The cast of 'Mission: Impossible' on the importance of humanity during the rise of AI

We're in a time where there's been a meteoric rise of artificial intelligence over the past year, even since Dead Reckoning

And this film is such a, like, coming together of so many, of all the different themes and characters from the series

In particular, you know, the entity and the anti-god, which, you know, you give this amazing monologue in Mission Impossible 3 about that scared me to pieces

The anti-god is like an accelerated mutator, so, you know, like an unstoppable force of destructive power that would just lay waste to everything

to buildings and parks and streets and children and ice cream parlors, you know

So whenever I see like a rogue organization willing to spend this amount of money on a mystery tech

I always assume it's the anti-god. Can you break down the connection between the Entity and the anti-god and how that works

Yeah, I mean, the Entity was around in its nascent form a long time ago

You know, it was a malicious code basically, which itself evolved into what we you know are up against in Dead Reckoning and the Final Reckoning And I love the idea that McHugh looked back into the past to see where things may have started

where the rumblings of the entity may have begun, and further back as well to, obviously

to when Bill Donlow was exiled to Alaska. He's so clever like that

McHugh really respects the legacy of these films, not just the films, but the TV show as well

There were lots of little Easter eggs, you know, like Paris, the character of Paris, you know, there was a Paris in the original TV show

It's just a really smart way of tying up this, these, these, these eight films in a sort of a bow

That's the pattern, isn't it? You refuse to sacrifice the ones you hold close

This movie, you see the guy questioning certain things. He questions if he's doing the right thing

Who should you trust And in this one I glad that he has a chance to break away and actually make the decision on his own about like hey this is the side I want to fight on This is the side I think I should be trusting Because before it was more so of like I have to follow orders because this is my job I a CIA agent But I think they got made the right choice by going with trusting these hooligans is what I

call Benji, Paris, Grace and Ethan. I mean, they really complete each other too. They form a great

team. For me, the character starts with this kind of quest for

revenge with Gabriel because he betrayed her. I think it was like a

beautiful arc of the character to play with and her joining the team and having to explore

feelings and caring about others and things like that. You know, she was like

a killing machine and really enjoying destroying everything with a touch of

vulnerability at the end of the movie but for this one, you know, I got to interact with

some great people like Tarzan. I feel like the core theme of this film is friendship

So that, of course, the anti-god and the entity, as you say

is sort of the villain. They are the thing that set up to the stakes But really it about a film about a team coming together and sacrificing personal ambition for the sake of the good of all people And it the triumph of the human spirit

We care about these characters and that means that these big set pieces have a lot more meaning and a lot more emotion behind them

They've centered humanity at the core and the moral compass of Ethan Hunt and his team is so beautiful and so heartfelt

Why do you think right now it's important to prioritize humanity? because what I mean what do we have left without it you know we have to we are we're made to be in

communion with with one another with one another with each other so even though that's a great tool

it you know it's we need to keep it in its in its lane and its benefit to us not to detriment of us

I need you to trust me one last time
