Hey Husker fans, welcome to another episode of the Husker Big Red podcast with Chris Peterson
0:07
and Danny Gillette. As always, Go Big Red
0:16
Hey Husker fans and welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel. My name is Chris
0:20
Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette and we're back here on Monday morning
0:25
for another episode of the podcast. Danny, how you doing up there? You're freezing in
0:28
Massachusetts? I am, I am. It was very windy here yesterday so I just stayed inside and
0:36
watched a classic Dallas Cowboys playoff choke game in a dominant statement by your Packers
0:44
And then I watched, honestly, probably the best playoff game out of this entire weekend
0:48
with the Lions and the Rams. That was a really good game. So I kept busy, but yes, I'm cold
0:53
I cannot wait for spring, and I hate winter. Yeah, it's pretty cold here still in Montana
0:59
But it has warmed the heart to see the Packers ruin Jerry Jones' season again. So that was
1:04
awesome. It was fun to see the Lions move on. We've got a couple more NFL playoff games
1:09
today. There's some Huskers playing today too, especially for the Eagles. I know they've got, oh shoot, I'm just blanking on the names now. Jack Stoll. And then I believe they have
1:21
one other one, but I know they have Jack Stoll. I'm trying to think who the other guy is
1:26
but at any rate, I know there's quite a few guys for the Huskers playing in the NFL playoffs
1:32
over the next few weeks. So that's always fun to watch. Brett Maher was kicking for
1:37
the Rams last night, so didn't have any miscues. Of course, they lost by one point, but not
1:41
his fault. But like you said, that was probably the best playoff game that we've had so far
1:46
Trey Palmer today too. Oh yeah, Trey Palmer. Labonte David for the Bucs. That'll be a fun
1:52
matchup for Tampa Bay. See if they can knock off the defending NFC champs. And man, that
1:59
NFC bracket really opened up with the Packers knocking off the Cowboys. So it's kind of
2:04
why they're winning right now. It did. And you know what? There's no clear favorite
2:11
I think, in the NFC. I wouldn't be surprised if the Buccaneers gave the Eagles a game today
2:17
The Eagles have been sliding a little bit. So hopefully for the Eagles' sake, it's just
2:21
regular season, slow finish, and then turn it on in the playoffs. But I don't think the
2:26
Eagles are as clear cut to go back to the Super Bowl as they were originally thought
2:32
they would be. Yeah, they've been struggling here in the past few weeks. So we'll see what
2:37
happens tonight. And before we get into some Nebraska recruiting talk here, if you haven't
2:42
already, please do us the big favor of hitting the subscribe button to our channel. Hit the
2:46
like button. Get into the comment section. That helps us out. It helps people find our
2:51
content. So if you can do that, we definitely appreciate that. But there are a ton of things
2:56
going on right now. We're getting into the winter period. We have the early enrollees
3:00
getting on campus for Nebraska. We have the Polynesian Bowl coming up this week. So there
3:05
are some things happening. A big junior day coming up next weekend. But the first thing
3:10
I wanted to touch on, I don't know if you have seen this, but Nebraska has been in contact
3:15
with the JUCO defensive tackle, Dylan Chrisley. I actually had the chance to exchange some
3:21
messages with him yesterday. And basically, you know, this kid is 6'1", and he's 275. I read an
3:27
article by Brian Munson where he said that the 40 time was 4'4", 8". And you know, I just
3:33
wanted to verify that. So I straight up asked him, was that a typo? Or is that correct? And
3:37
he did, he benched for, he does run the 40 in 4'4", 8", he said. And he does a 225 bench
3:45
press 40 times. He can do 40 reps of that. He had 11 and a half sacks last season. He told
3:49
me that it's between Nebraska and Maryland. So yeah, I don't know that there could be
3:54
another, you know, really athletic, disruptive defender being added to this 2024 class. Because
4:01
he told me he's going to make his decision and he will be enrolling this spring. So he
4:05
could be joining this team within the next week or so. Relatively soon, yeah. 4'4", 8". Wow, that's a big man that can move. And I did see that
4:14
yesterday. And I mean, you can always use more defensive tackle depth. And you know
4:21
I always go back to even two seasons ago, and the position was not strong at all in
4:26
terms of depth. And now it's a position of strength on the entire roster. So I would
4:31
