Good morning Ruby Roses
0:01
It's early, it's early doors, 8 a.m. Motoring out of the anchor, which last night was actually okay
0:06
I kind of, um, I still am a bit jumpy about the anchor
0:10
I'm not going to lie to you about that, that kind of like event in Thailand scared. Oh man, so just as of what we do is we always leave a plotter on
0:18
and with a track going, because actually the best way of knowing if you're dragging is actually not an anchor alarm
0:23
It is to see the track of your plotter. So you can see like it forms with time
0:28
You can see a crescent of swing. which is a really great name for a band
0:32
actually the crescents of swing anyway so yeah so you can see a crescent of swing
0:37
and if you stop swinging and start dragging you then see a line coming out of your crescent of swing
0:42
which is good but the problem is that when the wind changes direction
0:47
that kind of crescent increases and the other point is that when you get gusts of wind the anchor chain
0:55
kind of pulls straight so it pushes back a little bit so it was a little bit jumpy last night but
0:58
Honestly, yeah, the jumpiness is actually got nothing. It's just to do with me being slightly paranoid
1:05
Paranoid, just paranoid, and probably rightly so. Anyway, so this morning it is 8 o'clock
1:10
We have got a big day ahead of us. I know that basically you need to be tucked in by about 2 o'clock in the afternoon
1:16
Otherwise, if you've got the winds, the winds will pick up and we are sailing straight into it
1:20
Good feeling to be on the move again. As lovely as this anchorage was, and it really was truly lovely
1:26
Are you putting it into overdrive? Right inève. Why not? I'm going to reverse
1:34
I'm not. Love that overdrive function on our glory props
1:45
So good. I'm Teresa. This is Nick. And this is Ruby Rose 2, our floating home

2:08
There you go This is our breakfast every day not because we're on some kind of cruel health kick just because we like smoothies and they're relatively
2:17
It's easy It's actually cold and tasty and filling and easy nutritious quick to make
2:23
So this is a banana smoothie So all of our lines have been drying on the line like a row of octopuses drying in the sun so now it's
2:34
time to bring them all in Nick washed them and condition them yesterday using our
2:40
bin our line bins which is genius he just plugged the hole the draining hole in
2:45
an earplug and just use it as like a big bucket so we've washed our line so they're
2:51
no longer stiff and salty because they became very stiff and salty and dirty
2:55
from the shipping from the crossing so now Now we've got lovely soft lines that smell like fabric's often
3:28
that's how he cut it but what actually happens is it just pops over this way oh we're getting there all right okay
3:58
about too wigs ago. Because did you have yourself? Yeah. Oh that explains everything I been thinking whoever cut nicked hair I don know if he did a great job it very uneven But now it almost represents
4:16
And we are sailing. We're actually got a bit of a wind on the beam, so I'm going to enjoy that while we can
4:29
because as I've said a few times in the last episode or two
4:34
it's going to be a lot of upwind sailing in our near future and then hopefully later in the season there won't be any
4:40
In fact, I'm hoping there'll be some downwind sailing after the upwind sailing
4:44
Anyway, point being right now we've got a beautiful beam reach going on
4:52
The only issue which we can easily solve is that one of the batons fell out of our jib
4:57
Now, I filmed a couple of episodes ago, I think, us hoising the jub again after it's kind of, we had to take it down to ship the boat
5:09
And we put it up after much kind of swearing and sweating, we got it up and we realised we hadn't put the buttons in
5:15
So we're like, brilliant. At that point the battery in the camera died, so we turned off the camera and we let it down again, put the buttons in, and off we went
5:24
So as we were putting the buttons in, we were kind of saying because you have to put
5:29
I don't know what you call it, there's like you put them in a sleeve and then at the bottom of the sleeve
5:34
there's like a little loop with Velcro on it which you use to kind of keep the button in place
5:39
And yeah, it didn't look particularly secure, I must say. So I'm not surprised that the button came out but anyway, we're going to have to do this again, clearly
5:48
But for now the button just landed on the deck. It's in the cockpit waiting to be put back in at some point, not
5:54
anytime soon we'll just leave it for the moment and that's it so anyway we're sailing and
6:01
believe it or not that's actually Greece that island behind me and Turkey is there so
6:09
they really are that close to each other it's crazy I think the Greeks got all the islands
6:14
and the Turks kept the mainland all the islands along this coast belong to Greece
6:20
so we get a little view of Greece as we20s past but
6:24
We're still not cleared into Greece. We're very much still in Turkey
6:29
as far as us and the boat are concerned. So we can't go to Greece without obviously clearing out of Turkey
6:36
and clearing into Greece because despite the fact that they're literally half a mile apart
6:41
and at some points along the coast, I think they're even less than that. They're like literally right next to each other
6:46
You still have to clear immigration and customs. Jibs, like, a bit
6:54
So Turkish delicacies? Turkish cookambos
7:04
But then the kick-upers? I can say the pretty fresh produce here is so delicious
7:54
I've got a fairly limitless supply of fresh water. And we have so much solar and we're running the engines
8:00
we have almost a limitless supply of electricity. Which means that with three hours to go in a calm sea
8:06
I can just clean the fireboat with a jet wash, which I think is freaking amazing So I will now be Power Watch It happened There actually a question on our Patreon
8:24
The sail barrier on the 13th and 17th and what stops the sail from spilling out the back end
8:32
And actually there are two loops and we had a line on there and the line had a half hitch to the what's it got
