Only then did I realize
23:13
that sweat was pouring down my face and
23:15
chest. I didn't sleep at night. Every
23:18
sounded shadow kept me on edge. I
23:20
couldn't wait for daylight. And as soon
23:22
as the sun began peeking over the
23:24
mountains, I packed up and continued
23:26
along the trail. There was no real place
23:29
for me to go except onward. and I
23:31
eventually cut the the hike short. Now,
23:34
I didn't finish the additional two weeks
23:36
I had planned because I couldn't get
23:37
past what had happened. I returned to
23:40
the Appalachian Trail since then, but
23:42
never to that same spot. I can't say I
23:45
would ever want to visit that section
23:48
again.
23:49
Now, for that hiker, the uh encounter
23:52
changed where they were willing to
23:54
return. Our next witness describes
23:56
something more difficult to avoid.
23:59
They first saw it near home while they
24:01
were outside with their dog. But years
24:03
later, they saw they say they saw a
24:06
similar figure again. This time, a
24:08
friend was beside them.
24:12
Now, the witness writes, "When I was in
24:15
the seventh grade in eastern Tennessee,
24:17
I was outside with my dog lying on the
24:19
dirt mound and looking at the clouds.
24:22
It was around 5:30 in the afternoon. My
24:25
dog started barking and pulling at the
24:27
leash. Now, we lived in the countryside,
24:29
the wood surrounding one half of the
24:31
house. I tried to hush my beagle, but
24:33
she just kept going. I stood up and
24:36
looked where she was looking. I was
24:39
about to say, "Look, there isn't
24:40
anything there." And as soon as that, a
24:42
large black creature with canine-like
24:44
body sprinted out of the woods.
24:47
It had thin fur that was so black it
24:49
seemed to have been pearles,
24:51
almost purple tinted. Its eyes were
24:54
yellow. Its legs looked bent backward
24:58
and its hands were long and slender. And
25:01
when it stood on its hind legs, it
25:02
appeared to be about 7 feet tall. When
25:05
it dropped all fours, its back hunched
25:07
aggressively,
25:09
but it still moved fluidly.
25:12
Every step seemed calculated, and as it
25:14
sprinted, it tilted its head toward me
25:17
as if it knew I was there, but couldn't
25:19
be bothered by my presence.
25:22
Then it jumped over the 4-foot cattle
25:24
fence without much difficulty. And by
25:26
the time I wrote this account, I was a
25:28
senior in high school. The previous
25:29
summer, I had another experience. I had
25:33
been working my father in his shed where
25:35
he worked on motors and other equipment.
25:38
I left my phone inside. A friend was
25:40
staying the night when I realized where
25:42
my phone was. We went back down to the
25:44
shed together.
25:46
It was about 10:00 and pitch black
25:48
outside. It was also about the same time
25:50
of year as my earlier encounter. We
25:53
stood at the front of the shed trying to
25:55
get the key into the lock when we heard
25:57
rustling in the brush. It was faint like
26:00
a breeze moving through the leaves. We
26:03
both heard it. We turned our flashlights
26:05
toward the brush. There was a pitch
26:08
black shape standing in the light.
26:11
I can't forget the yellow eyes. My
26:13
friend said, "You see that, right?" By
26:15
then, I was already running towards the
26:17
house.
26:19
Seeing it there and knowing it would
26:20
been watching us overwhelmed me. It was
26:23
so silent. As soon as I got inside, I
26:26
broke down. I had never reacted so
26:28
intensely to anything.
26:30
After that, whenever I went into the
26:32
woods, I felt as if something was
26:34
watching me. I know how it sounds. I
26:38
struggled to tell anyone. This was the
26:40
first time I had reached out to look for
26:42
people with similar experiences.
26:45
and a witness interpreted the later
26:47
sighting in light of the first. Whether
26:50
both encounters involved the same thing
26:52
is the question that the account cannot
26:54
settle. But the second experience
26:56
brought another person into the moment,
26:58
a friend who also reacted to what stood
27:01
in the flashlight beam.
27:04
Now we turn to five shorter reports.
27:07
These were supplied as summaries rather
27:09
than full firsthand narratives. They
27:12
contain few fewer details, but each
27:15
leaves a distinct unanswered question.
27:18
The first comes from Henderson County,
27:20
North Carolina. It also carries a sad
27:22
detail. A dog that followed something
27:24
into the woods and never came back.
