Hi it's Catherine here from Lala My Lodge. In this video I'm going to show you how to
0:03
crochet a spider stitch edging. I used this border when making the Limoncello baby blanket
0:09
and I will leave a link to that pattern in the description below. Ok so I've made another granny square here to show you how to do this edging. I always
0:16
like to start off with a round of single crochet before I edge my blankets just to give a nice
0:20
even base. So I'm going to put a slip knot on my hook and go in with a single crochet
0:29
here. It's my personal preference that I don't really like joins in corners but if
0:35
you prefer to start in the corner you can do that. So we're going to put a single crochet
0:39
in each stitch across the side of your blanket in the corner. I'm going to put a single crochet
0:48
chain 2 and single crochet. And then into the next stitch single crochet. Single crochet
0:58
all the way across to the next corner. And we're going to continue around the granny
1:03
square or your blanket with single crochet, chain 2, single crochet in each corner
1:08
So I've worked all the way around my swatch. I'm going to end up with a slip stitch into
1:14
this first single crochet here. And then I'm going to fasten off. I'm going to do the spider
1:19
stitch round in a different colour so you can see better and because I think it looks
1:22
pretty. I'm going to start with a slip knot on my hook and I'm going to count from the
1:30
corner, here's the corner space, we have one single crochet here, I'm going to go into
1:34
this single crochet here. So straight in with a single crochet, just tighten that a bit
1:44
And I'm going to chain 2 and put a single crochet in the same place. Now usually with
1:51
spider stitch you only chain 1 there but as it's for a border I think it makes the
1:57
peak stand out a little bit more and I think it looks prettier. So you can do it either way, you can do it with just 1 chain or with chain 2. So now we're going to skip the next
2:04
stitch and go into the corner. In the corner we're going to start with a single crochet
2:10
chain 2, another single crochet, chain 2 and another single crochet. So you've got a total
2:19
of 3 single crochets in that corner just like we normally have but you've got those
2:23
2 little peaks there as well from the spider stitch. So now we're going to continue along
2:29
this side, we're going to skip this first single crochet and go straight into this one
2:33
with a single crochet, chain 2, single crochet. So we skip a stitch, spider stitch, skip a
2:43
stitch, spider stitch, all the way across to our next corner and in the corner we'll
2:48
do the same as this one, single crochet, chain 2, single crochet, chain 2, single crochet
2:53
and then carry on with the next edge. We've worked all the way around and you can see
2:59
it's looking really pretty. Now as we get to the end here, conveniently I've got 1 stitch
3:05
that I can skip and I can slip stitch into this first single crochet here but if you
3:09
for some reason have an odd number of stitches then you can just skip an extra stitch and
3:15
just slip stitch to that single crochet and fasten off. If you liked this border tutorial
