I finally can play this piece, though only 60% correct. I wish I had more time practicing it. Last semester, I discovered this piece in Prof. Jeryl’s class while exploring matriarchal influences in musical expression, where emotions, personal history, and special symbolism are highly respected. Through the process, I liked Borodin even more — someone born from an illegitimate noble family, loving empirical science, while never afraid of expressing his deep emotions, and influenced by strong female characters. The original title of the entire Nocturne album was changed to Petite Suite, while the original program notes were not well known. However, I discovered that this final piece portrays a girl falling in love while falling asleep, and I found it to be very beautiful. I never knew Borodin was such an emo with peaceful Hector Berlioz vibe! I’m glad this piece became an energy drink for our Whimsical universe. I wish I could practice more.