27:29
Now, according to the supplied summary,
27:31
three people were walking through wooded
27:32
land in Henderson County approximately
27:34
10 years before the account was
27:36
recorded. Their dog was nearby off
27:39
leash. Without warning, a large black
27:41
creature crossed a partially cleared
27:43
area about 15 foot in front of them. The
27:46
witness described as roughly the size of
27:48
a black bear, but its posture and
27:51
proportion seemed very different. It
27:53
moved on two legs hunched forward with
27:55
unusually short forlims tucked close to
27:58
its body. The witness compared these
28:00
four limbs to a small arms of a
28:03
Tyrannosaurus Rex.
28:06
Most striking were its long rabbit-like
28:08
ears. It made no sound. It crossed the
28:11
clearing and disappeared into the trees.
28:14
The account says the witnesses found no
28:16
visible tracks or disturbances and their
28:19
dog ran after it, but the dog never
28:22
returned.
28:23
The report does not establish what
28:25
happened to the animal after it entered
28:27
the woods. For the witnesses, however,
28:30
that un unanswered loss became part of
28:33
the encounter. The person sharing the
28:36
account said they could still remember
28:38
exactly where they had been standing.
28:41
Now, long ears, short for limbs, and an
28:44
upright posture make for an unusual
28:45
description. The next account contains
28:48
no visual description at all, only a
28:50
dog's warning, a sound from the other
28:52
side of a fence.
28:55
At a rural mountain farm in western
28:57
North Carolina, two women were sitting
28:59
beside an outdoor pool at dusk. The
29:02
property was fenced.
29:04
Beyond that fence, it was growing dark.
29:08
The homeowner's dog suddenly ran to the
29:10
far corner of the enclosure began
29:11
growling.
29:13
Moments later, something outside the
29:15
fence responded. The women described a
29:18
deep guttural growl that was frightening
29:20
them that frightened them enough to
29:21
retreat immediately into the old
29:23
farmhouse. They said they kept feeling
29:26
watched throughout the night. Neither
29:28
woman saw what made the sound.
29:30
The report ends without an
29:32
identification. A growl can tell you
29:35
that something is close without
29:36
revealing what it is. In northern
29:39
Georgia, two campers initially thought
29:41
they had recognized the sounds outside
29:43
their camp. Then the movement seemed to
29:45
shift into the trees above them.
29:49
Two experienced outdoorsman's
29:51
outdoorsmen were camped overnight in the
29:53
remote mountains near Jack's River
29:55
Falls. Now, late in the evening, they
29:58
heard movement outside their campsite.
30:01
At first, they thought it was it sounded
30:03
like a bear. And as they listened,
30:05
however, the activity seemed to move
30:07
upward.
30:08
Whatever they heard seemed to be
30:10
traveling through the treetops, moving
30:12
from branch to branch around them.
30:15
The sound suggested something heavy.
30:17
Now, eventually, a large branch snapped
30:19
and fell behind the campers.
30:22
The men enlarged their fire, keeping
30:24
their pistols close, and remained awake
30:26
until dawn.
30:28
Then they left. The primary witness
30:31
later mentioned family stories of beings
30:33
resembled what some people had called
30:35
crawlers.
30:37
Pale humanoid figures described as
30:39
moving on all fours or climbing through
30:41
trees. That comparison came later in the
30:44
witness's interpretation.
30:46
The report does not describe a clear
30:48
sighting of such a figure, and the
30:50
campers reported only heavy movement
30:53
overhead in a falling branch. So far,
30:56
the accounts have centered on figures,
30:58
footsteps, and sounds. The next two
31:01
introduce lights. They also bring us
31:04
into reports with fewer details where
31:06
unanswered questions matter most.
31:10
Near the Lost Cave in Sweetwater,
31:13
Tennessee, a witness reports seeing
31:16
something they described as a UFO.
31:20
The summary says the sighting frightened
31:22
them significantly.
31:24
It does not provide a detailed
31:25
description of the object, the length of
31:27
the observation, or the exact date. The
31:30
witness later learned that a family
31:32
member had experienced repeated
31:33
unexplained lights at night. that family
31:37
member would awaken and call for their
31:39
mother. The account described the mother
31:42
as blind with some remaining perception
31:44
of brightness or shadow, but does not
31:46
clearly explain what she independently
31:49
observed.
31:51
These details leave us with a limited
31:53
report. We have a claimed UFO sighting
31:57
and a separate family account of
31:59
nocturnal lights. We do not have enough
32:02
information to identify either event or
32:05
establish a connection between them.
