Echinacea Tincture Recipe
Introduction:
Echinacea tincture is a potent, natural remedy used to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and fight off colds and flu. Known for its medicinal properties, Echinacea is commonly taken at the first sign of illness. This tincture is easy to make, using just a few ingredients, and allows you to harness the plant’s healing properties. Since tinctures are concentrated, only a few drops are needed for each dose, making it a long-lasting and effective remedy.
Ingredients:
1 cup dried Echinacea root (or 1.5 cups fresh)
2 cups high-proof alcohol (like vodka or brandy, 80-proof or higher)
Clean glass jar with a tight-sealing lid
Preparation:
Prepare the Echinacea: If you're using dried Echinacea, measure out 1 cup of the root. For fresh Echinacea, rinse thoroughly and chop finely before measuring 1.5 cups.
Add Echinacea to Jar: Place the dried or fresh Echinacea into the glass jar. Ensure the jar is clean and dry to avoid contamination.
Pour Alcohol: Cover the Echinacea with the alcohol, filling the jar until the herb is completely submerged. Leave a little space at the top (about 1 inch) to allow the mixture to expand.
Seal and Shake: Tighten the lid on the jar and shake well to combine the Echinacea and alcohol. Label the jar with the date and the contents.
Infusion Time: Place the jar in a cool, dark space for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar every few days to ensure the herbs and alcohol are well mixed.
Strain and Bottle: After 4-6 weeks, strain the tincture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, squeezing out the excess liquid. Transfer the tincture to a dark glass bottle for storage.