8:38
your top inlet and it's gone. It's gone! So for those of you need to make another one. So for those of you
8:42
need to sailing, cutting a line. Tate. Skizzers. Crembrule torch. You put the tape around to stop the line from praying immediately. This is for the sailback
9:01
Basically I've put two turns and a half pick on this. Alright, it's just going one o'clock and I think the afternoon winds are starting to pick up a little bit
9:12
Seems to be the cat a little nice and calm in the morning and then in the afternoon things start to get a little bit brisker
9:20
So we're going to crack on. There is an anchorage literally right over here that I was actually really hoping to go to
9:27
right behind me there because it's got these ancient Greek ruins. There's a big ancient Greek ruins. There's a big ancient
9:34
Greek amphitheater and some other ruins there. And I was like, that's cool
9:38
It's like literally right next to the Anchorage. So I was excited about doing that, but I think at the end of the day
9:43
we should crap on while the conditions allow because I think we're at some point going to get
9:51
kind of come up against some stronger headwinds and it's going to be a little bit more challenging
9:56
So I think making as much northward progress as we can while the conditions allow is a good thing
10:02
We'll be coming back this way anyway. this way anyway it's all good put a reef in I know good
10:14
great after all morning motoring in like milky calm conditions it is now 20
10:22
knots we've got white caps everywhere it is beautiful but it was like that
10:29
one minute we were just motoring along and the next minute I could see white
10:33
caps on the horizon and then two minutes later the wind hit that's crazy might even
10:41
need to put a reef in now the wind speed stops now that's going down a bit that's all right
11:03
I'm going to help you're going to be a few minutes
11:21
sailing for you exactly I can see some other boats out here enjoying the conditions
11:33
Well, this is exactly what I remember from family holidays in the Greek islands
11:47
We'd go on a boat trip early morning, we'd go out and it'd be like, yeah, this is nice
11:52
and then we'd have to come back to a clock to a clock in the afternoon and we'd get that thing
11:57
And this is exactly what happens, the wind picks up in the afternoon. And because we're sailing a sailing boat, sog
12:07
we have 24 knots over the deck, which is ready to be a little bit lighter. We had 301 before banging out some tunes
12:12
We have an anchor about five, six miles away. We hopefully get anchored without too much fanagans I think we decided from here on in because I know after all the years of being here that this is the afternoon weather What we will do is we going to set an alarm get up at first light get off to four
12:32
about half past five and then we can be tied up by about one when this will pick up
12:37
That's the plan. We just need to get up to fog up and we knew it would be a slog and we knew we would get hammered by the wind in the afternoon
12:44
Tonight, Zangrooge is... Our phoning interview, we're only about three or four miles away now
12:51
And this is gonna be a very good test for our microphone
12:55
which we'll be replacing as soon as I possibly can. Still a beautiful day. It's very windy, but it is a beautiful day
13:02
Yeah, so back that up by lunch on it, it's a windwood. Yeah
13:06
Down wind, you're like get out at 11 a.m. and bloody get the spinner crop
13:10
Oh, okay, we're gonna show you the anchorage. It's very breezy out there
13:15
It's blowing. 23 knots at the moment. Next, just doing the windows. Ooh
13:22
Got some very keen wind surfers out and about and enjoying the conditions
13:29
Our anchor dug in, held first time. Got that very satisfying kind of swing
13:36
It's very flat in here, very comfortable. I wouldn't even know that it was lying outside, so, yep, I'm happy
13:42
I am just finishing off my laundry because the washing machine doesn't seem to like being on while we're underway errors a lot and I think it's just the
13:51
like movement of the water in the washing machine or in the pipes or something doesn't like it
13:57
there's some kind of issue so soon enough we will be settling down for an evening
14:16
Now one thing I would say, probably the greatest thing about YouTube is that people actually know the boat and therefore know us
14:26
And so when we get into an anchorage, we possibly get invited a little bit more, but not necessarily anymore, to go and have drinks on people's boats and we wouldn't have a YouTube channel
14:36
So honestly, we walked up on an anchorage day and we got invited on board like a boat just for drinks
14:42
And we had a really lovely evening and it's just so nice just to meet another couple of
14:46
cruisers and to exchange information to exchange ideas to exchange weather patterns to
14:51
exchange where to anchor to exchange marinas where to buy rope so Craig and
14:56
Donna thank you for very very very lovely evening it's just been a real pleasure and actually it kind of reminds me of what I miss about cruising and
15:04
what I what I really missed about the Caribbean cruising where every night and
15:08
this is way before you shoot we got a group of friends and you arrange to go
15:12
onto a boat and our party and yeah really nice evening but I need to cook your dinner
15:16
because otherwise you can get all twitch-eyed on me. Trained so well
15:22
Okay guys, well, I think that this is where we're going to finish up this week's episode
15:27
I hope that you've enjoyed coming sailing with us today. We had a bit of everything
15:30
We had like literally motoring along because there wasn't enough winter sail
15:34
and then we were motoring along because there was too much winter sail and we had everything in between
15:38
Next week's episode, we are continuing our journey north towards Fokker which is where we are getting in touch
15:45
with the Sea Wind team and we will be just finishing off any warranty issues that we still have outstanding
15:51
We've got a few items on the spreadsheet. It's just doing a quick little tidy and clean in the background