32:08
Now, in the next account, lights were
32:10
the only part of what the family found
32:11
unsettling.
32:13
They also received recurring calls after
32:16
dark. On one occasion, something
32:19
appeared to answer. Now, a resident in
32:22
eastern Kentucky near the Tennessee
32:23
border described recurring unexplained
32:26
howls at night. And according to the
32:28
witness, the sound resembled a man
32:30
screaming a long sustained ah.
32:34
On one occasion, a second call
32:35
responded. The witness thought the
32:38
answering sound seemed to come from
32:40
something small or younger. Now, the
32:43
family said they were familiar with
32:44
local wildlife vocalization. They could
32:46
not match these calls to an animal that
32:48
they recognized. The same witness also
32:51
reported bright lights moving through
32:53
the trees and sometimes appearing in the
32:55
yard.
32:57
Finally, the account mentions something
32:59
the witnesses described as possibly
33:01
portal or possible portal observed
33:04
approximately a year before the report.
33:08
Too few details remain to describe its
33:10
appearance or meaning. The witnesses
33:13
reported how lights and other unusual
33:15
observations.
33:17
Whether these experiences relate to one
33:19
another remains unknown.
33:21
A light in the trees leaves us asking
33:23
what someone saw. Now, our final account
33:27
raises another question. What does
33:29
someone remember, and how do they make
33:31
sense of the pieces that remain? It
33:34
comes from rural southwestern Virginia.
33:37
The experiencer described an ordinary
33:41
drive home in 2007, followed by
33:44
fragmented recollections of unfamiliar
33:46
beings and bright a bright interior.
33:50
Her next clear memory places her beside
33:53
her car.
33:56
Now, the experiencer identified as G
33:58
writes, "Hello. What I believe was my
34:01
abduction happened in 2007 in rural
34:04
southwestern Virginia. I don't remember
34:06
it like a normal memory, but I don't
34:09
believe it was a dream.
34:11
I was driving home from a friend's house
34:13
when it happened. I can vaguely remember
34:16
what they looked like and few other
34:19
things. When my memory becomes clear
34:22
again, I'm sitting outside the car on
34:24
the side of the road. I never told the
34:27
police. I was afraid I would be laughed
34:29
at or treated as if I were mentally
34:31
unwell.
34:32
I wanted to talk about to get it off my
34:34
chest. The beings I remember look
34:37
reptilian.
34:39
They didn't have usually large heads or
34:41
gray skin people people describe, but
34:44
they were bipedal.
34:46
I don't remember their craft clearly.
34:48
What I recall of the inside was very
34:51
smooth with a very bright area around us
34:54
or above me and above me. It is
34:57
frightening to think about, but I
34:58
remember a few things they did. I wore
35:02
some kind of mask. They pulled hair
35:04
samples. I remember a slight buzzing and
35:07
something positioned over the top of my
35:09
head.
35:10
There were several of them. When I woke
35:13
up, I was fully clothed beside my car on
35:15
the same road road where I had
35:17
remembered traveling. I had no scars or
35:20
puncher marks, so I didn't think they
35:23
had injected me. Their appearance was
35:25
the most frightening part. They looked
35:28
so foreign yet somehow familiar to
35:31
something I had seen before.
35:34
It is a feeling I can't express.
35:37
If an agency were willing to take me
35:40
seriously, I would describe the
35:41
experience to them. That is why I
35:43
contacted you after reading your book
35:45
and blog. Now, after receiving the
35:47
account, I contacted experiencer and
35:50
discuss what she remembered.
35:53
I left the more personal details out of
35:55
the published account. She described the
35:58
experience as remaining vivid and said
36:00
the additional details had come to mind
36:02
over time. Her account conveys how
36:06
troubling those recollections were.
36:10
It does not on its own establish what
36:12
happened during the gap in her memory.
36:17
Now, tonight's reports leave us with
36:19
very different types of uncertainty. In
36:22
Pennsylvania, a hiker heard heavy thumps
36:24
beside the tent, but never saw their
36:26
source. In Virginia, a couple describe
36:29
intruders whose identities and
36:30
intentions remain unknown, even after an
36:33
exhausting escape.
36:35
Other witnesses report pale figures, an
36:38
enormous haircovered beam, a yellow-eyed
36:41
creature, strange calls, and unexplained
36:44
lights. And in southwestern Virginia,
36:46
one woman described members she
36:48
understood as an abduction.
