Patrick Stewart Once Vowed He Would Never Retire From Acting
Oct 30, 2026
In his final interview, shortly before passing away at the age of 86, Patrick Stewart shared that he never intended to retire from acting.
Speaking to TV Insider in July, the English actor discussed his upcoming projects while celebrating the 60th anniversary of ‘Star Trek.’
“As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older,” Stewart said.
“I can’t imagine ever officially ‘retiring.’ I’ll always and forever be an actor,” Stewart explained.
During the interview, he also reflected on playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star Trek,’ describing the character as the “most significant role” of his career.
Stewart died at his Los Angeles home on October 28 following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia, his spokesperson announced.
His final film appearance will be in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ where he reprises his role as Professor Charles Xavier from the ‘X-Men’ franchise.
