Getting Started In The Concrete Business How I Got Started!

As I'm driving here, I just wanted to share with you guys a little bit about how I got started in the concrete business

I was about a sophomore in high school and I had a girlfriend and it was through my girlfriend's

father that I got introduced to concrete. I started working for him summers, school vacations, all the way through my senior year

until I graduated from high school. And then from high school I went on to college and my first year of college I continued working

for him that summer. Any vacations, any days off I had I worked

And then my second year I went back to college and decided that that really wasn't for me

I really didn't want to do what I was going to college for

So I left college and I started working for the same guy again

And it was that year that I figured out that I wanted to be on my own at some point

But it took another guy that I knew that was in the concrete business, he did Foundation

Walls, and he was a good friend of mine and he continued to push me to go into business

for myself. He kept telling me I should, I should. So finally I made the decision to start my own business

I was around 19, 20 years old when I did that. That's how I got introduced to the concrete world

That's how I started my own business. Now when I did start my own business, I didn't know how to run a business, that's for sure

I knew how to do the work. I knew how to get up in the morning, I knew how to water concrete and go pour and finish

a concrete floor. But I didn't know how to run a business or any of that stuff

So that was all a learn as you go experience for me

I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I learned a lot

Fixed all those mistakes and then here I am 35, 40 years later still in the business

run a successful concrete business. That's basically how I got started though

I was really young, I got taught what I feel was the right way, get up early in the morning

work hard, learn your skill, perfect your craft and do the best job you possibly can

every single day. And then eventually I had someone come along that pushed me into making me believe that

I could run my own business. That's what I'm trying to do to hopefully help you guys

For those of you out there that are thinking about starting your own business, can I, are

you afraid? I was, I'm not going to lie to you, I was afraid to start my own business

It was comfortable working for somebody else that's for sure, but I'm here to help you

guys any way I can. If you want to start your own business, I can mentor you, I can coach you

Anyway, that's how I got started in my own business. I was really young and I just moved on from there

Learned it as I go