36:50
Now, these accounts vary in detail. Some
36:52
involve more than one witness. Some
36:55
record only a sound or a fleeting
36:57
glimpse. Others depend on recollections
36:59
shared years later.
37:02
We should listen with that in mind. We
37:05
can take a person's fear seriously while
37:07
still asking careful questions about
37:09
what had happened.
37:12
What was directly observed? What was
37:14
assumed afterwards? What details might
37:17
help distinguish an unfamiliar animal, a
37:20
human intruder, or a misunderstood event
37:22
from something that re remained
37:24
unexplained?
37:26
The witnesses reports did not all react
37:28
in the same way. One avoided a
37:30
particular section of the trail. Another
37:32
continued going into the woods alone.
37:35
Some spoke with friends immediately.
37:36
Others waited years before sharing their
37:38
story. For many of them, the encounter
37:41
lasted far less time than the questions
37:43
they left behind. Which account stood
37:46
out to you?
37:48
Was it the figure silently watching the
37:50
hikers at dawn, the creature crossing
37:51
the Pennsylvania road, the yellow eyes
37:54
beside the shed, or the woman who found
37:56
herself sitting beside the car?

in Appalachia or elsewhere, I encourage
38:24
you to document every detail you
38:26

38:28
insignificant at first may become
38:30
important when compared to other reports

38:57
and answers. Please type your questions

in all caps.
39:10
>> [clears throat]
39:10
>> Sir Wolf, hi Lon. Do those tunnels run
39:12
the full length of the trail? What do
39:14
you think lives in them? I'm thinking of
39:16
that Helier show.
39:19
Uh well, first of all, the Helier show,
39:24
I mean, I I saw a couple episodes of it.
39:26
You know, it was kind of a
39:29
dramaticization of uh things that occur.
39:33
I don't know the deal about the tunnels
39:35
running the full length of the trail. It
39:37
is unusual.
39:38
Uh
39:40
we have heard of other accounts over the
39:42
years of possible
39:45
uh subterrain creatures and such even on
39:48
the Appalachian Trail. I've heard
39:51
several of those accounts, especially in
39:52
Pennsylvania and Virginia. So, it's hard
39:55
to tell what it was or what is in there.
40:05
Sir Wolf, do you get reports of
40:06
reptile-like humanoids, which has also
40:09
been reported in Vietnam by GIS living
40:11
in caves? Oh, absolutely. And I've
40:13
talked about a few of those on the show
40:15
and in in my blog. There have been
40:18
several
40:19
um
40:21
there have been a lot of counts that
40:22
happened in Vietnam and you know of
40:24
course every every area of conflict even
40:27
Iraq and Afghanistan and many times
40:30
during the Korean War and World War II
40:33
we have heard reports of strange things
40:35
happening strange creatures but more so
40:38
in in later conflicts. So, um I don't
40:41
know, you know, we we do get uh we did
40:45
do get quite a variety of uh sightings.
40:47
Now, in Vietnam, we we did have some
40:50
pretty interesting reptilelike
40:53
uh bipeds that people had seen. And of
40:56
course, the firefight I had talked about
40:59
in in the one account where this whole
41:00
platoon was kind of pinned down by a
41:02
bunch of these creatures coming out of a
41:04
cave. Uh, so if you're interested in
41:08
that, you may want to search it on the
41:09
blog site and it'll come up.
41:16
Dynamic, do you know how many people go
41:18
missing on the Appalachian Trail every
41:20
year? I don't know how many, but there
41:22
have been a few. And of course, there
41:24
have been several people
41:28
that have died on that on that trail,
41:30
too. Uh, especially in Pennsylvania and
41:32
Virginia. There have been quite a few,
41:34
actually.
41:36
um in areas where I talked about
41:37
tonight. Um now, as far as missing
41:41
folks,
41:44
you know, offhand,
41:46
there have been some, but I think most
41:49
of them have been resolved,
41:52
but uh in the other instance where, you
41:55
know, people have lost their lives on
41:58
that trail, uh it seems that there have
42:01
been some intervention by something
42:02
unknown on some cases. So, um, yeah, the
42:06
Appalachian Trail is an interesting is
42:08
an interesting
42:10
[laughter]
42:10
has some interesting stories. I mean,
42:12
I've been on several parts of it over
42:14
the years and uh yeah, it's it can be
42:18
pretty frightening sometimes, especially
42:20
if you're going long distance and
42:22
camping in the shelters.
