hi this is Anita from the Global Trade
0:09
Gal today I want to talk a little bit
0:12
about
0:13
collaboration i kind of feel like we
0:15
live in a world where collaboration is
0:18
not quite the thing anymore sometimes I
0:21
feel like people they sort of pick sides
0:23
they sort of say "I'm on this team or
0:25
I'm on that team and I'm not going to
0:27
work with the other team." But in
0:29
business and especially in the type of
0:31
industry that I'm in which is basically
0:34
global trade collaboration is extremely
0:37
important in fact collaboration really
0:41
can make a difference between whether a
0:43
company's successful or not i want to go
0:45
through 10 reasons why collaboration is
0:48
essential and I want to you know talk
0:50
about each of these and why these are
0:52
all important reasons first of all is
0:56
that collaboration fosters innovation
0:59
and creativity i always you know say
1:01
this a lot to my staff or to my team i
1:03
say you know we we need to collaborate
1:06
together because it's through
1:07
collaboration that we can foster the
1:09
creativity we can foster innovation we
1:11
can develop products and you know
1:14
sometimes one member of the team might
1:15
do this another member might do this but
1:17
that's okay we're all working together
1:21
you know tech giants such as Google and
1:23
Apple they foster collaboration they
1:25
understand that collaboration cultures
1:28
within their company are important and
1:30
they also encourage crossf functional
1:31
teams which um in collaboration which is
1:35
also an essential part of one of the
1:36
reasons why they've been able to have so
1:38
many breakthroughs in products and in
1:41
solutions i believe that collaboration
1:43
too also can enhance problem solving and
1:46
decision making you know you're only one
1:48
person if that's the only only thing
1:51
that you want to do it's just you're
1:52
just one single person and you know I
1:55
have to say today you can actually be
1:57
kind of two people if you sort of use AI
1:59
which I do quite a bit and ask AI some
2:01
questions so you know maybe AI can help
2:03
give you some answers for some things
2:06
but really for complex business
2:08
challenges you know there can be many
2:10
different solutions that if you
2:12
collaborate it can bring together these
2:14
diverse problems um different approaches
2:17
you can see different people have
2:18
different ideas and then you can look at
2:21
all these ideas together and all these
2:22
challenges together and then you can
2:24
suggest you know solutions and and you
2:28
know get the best solution out there an
2:30
example of this was the 2008 financial
2:33
crisis you know General Motors really
2:36
use
2:37
collaboration to be able to navigate
2:40
many of the economic challenges by
2:42
aligning employee efforts you know the
2:45
stakeholder strategies and shareholders
2:48
interests collaboration can also help
2:51
increase efficiency and productivity
2:53
that when teams collaborate together
2:55
they it's been shown that they can be a
2:57
more of an efficient team and that they
3:00
you know this person will know what the
3:02
other person's doing and it can actually
3:03
help that there won't be redundancy
3:06
people aren't doing the same thing or
3:07
you get the same thing done several
3:09
times that really this whole thing of of
3:11
collaborating communicating together can
3:14
make a difference it can um help improve
3:17
communication and transparency and you
3:20
know this is another one too that when
3:21
one member of the team knows what
3:23
another member of the team is doing this
3:25
can really be able to help improve the
3:28
communication and the overall
3:29
transparency of the team and I think you
3:31
know there again it also saves time
3:34
because you know as I mentioned before
3:36
it means that somebody's not repeating
3:37
what somebody else is doing it can build
3:40
trust and strengthen relationships i
3:42
think there's probably nothing worse
3:43
than if you think that somebody doesn't
3:45
trust you so they're going to go behind
3:47
you and try to redo what you've done so
3:50
you know organizations that involve you
3:53
employees the stakeholders shareholders
3:55
and they're all in collaboration in the
3:58
decision-making can help build the trust
4:00
and strengthen
4:02
relationships another one is it can
4:04
enhance employee engagement and
4:06
satisfaction i believe that people again
4:09
this goes back to the other we talk
4:10
about trust and they want to be part of
4:12
a team they want to be part of something
4:13
which has a bigger vision than
4:15
themselves and if you collaborate
4:17
together and you bring people in on that
4:19
vision no matter who that person is it
4:21
can help with the overall efficiency of
4:23
the team itself it can increase
4:26
adaptability and resilience why because
4:28
you've got more people working together
4:30
to solve a problem you in the
4:32
everchanging business environment you've
4:34
got more people thinking about a
4:36
solution for the problem and you're able
4:38
to respond better to some of the market
4:40
changes by you know being able to look
4:43
at some of the diverse
4:44
perspectives and identify risks and
4:47
opportunities it can help drive customer
4:49
centric solutions you know
4:51
