Nearly a year after their White House meeting, US President Donald Trump says his dinner with Bill Maher was a "total waste of time.” In a Truth Social post, Trump slammed the ‘Real Time’ chat show host as a "highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT." The President added that Maher’s show has become “ANTI TRUMP,” and it was a "total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House." His post appeared to be inspired by Maher’s recent comments on his talk show ‘Real Time,’ where he mocked Trump's response to a potential trade deal between Canada and China. Trump’s Truth Social post claimed that China would "terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada.” Maher jokingly asked, "Why would China destroy hockey?" In Trump's response, he claimed he was not "being serious" and concluded that Maher is "no different" than other late-night Trump critics like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. After the 2025 dinner, Maher said Trump was different in person, telling the audience on an episode of ‘Real Time’ that "everything I've ever not liked about him was, I swear to God, absent."
