A-List Actors Who Were Nearly Cast In Iconic Roles…
Feb 25, 2026
You win some, you lose some, and that’s especially true in Hollywood. Over the years, several stars have come close to landing major roles, only to watch someone else make them iconic.
Jodie Foster was nearly Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars’ before the part went to Carrie Fisher. Foster later explained she had a scheduling conflict and was already committed to a Disney project, referring to 1976’s ‘Freaky Friday.’
Before she starred in ‘The Hunger Games,’ Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for ‘Twilight.’ “They turned me down immediately,” she said on ‘The Rewatchables.’ “I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different.” A year later, she’d find the franchise that changed everything.
And Taylor Swift once tested for ‘Les Misérables,’ traveling to London for a trial run with Eddie Redmayne. Though she later joked she was there “for a good time and not a long time.”
The experience quickly became, as she put it, “a nightmare.” Ultimately, the role of Cosette went to Amanda Seyfried.