collaborations with things like external
4:54
um stakeholders including customers
4:56
ensure that their products and services
4:59
are customer centric then in other words
5:01
you're giving them what they want and so
5:03
then they'll want to be able to come
5:05
back again you know and a great example
5:07
of this one is is Legos and I I'm a
5:09
great fan of Legos i I love Legos i
5:12
don't personally play with them but I
5:13
have many you know nephews who have but
5:17
Lego co um co-creates with cat customers
5:19
through it Lego ideas platform and this
5:22
ensures that new products resonate with
5:24
customers expectations so they're kind
5:26
of working together with their customers
5:28
to sort of innovate and create and we do
5:32
that a lot in my my own business where
5:34
we work with our customers and we sort
5:35
of innovate create or we say hey what
5:38
are you looking for oh let us look at
5:40
this see what we can create on this and
5:42
I think that that's all part of you know
5:44
part of this sort of collaborating
5:46
together to be able to get the best
5:48
solution possible or the best product
5:50
possible collaboration it promotes
5:53
continuous learning and growth that you
5:55
know people that are in um an
5:58
environment of collaboration or they
5:59
feel safe about the collaboration it's
6:02
been shown that they want to grow they
6:04
want to learn they want to improve they
6:07
want to become better instead of them
6:08
being stifled or feeling like they're
6:10
being pushed down that you know
6:12
collaboration can help improve sort of
6:14
this continuous sort of learning and
6:17
growing and
6:18
improving collaboration drives
6:21
sustainable growth and competitive
6:23
advantages so you know not only you know
6:25
does somebody grow but you also begin to
6:27
have this competitive advantage through
6:31
collaboration i really love this about
6:33
collaboration when we have our team
6:35
meetings a lot of times we talk about
6:37
why collaboration is so important and
6:40
why collaboration is such an important
6:42
essential part of what we do we in our
6:45
company have people in three locations
6:48
and sometimes if I'm traveling that
6:50
could be four locations so you know as
6:53
part of that we really need to learn to
6:55
collaborate together one of the things
6:57
that we do which has really helped us a
6:59
lot is we use a couple programs for this
7:02
and I'll talk a little bit about these
7:03
programs um you know in case you're
7:06
interested one that we use a lot is
7:07
Trello i really like Trello because we
7:11
are a visual company we deal with
7:13
product uh we use Trello a lot to be
7:15
able to look at our products our
7:17
development and other things this helps
7:19
us to be able to collaborate in any one
7:21
of our locations people go on and they
7:24
can look at their part of Trello i
7:27
really am a great fan of Trello and I
7:30
believe been a really great asset for
7:31
our
7:33
company another one that we use quite a
7:35
bit too is Microsoft Teams and again I
7:38
like Microsoft Teams because we're able
7:41
to you know communicate to each other in
7:43
fact we don't use email very often
7:45
anymore uh we use email for a few things
7:48
but almost all of our uh you could say
7:50
crossoff communication now is coming
7:53
through either Trello or the Microsoft
7:56
Teams platform and you know I think it
8:00
just goes to show that you know that if
8:02
you can find something that works for
8:04
you that helps you collaborate work
8:05
together you know and helps to be able
8:07
to one person to see what the other
8:09
person's doing and to understand that it
8:11
really does help with the overall
8:14
collaboration of the company and of the
8:16
team itself i think that's one of the
8:19
the you know the great things in being
8:21
able to you know to to have this um you
8:25
know this collaboration is is that you
8:27
know really it allows you to be able to
8:30
you know work together as a team so you
8:33
know in a society where we are becoming
8:36
more where um you know one person may
8:38
feel like they don't want to work with
8:40
another person or they may feel like
8:42
they're part of this team and not the
8:43
other team i really believe that if you
8:47
can collaborate throughout your
8:48
organization not just with your
8:50
employees but also with your
8:52
stakeholders
8:54
um shareholders and others that it can
8:57
really help with your
8:59
overall efficiency in your company and
9:03
also the satisfaction that people will
9:05
feel in the company itself i believe
9:07
that collaboration is essential i've
9:09
written a blog on this which is why
9:11
collaboration is essential empowering
9:13
success through unity and we'll put a
9:16
link below in the description for that
9:17
blog in case you'd like to be able to
9:19
see more or be able to learn more from
9:21
that blog itself but we hope that you
9:23
will you know do as we do take this
9:25
challenge to become more collaborative
9:27
in a world where maybe it's becoming
9:30
more divisive that we instead look to
9:32
say how can we make a be a bridge how
9:35
can we help and see the other point of
9:38
view and how can we be collaborative
9:41
because we understand that collaboration
9:44
can help empower success as we become
9:47
more unified this is Anita from the
