I am starting today at an eye-watering 6am here at Cam Mondeau Airport because today
0:28
marks the beginning of such an incredible adventure. Today, I'm beginning the adventure to Mount Everest Base Camp
0:35
which is over 17,000 feet. It will take me about 12 days to get there
0:39
but first, I have to take a tiny flight to the world's most dangerous airport
0:44
so let's go. And this right behind me is our flight, probably the smallest flight I've ever taken
0:53
I'm not going to lie, I'm slightly outpensive to take this flight to the world's most dangerous airport
1:27
Oopla! Okay, I just safely made it here to Lukla. Let the adventure begin
2:25
so happy I've just made it to Park Ding which is the first stop on this 12 day
2:30
journey. What a beautiful trek so far. I'm gonna stop, grab some food, rest, ready
2:37
for the big adventure to start tomorrow. Good morning, it's a very cloudy and rainy start to day two
2:55
I started the hike about 15 minutes ago. Let's hope the sun comes out at one point today
3:00
Yeah, let's have a good day. I've been hiking for a couple of hours now
3:24
The scenery is so beautiful. I've kind of just been tracking the river for the entire way and the snow
3:32
It's started to get quite thick actually on top of the mountains. So, yeah, I'm loving it
3:41
To get to Namchi Bazaar you have to cross so many of these suspension bridges
4:02
Huge bridges which just sway in the wind. and underneath is a huge torrent of glacial water if you're scared of heights
4:15
pretty scary but this is beautiful Okay, I'm just hitting about 2935 metres
5:03
this in front of me is the world's tallest and longest suspension bridge over the valley
5:12
definitely not for the faint-hearted you can see I'm pretty close to hitting the snow part of the valley it's about another
5:39
three hour trek until I reached Namchi which is about 3,400 meters so
6:14
I just hit 3,300 meters now everything that's falling from the sky is snow oh my god
6:24
wow so when you're trekking here in the Everest Base Camp route you're going to be staying at
6:35
tea houses or lodges let me show you around the one I'm seeing in here in Namche Bazaar
6:44
So this is my bedroom. The sun is just going down. The prime focus of these tea houses and lodges is
7:08
to provide you with shelter. Inside the rooms there is no heating. There are some pretty nice
7:14
thick blankets though and some good fluffy pillows. Pretty perfect with these views right
7:29
And this is the heart of the tea house. The communal room. This is where everyone comes to warm up by the fire
7:40
Yak poo is used to keep the fire alive through the freezing evenings. I'll take it
7:45
I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it
7:49
I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it
7:53
And for dinner, a famous Nepali dish. This is dalbat. A hot mix of vegetables, rice, and lentil soup
8:03
Perfect after the long day of trekking. I'll take it. Done your bird. Done
8:12
can i feel this just from the tap yes thank you Alright, good morning everybody, it's day three
8:42
Today I'm going to get my body used to the altitude and go on a hike to hopefully see
8:47
my first glimpses of Mount Everest. This view is pretty spectacular right? Since I got to the
8:55
Everest Base Camp trek it's been raining down in the lower valley but today it's the first glimpses
9:00
of the mountains at sunrise and it's stunning. Thank you
9:47
Okay, I've made it to 3,775 metres. Up here, the air, I feel so thin
9:56
But you can see I'm basically in the clouds. The clouds are kind of just washing and rolling over me
10:02
It's a pretty stunning landscape. All of the trees are covered in snow
10:46
I couldn't see Everest
11:06
The weather here changes so fast and the snow has come in
11:10
It's biting cold. Oh my gosh. I've got to head back down
11:14
back into Nanchi Bazaar and rest before a big day tomorrow Good morning, it's day 4
11:41
I feel great today, the sun is out It's probably about minus five right now though
11:46
I've just left. The journey to Everest continues. Yesterday I spent my time acclimatising in Namche
11:54
And I feel really good. I am very happy with how my body is feeling
12:00
Let's have a great day and continue to the world's tallest mountain
12:05
Take a look at this view. So I've just hiked around the corner
12:25
The sun feels amazing, but right there, my friends, is my first glimpse of Mount Everest
12:33
It looks so beautiful. You can see the clouds just hugging the peaks
12:40
I don't think this view could get any better. And I know that will always be true
12:48
There were no reasons why And some beauty must die We try hard but we also
12:59
Oh, so reckless I really can't believe these views
13:10
I'm in shock. I feel like crying. Oh my gosh. And there's no way without
13:46
Cannot function with this power power There were no reasons why
13:56
Yes, our beauty must die We try hard but we also will fall
14:04
So reckless So reckless Okay, I have just hit 3600 meters and this is the first point where I can see that every
14:32
space camp is 21 hours walk. It's a pretty long way. I made it down to the riverbed, you can hear the river rushing down the valley
14:55
Now it's pretty much a vertical slope to the top of temperature
15:12
this is by far the most difficult part of the track so far
15:24
oh my gosh it's pretty much a vertical incline from the bottom of the valley
15:33
there's moments like this where I'm struggling where I have to think back
15:41
to why I'm doing this. The clouds are starting to roll in
15:56
The wind is starting to pick up. To my nose, I've never been more grateful
16:02
for some cool air. The sun is making things twice as hard
16:08
Oh my gosh. This trek basically winds its way up to the top of the mountain
16:17
You can see the mountain's just been covered with clouds. Man, this trek is no joke
16:33
It's tough. You can pretty much see how steep everything is There cool air Such a relief Oh my gosh I can do this
16:54
Come on. Okay, I've just made it to Tengu Che
17:19
You can see I'm right in the clouds. They are flying up the mountain
17:23
But I actually made it here at 1pm, which is five hours after I left
17:33
but I stopped for lunch for one hour. So I got here in four hours
