If you have never been to the WW1 battlefields you must check out the Cloth Hall in Ypres, Belgium! This impressive medieval commercial building was the center of the thriving cloth industry in the Middle Ages, serving as a marketplace and warehouse for Flemish traders. Sadly, it fell into ruins during World War I due to artillery fire. However, between 1933 and 1967, architects J. Coomans and P. A. Pauwels led a meticulous reconstruction effort to restore the hall to its former glory. The Cloth Hall stands at an impressive 125 meters in breadth, and its 70-meter belfry tower is a true testament to the wealth and importance of Ypres as a trade city. Nowadays, the In Flanders Fields Museum is housed in the Cloth Hall, and it's even recognized by UNESCO as part of the Belfries of Belgium and France site, highlighting its unique architecture and civic influence. #ww1 #ypres #ieper #ww1history #clothhall #museum #ww1museum #nighttimevideo