42:29
A nema, does the Appalachian Trail have
42:31
any haunted locations throughout the
42:33
hike?
42:34
Um, well, [clears throat] you talk about
42:37
Misho State Forest. Um, there are a few.
42:41
Um, not not far off the trail. As far as
42:44
being right on the trail, I I can't
42:46
think of any offhand, but there have
42:48
been some haunting reports over the
42:51
years. Not a whole lot. I mean, maybe
42:53
not as many as you think there is. I
42:56
think we get more accounts of unknown
42:59
beings and and UFOs and even winged
43:02
humanoids. We've had several of those
43:04
down in North Carolina as well. And of
43:07
course, I've talked about my family who
43:08
who had lived in western uh North
43:11
Carolina and on top of the ridge that
43:15
goes across there and where the trail
43:18
does lead.
43:19
Um, there have been several instance
43:21
including some reptilians, some Bigfoot,
43:25
and uh, a few other things that just
43:27
aren't identified.
43:33
Michelle, do you think the coyote went
43:35
silent due to fear or do you think they
43:38
were staying silent so they wouldn't be
43:40
hunted? I guess it could be either way.
43:42
Um,
43:45
now, you know, when I was younger, there
43:47
weren't any coyotes on the Appalachian.
43:49
I mean on in the Appalachian Mountains
43:51
or on the trails uh maybe further down
43:54
the on the other side on the western
43:56
side you could maybe run into a few
43:58
occasionally but as uh these populations
44:02
have moved east we're getting more and
44:05
more coyot sightings on the trail itself
44:07
and in the mountains there have been a
44:10
lot of strange things that have come up
44:11
come up in the past 20 years or so uh
44:15
more so than what I had ever heard when
44:17
I was younger. So, uh, it could have
44:19
been it could have been fear or in fear
44:21
of, you know, being hunted, but it's
44:24
hard to tell.
44:28
Labright, what do you think makes the
44:30
Appalachian Trail such a hot spot for
44:32
strange unexplained encounters? Well,
44:34
you got a lot of people that are hiking
44:36
that trail. And when you have a lot of
44:38
people who use utilize the trail itself,
44:41
and it's a long trail. It goes from
44:43
northern um uh Georgia up into New
44:46
Hampshire. It's uh you know, people are
44:49
going to see things. You know, I I've
44:51
had people literally call me on on their
44:54
cell phones or on their satellite phones
44:56
after having an encounter. Uh
45:00
so, um yeah, you get people anywhere you
45:02
get people, you hear a lot of different
45:04
things.
45:08
Uh, supersaurus rex lawn. Have pale
45:11
crawlers ever been reported getting
45:12
inside buildings or homes? Occasionally,
45:16
more so in buildings like um barns and
45:20
and outside buildings, not necessarily
45:23
in homes. Uh, I can't think of all of
45:26
hand any on homes, but I know some have
45:28
come up to porches and such. U, but um,
45:32
people do see them in their yards and in
45:34
other locations.
45:39
Paul Bright, what's the creepiest
45:41
Appalachian report you received that you
45:43
still think about when you're alone? Um,
45:46
well, there was a there was a murder
45:48
near the Duchanan area uh near
45:51
Harrisburg years ago.
45:54
Uh, a serial killer actually was
45:56
stalking people on the Appalachian
45:58
Trail. Uh down in George Washington
46:01
National Forest, there was um there was
46:05
a murder of what they believe apparently
46:08
could have been a Bigfoot.
46:10
Uh they they called it the brown man. I
46:12
think that's what they termed it. But um
46:16
yeah, I mean anytime you're out
46:19
in an area where you you're not really
46:21
familiar with and being dark as it is
46:25
and the cover and everything, uh you
46:27
know, it can be pretty creepy.
46:35
Michelle, do you think it's actually the
46:38
cause of the
46:42
app was that the Appalachians being so
46:44
incredibly active?
46:46
Uh,
46:48
I I guess it could be. I mean, if
46:51
they're stalking people, that's the
46:52
that's the place to be at. Uh, I you
46:56
[clears throat] know, a lot of times a
46:57
lot of the stories I have heard
47:01
involve humans, you know. I mean, there
47:03
have been reports of feral people in the
47:05
in the Appalachian Mountains for for
47:09
decades,
47:10
even hundreds of years. Um, do they
47:14
cause problems? Maybe. I mean, even just
47:18
the regular folks who live in the
47:19
mountains or mountain people, you know,
47:22
they they get curious sometimes and they
47:24
wander out in the trail and try to scare
47:26
the hell out of the people who are
47:27
hiking. I've heard that many times. I've
47:30
had rangers me that. And occasionally
47:34
occasionally they'll catch somebody
47:36
trying to pull some type of stunt like
47:37
that, but it's it's fairly rare.
