American teens sentenced to spanking in Singapore

Michael Fay, an 18-year-old American visiting southeast Asia, was sentenced to four months in prison as well as corporal punishment: four strokes of the cane in Singapore in 1994 for vandalism charges involving defacing cars and stealing road signs. Despite appeals from President Bill Clinton, Singapore defended its strict criminal laws but agreed to reduce the caning from six to four strokes.
