This video is not about pricing, it's not about channels, it's about SlingTV's features
0:05
and how they compare to YouTube TV. I'm using a Roku Ultra for this demonstration
0:11
Let's start with the LiveGuide. Now with SlingTV you can favorite and record programs directly from the LiveGuide section
0:17
To record, I press the star key on my Roku remote and to Favorite Channels, select the heart
0:25
Then highlight the channel logo on the left side of the screen and again press the star key
0:30
YouTube TV lets you favorite channels too, but at the time of this recording you can
0:34
only customize the YouTube TV LiveGuide from a computer or the mobile app
0:40
Aside from favorites, both services have other ways to filter the LiveGuide
0:44
One thing I noticed from SlingTV's A-Z view is that it includes all of the Sling free
0:50
stream channels, not just traditional cable TV networks. Why is that a problem
0:55
Well there are hundreds of free stream channels, so this really clutters the A-Z guide
1:00
Fortunately you can use that favorites view that I just showed you, but I wish that free
1:04
stream was left out of A-Z. After all, there's a separate free stream filter for those channels
1:10
I'll move on. When you're watching live TV with Sling and you want to channel surf, you've got two good options
1:16
First, arrow down on your remote and then you'll see a mini guide of recent and old channels
1:22
If you also arrow up on your remote, then you'll see the main LiveGuide and the show
1:26
that you're currently watching will play in the right corner. I like this feature a lot
1:30
It makes it easy to quickly return to the show that you were previously watching
1:35
Take a look at YouTube TV. You can arrow down on your remote while watching live TV, then you'll see a mini guide or you
1:41
can click back on your remote to return to the LiveGuide. In this case, the show that you're watching will continue to play, but only in the background
1:50
Sling TV and YouTube TV both include cloud DVR storage with their plans
1:55
That's really where the similarities stop. At recording time, Sling TV offers 50 hours of DVR storage with any paid plan and 200
2:04
hours for an extra $5 a month. With YouTube TV, unlimited cloud DVR storage is included with the base plan
2:12
And because of this, YouTube TV will record all episodes in a series by default
2:17
So that means new episodes and reruns. You cannot record or delete single episodes with YouTube TV
2:24
You can with Sling TV though. When you set a recording for a series, you'll have options to record all episodes, new episodes
2:31
or a single episode. Extending recordings is important, especially for sporting events
2:37
YouTube TV automatically extends recordings while Sling TV doesn't. It only records a two minute buffer for most programs
2:45
Also for sporting events, the service recommends that you record the next program in the guide
2:50
Sling TV separates the DVR and on-demand sections, which some people like, others really don't