47:44
Sir Wolf, what do the native people say
47:46
about it as a whole?
47:50
Uh well, I mean there there are several
47:55
Shauny legends about the the the
47:57
Appalachians and of course the Mingo
47:59
people and uh the Lenny Lape.
48:03
Uh even some of the early Susquanic and
48:06
of course the Cherokee, which you know I
48:09
am part Cherokee. Um you hear all kinds
48:12
of stories of wild creatures throughout
48:14
the mountains. So, um,
48:17
yeah, I mean, we we do hear a lot of
48:19
strange things. And in fact, I've talked
48:21
about my my [clears throat] great uncle
48:23
who, um, who lived in Mitchell County
48:26
and had a still up below,
48:30
uh, Ron Mountain on the, um, the North
48:33
Carolina side.
48:35
and he had his still busted twice from
48:40
what he said was a wild man. Well, more
48:43
or less a Bigfoot. So, and I've heard
48:45
stories like that before as well. So, um
48:48
people are aware of it.
48:54
Michelle, were there ever any reports of
48:56
vortexes there?
48:59
There [clears throat] have been claims
49:00
of um possible vortexes or
49:04
you know some type of uh portals and
49:06
such.
49:09
I hear more I hear more about in other
49:11
areas as far as portals go. Not
49:13
necessarily in the Appalachian, but I'm
49:15
quite sure there are there are many
49:19
tales. Now,
49:21
you know, when we talk about Moth Man
49:24
and the Appalachian and along the Ohio
49:26
Valley and up into um West Virginia and
49:30
such, you do hear several times about
49:33
these beings that have uh possibly being
49:36
ultraterrestrials and coming through
49:38
portals. I don't know if that's really
49:40
true, but you know, ever since I've
49:42
looked into this whole winged humanoid
49:45
phenomena, I think there's a very strong
49:47
possibility that's what we're dealing
49:48
with. So, of course, in Chicago, I
49:50
believe that's a lot of what's been
49:52
going on. So, as far as up in the
49:55
Appalachian and other mountain systems
49:57
in the eastern part of the United
49:59
States, I think it very well could
50:00
happen.
50:07
Michelle, would you ever investigate
50:08
there overnight asking for a friend?
50:10
[laughter]
50:11
Well, you want to come along?
50:14
Uh, maybe when I was younger. I don't
50:17
know if I would now.
50:19
Uh, I don't know. I don't know. I' I'd
50:21
definitely be armed. I mean, I I
50:23
wouldn't go on that trail or up in those
50:24
mountains in an area I I wouldn't be
50:27
familiar with unless I was armed.
50:35
That it folks.
50:40
Well, I appreciate uh thanks again for
50:42
coming, you know, joining me this
50:43
evening, and I'm grateful for your
50:45
continued interest and support of the
50:46
channel. Uh so until next time, please
50:49
remain observant, trust your instincts,
50:52
and remember that the world around us
50:55
may be far stranger than that we've been
50:57
led to believe. Now, I I will state this
51:00
tomorrow. you live in South Central
51:03
Pennsylvania or areas around that area
51:06
or down in northern Maryland, central
51:08
Maryland,
51:09
uh Rissa [clears throat] Miller will be
51:12
giving a presentation about Moth Man,
51:15
uh Point Pleasant, sightings in Chicago,
51:20
and many sightings have been reported in
51:23
South Central Pennsylvania.
51:25
So, um we're going to start about noon.
51:29
That's in Columbia, Pennsylvania at the
51:31
Cross I forget the name. Crosswords
51:35
Crossroads River Center or whatever it
51:38
is, but you ask somebody, they'll tell
51:41
you where it's at. But look, look for it
51:42
on the map. Uh Mara is in the uh is in
51:46
the chat tonight. You can ask her
51:48
because uh she's one of the volunteers
51:50
and she'll be there as well. Be a lot of
51:53
people there. So, um, it might be if you
51:55
have time, stop by and, uh, you can
51:58
listen to our presentation.
52:00
So, anyway, until next week, have a nice
52:03
evening, have a great weekend, and see
52:05
you next Friday. Good night.
