know that itinerary actually I've looked at that it's a really nice itinerary one I would really like to do they do also

this year which is a pity because it's a really nice one anyway um fine business very nice what would be our best options

for flight east or west best to Oakland so Karen I don't know where you're flying from uh to be honest so if you're

certainly west coast the easiest ways to go from LA um there's things like a New Zealand I think still fly that route uh

obviously if I'm when I'm going from the UK and from Europe I would tend to go the way that goes through Asia that way

uh round but certainly from the US often it's better to go via LA and onwards is

events things behind the scenes never go to plan you know often the logistics the cruise line would have told you to bring

a certain type of adapter when you get on board it's going to be a different type of adapter and you haven't got that type and then they haven't set up you

running a cruise I didn't really get to see any of the ports uh so it's going to be great just going uh as a participant

and seeing because I've never been on a group cruise as a participant so actually I'm hoping that by going as a

participant I'll also get a sense of as a participant things that I can fine-tune and tweak for my Panama group

go less crowd so basically um you're right you know with Alaska my favorite

route I'll tell you my favorite route first because it does sort of minimize sea days does maximize the amount of

time that you spend in Alaska is to do one of the one-way trips so you can do it from well they say Anchorage but in

reality there's two ports that are about an hour or so away from Anchorage one of which is Seward spelled S E A W R and um

uh why have I forgotten the name of that one because I've been there anyway remember it but there's two ports that

the the cruisers go out of and then you go down to Vancouver or of course you can do the other way around i like going

from from Seward uh way downwards because you get all the hassle of getting to Anchorage out of the way at

the beginning and there's a very nice train ride if you if your cruise doesn't include the the transfer there's some

very nice train rides that you can do down to join the ship um so but there's you do have a minimizing amount of sea

days going that way they tend to be sort of 10-day trips if you're going to Vancouver you'll normally have a C day

either end if you go out of Seattle you'll have at least one C day you'll probably call into Vancouver uh into

Victoria and so on so that would be my thing now in terms of smaller ships quite a few that do that so you Viking

which is what I've done before that's a 930 passenger ship ocean used to do it

um with Riviera but I think they sorry with um uh Riata but I think they've

switched that now to Riviera because they're sort of heading off those smaller ships to do other bits and pieces of things um so it's a slightly

bigger ship it's 1,200 passenger ship now you could if you want to Chris go uh

and do more of an expedition type thing so Hudig Gurin for example do it but you're not going to call on the sort of

the traditional Juno uh kind of uh Skagway uh places because they literally

go more off pie but you've also got Seabour does it as well i think they

quest they use it there um so those would be the ones to focus um on but you know you're right once you head even

into the you know Holl America do it but even now you've got Virgin but I would focus on those sort of small ship luxury

ships now I think I'm right in saying that Azamara has announced they're going back to Alaska and I think Winstar as

well so I would take a look at those because if you know on on uh Azamara you're talking 700 passengers bear in

mind you're going to have tiny little bathrooms uh on all but the suites uh but Windstar is a good one to look at i

can't remember if it's if it's Star Pride or which one they're using up there but that's what that's what I

that's what I would uh that's what I would suggest um Steve I cannot answer this

question but I'm sure other people can because I am not a fan of Indian food so I basically don't go to Indian

restaurants uh I'm not a big fan so um I don't know uh where is a good place to

go the only place that I would suggest you look at is there is a chain of

Southampton we'll be on Region Grande and have two nights at the end of our cruise so one of the things that people

like to do is to go up to Stonehenge uh that's often the cruise lines will include that now I guess you're

disembarking so they may not have that but Stonehenge is really well worth a visit um sometimes you'll also have

excursions to off to Ssbury and so on so those really are some of the best things

to do now personally although it may be a little bit counterintuitive is quite near to Southampton you can get an Uber

there or you can actually book tours is Portsmith particularly if you want looking for something maritime based

because you got the Royal uh naval dockyards there which have things like um some of Nelson's ships there they

have Henry Dead's uh uh Mary Rose ship there which is fascinating which was dug

out of the mud and because it had been sunk in the mud as a battleship it is incredibly well preserved uh so that's

really fascinating also you've got the Spica Tower there which has incredible afternoon tea so so Portsouth is a

really interesting place because it's basically the the center of the Navy but that that's those are the things that I

would sort of uh focus on rangar asking the question let's

was your first so I have done 121 cruises the shortest being like sort of

a one night uh kind of uh shakedown cruise the longest being seven weeks so I've done 121 cruises uh so my next one

cruise only back in 2004 so um so I was not young at all when I

um let's have actually the other thing I I thought of another Southampton option

which is um if you get the fairies you get like the red funnel fairies for example and you go to the aisle of white

where you've got Osborne House particularly which is really interesting which is where Queen Victoria spent a lot of her time after her husband passed

away and actually died in Osborne House that's really fascinating and then you've got things like the needles which is sort of a very interesting beach and

stuff so that's also quite fun uh Tom Tom is going to be on Crystal in

October fantastic your reason to visit Tangier on explore any recommendations so when I went to Tangier um I actually

didn't go on an excursion the reason is because in October into November but I'm doing a uh month-long trip from