17:37
So, yeah, I'm very happy. Wow. And this is my home for one night
17:43
so I'm going to get some rest. Wow, I'm so proud of myself
17:51
My first greeting to this place is horses. Gorgeous. So sleepy
18:07
That was by far the coldest night's sleep I've ever had. does about minus 12 but you can see the sun it's just starting to come up in the mountains but
18:18
let me show you the best bit this my friends is mount everest but there is lache i don't think the view could get any better
18:41
Thank you
19:41
So the trek from Tengbuche to Dingbuche is so stunning
20:06
You literally stare at the face of La Vuce and Mount Everest and this beautiful mountain here
20:14
The entire journey. So beautiful. 4,140 metres Dingbache. It should just be over that ridge, over the valley. It's starting to get very cold
20:59
the clouds are kind of rolling in so I'm trying to be quick but yeah I left two and a half hours
21:05
ago and I stopped for maybe 20 minutes for tea so so far so damn good
21:10
so windy
21:29
Okay so I arrived here in Dingbache at 4,400 metres a couple of hours ago. I've eaten
21:52
Now is the most important part. I have to get my body used to the altitude just like it did in
21:57
normal to bizarre so the task right now is to head to the top of here at 5,000 meters to hopefully
22:05
get my body used to the altitude the wind and the weather has come in it's pretty cold
22:10
let's wrap up let's go the wind is biting cold oh i can't feel my face but look at this
22:55
Gleaming black as night Coinset in injustice dead
23:05
In the iron town Nobody is losing Faces merge and change
23:17
But your face remains the same Being up here, quite literally inside the clouds in this kind of point, bitterly cold, it's
23:34
an incredible feeling. I'm a little bit scared because that mountain is so tall and you can see the clouds just
23:43
kind of engulfing and behind me is pretty much a sheer drop so I'll wait up here for
23:49
maybe 30 minutes get my body used to the altitude then head back down
24:05
so the snow is pretty much engulfed the entire valley you can kind of see some of
24:12
the peaks poking through but today has been a pretty physically testing and mentally testing day
24:21
I've struggled a little bit if I'm being completely honest yeah so I've just been journaling for a little bit and I came across something I wrote on the
24:34
20th of February so three weeks ago when I was flying to Pakistan and I wanted to share it with
24:41
So it says to Everest in memory of him to make him proud of who I have become it is going to be mentally and physically challenging but I really hope I can do it
25:22
and I read that just a moment ago and wow and tomorrow I embark on
25:32
pretty much the last leg of this journey I have two more days
25:37
until I will be at Everest Base Camp tomorrow. It's going to be pretty challenging
25:44
but the day after, I hope to reach the base camp of the world's tallest mountain
25:50
So I am freezing. It's about minus 12. I'm going to watch the sunset
25:57
and remind myself again why this journey is so important to me
26:04
And I will see you in the morning. It's another beautiful morning here on the Everest Base Camp Trek. Don't be
26:12
deceived by the Sun though. It's about minus 10 to minus 15. Right now the cold
26:18
air is making it a little bit difficult to breathe. It's a little bit windy too
26:22
and that wind is biting but yeah today the plan is to go to La Bucce which is
26:27
at 4,900 meters. I'm gonna take it slow. Yeah beautiful. my bag just broke, which is not ideal
26:40
I just had to tie it up, so I really hope it doesn't break any further
26:47
Not the best start. Oh my god, I finally made it to La Voce at 5030 metres
28:09
Today was so challenging, but it wasn't really my body that got me here
28:13
It was my mind. I couldn't be happier. Now I need to rest
28:20
okay so i came for a little bit of a hike to try and get my body more used to the
28:29
altitude i'm well over 5 000 meters now and right below here you can see the huge glacier
28:37
which is just flowing down the mountain it's still so windy up here and
28:44
being up here is just so amazing i still can't quite believe that tomorrow
28:53
i will be hitting base cam of the world's tallest mountain something i've dreamed of so
29:01
much for so long and tomorrow i'll be there it's crazy look at this it's just started snowing
29:41
Good morning. Today is base camp day. I still can't quite believe I made it this far and
29:59
as you can see it snowed pretty heavily last night so I hope the trek will be okay. The
30:08
The sun hasn't quite come up yet. The landscape is so stunning
30:12
I can't wait to get to base camp today. I'm so happy
30:15
I still can't, I just, I can't believe I've done it. And yeah, I've done it without any illness
30:21
No altitude sickness, no headaches, no nausea, no nothing. I feel so happy with my body and I can't wait to get there
30:31
So let's go. I'm so close base camp it's just here hopefully just a few more hours to go I'm so excited
31:03
you can see all of the snow just built up there was an avalanche actually
31:07
about 5 minutes ago just came tumbling down the mountain I wish I could have recorded it and you could have heard the sounds
31:14
it was so loud it was like a giant roar just coming down the mountain face Everest
31:19
just behind there surrounded by clouds I'm so close so I'm almost at base camp, base camp, it's just there but look at this glacier
31:49
wow just under two years ago this was flat and within those two years this has just collapsed
31:57
you can see the crevasses just down here I'm so close
32:08
I'm so exhausted. Oh, my gosh
32:23
After seven days of trekking
32:33
Seven days of tough conditions Seven days of self determination I've made it to the base camp of Everest
32:41
The world's tallest mountain At over 17,500 feet I'm so happy So proud
32:49
I just hope my granddad is proud too this is just the best feeling
32:54
I always ask myself Jay why do you put yourself through discomfort
33:02
why do you take yourself outside of your comfort zone the answer is
33:07
it makes you feel so raw so so happy and so so alive
33:14
and that my friends is the best feeling in the world Woo
