Epic adventure on the White Pass Railway in Skagway Alaska
Sep 3, 2026
-At the northern tip of Alaska's Inside Passage, about 100 miles north of Juneau, sits Skagway. A small town surrounded by mountains and built on one of the great rushes for fortune in American history.
During the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897 and '98, thousands of stampeders poured through this narrow valley on their way toward the Yukon. In just two years, Skagway grew from a single family to more than 8,000 people.
One of the most unusual is the Arctic Brotherhood Hall, built in 1899. Its famous facade is covered with more than 8,000 pieces of driftwood.
We're climbing aboard and following those historic rails out of Skagway up through the White Pass and into Canada. As the train climbs higher, we wind above DEEP RIVER gorges and past RUSHING waterfalls surrounded by RUGGID PEAKS and SWEEPING wilderness views on our way toward the Canadian border.