Barcelona down to Cape Town uh which goes into Tangier so and I've got some excursions booked on that because with

Regent so they did have some really interesting excursions uh there to some

why my mind's gone black obviously getting too old now my mind's going blank but they had some really interesting to some mosques or you could

westbound means you're going from Southampton to New York in Queens Grillil have the choice of port side midft or starboard mid forward are these

equal is a preferred choice so Mike in reality my perspective is it doesn't really matter uh because the the reason

that most people worry about it is uh when you're sailing into New York uh

when you're sailing in you you if you were sailing into Manhattan the advantage of being on the port side is

you used to sail up past the Statue of Liberty so it saved you having you could just get out on your balcony and look at

it now in reality now because Quimo 2 docks in Brooklyn it sort of heads up and then takes a takes a right so you

don't actually sailed right past i mean it's still there but it's kind of much more in the distance like when I

right past it and it was fantastic because men didn't have to get out on up on deck uh but it's still going to be

America which tends to be based out of San Diego then you've got Princess uh I

think you've got some Celebrity based now and I think even some Royal Caribbean sort of more based out of Long

Beach and so on so those you're relatively limited now you've got coming up next year you've also got Virgin

Voyages so if you're looking for an 18 plus so one of the things I was talking about where I've got gaps is um

Brilliant Lady when it's heading back from Alaska is going to be based out of Long Beach doing some Mexican Riviera

sailings which are sort of end of September October into October next year which I'm quite keen to try because I

may be west coast in that time of next year for a for a period of time so and

jumping on one of those is quite good now you're right you can do some sort of inverted commas repositioning but a lot

of ships will sail uh either on their way up to Alaska they'll go from Miami

or you know um Port Everglades or or you know Fort Lau or Port Canaveral and

they'll head through the through the um Panama Canal head up to sort of San

Francisco Long Beach on their way up so you there's a lot of lines that would do it but the ones that sort of going to

give you the most choice is take a look at the Hall America ships princess ships celebrity ships those are the ones that are sort of based on the West Coast it's

going to give you the most options and more likely to include more ports so that they tend to go to the same what's

have to admit I have only done one river cruise in Asia but I do think it is phenomenal which is the Meong the Meong

is an incredible incredible experience now I did it just as we were heading into CO actually sort of January into

February 2020 and I did it on across Europe uh on Indochin which is small

ship i think it was maximum 60 passengers 40 on there was only three English speakers including me on that

but um the the experience of the Mikong is fascinating because you obviously go

through Vietnam you go through Cambodia you get to see um Ho Chi Min City you get to see uh at the end you can do an

often they will include going to Ankor Ankor Watt uh which is just phenomenal

um non pen it's just it's amazing you get a great mixture of uh you know um

you know very rural small communities it's just magnificent um so that is the

best i would like to do the Yangzey River in China for example is is one that I would like to do but I would almost like to go back and do the Mikong

again and there's quite a few cruise lines so cross Europe I did it amma do it i think Biking do it um so that that

for me is the must do one if there's kind of a a must you know a must do one

um Dave asked me um have I been on Iona uh to Norwegian Fjords no I have not

been on Iona pino uh is is not high on my my my list iona obviously a big ship

uh very good for families looks like you've got kids there so I think if you're taking your kids there will have a great time uh you know because you if

you're going at school holidays um uh you know they have loads of kids good

fairs uh lots of stuff going on a kids program i haven't done that but the ports that they go to are you know the

ones fairly standard kind of ports so loads of things to do uh beautiful ports stuff obviously they need to go to ship

chose the one which is focused on wildlife now it's not that common to get land tour add-ons regent do do that

quite a lot i've seen that many of their uh early packages will include some sort

of pre-stay or postay uh but I haven't seen it on many other lines i'm sure there are others that do it maybe Sarah

has can throw um you know more light on that but it's seems less common most

cruise lines will tend to either give you obviously discounts or they will give you a trouble credit or you know

upgrade you know you you which is one of my favorite ways to book is you'll book a balcony and get a bigger balcony or

book a balcony and get a suite or go ocean view get a balcony those are the more the more normal ones because but

for me that that land tour is huge perceived and real added value so I'm

going to get to go to a couple of um uh safari parks and that's that sort of