love if he came here. I mean, you know, it's one of those things where sure, maybe you
4:36
don't need a defensive tackle, but how are you going to pass up on a defensive tackle
4:41
with 4'4", 8 speed? I mean, it's one of those things where you're just, where you, you know
4:46
take a flyer and see if it works. I mean, you look at a guy, you know, and I always
4:51
kind of, you know, I read it and I thought about James Williams, you know, who played
4:56
earlier this year and, you know, kind of a guy that's not, you know, an All-American
5:01
or going to make any headlines, but one guy that could be a sneaky under the radar type
5:06
player. And I think, you know, he could fall into that same mold as well, because truth
5:12
be told, I think that the staff, you know, does a good job of maximizing and identifying
5:18
defensive line talent. And Williams last year, for example, was proof of that
5:23
Yeah. And it'll be interesting with Dylan Chrisley to see, you know, because he's 6'1"
5:27
275, which, you know, maybe isn't, you know, defensive tackle size, but in the 3'35"
5:34
I think he could play, you know, I think he could be like a 5 technique, play some 3 technique and they could potentially make him into, you know, type of a third down edge
5:43
rusher. You know, I haven't, you know, seen a ton of his tape. Obviously being a Juco guy
5:48
I believe there is some out there. I'll have to try to check it out. But at any rate, I mean, he's a guy that can rush the passer and whether he can do that from the inside or the outside
5:54
doesn't really matter. You need as many of those guys as possible. And so I think it would be a
5:59
nice addition. Maryland is involved along with their, I think he has seven FBS offers. So it's
6:05
not just Nebraska and it may come down to who, you know, makes a stronger push. But he, what he
6:11
told me straight up in the, what I messaged him, he said, Nebraska is my number one. I love the
6:16
culture there. So I don't know if it's, you know, coming down to a scholarship, you know, deal
6:20
or if they're trying to do an NIL thing, or if it's, you know, one of those type of offers
6:24
but Nebraska, like we've talked about, they do have the base salary thing, which is a nice thing
6:28
to offer. So I like the Oscars chances here. I hope that they can get this. And yeah, James
6:33
Williams is the first guy that I thought of too. You know, when I was talking with Dylan, just
6:37
you know, a guy that, you know, under-recruited, but Nebraska saw something and man, that guy
6:42
is going to make a big impact this year, I think. And hopefully Dylan Chrisley will join him. I mean
6:47
you can never have enough pass rushers ever. So I would like to see another one
6:51
Yeah. And, you know, I think it just speaks to, you know, the staff continuing to try to
6:59
load up on depth. And it's interesting that you mentioned that, you know, Chrisley likes what
7:05
they're building here, because it's not the first time I've heard a recruit or a commit say that
7:10
you know, and I think that speaks to how kids are beginning to see what direction this program is
7:18
headed in and why it's headed on the upswing. And, you know, it's interesting also that
7:24
you know, Chrisley has that speed and has that, you know, versatility because
7:30
you know, when you mentioned that just now, I thought of the linebacker, Stephon Thompson
7:35
and he can play the edge. He has that versatility to cover, you know, he's not exclusively a
7:40
linebacker and that's it. And, you know, getting fast moving defenders with versatility is something
7:46
that this defense, you know, has kind of hung its hat on. You know, last year, for example
7:52
I thought there were a lot of defenders that, you know, played all over the field. And, you know
7:57
it seems like they're continuing to find guys that can, you know, not only be, you know, pigeonholed
8:04
to one position, but can, you know, play at different levels and multiple levels of this
8:10
defense. And that's important too, because as we saw, you know, Tony White can put his players in
8:16
the best position to succeed. So the more athletes we give White, for example, the better. Yeah
8:22
versatility is the name of the game on defense. And yeah, I love guys that can, you know, do
8:27
multiple things, play in multiple spots and the Huskers have really been, you know, attracted to
8:31
those types of players. And yeah, like you said, they don't, they're not trying to pigeonhole a
8:35
guy. They just, they see foot, they see speed, they see football players. And basically they're
8:39
like, we can find a place for them. And that's what good coaching staffs can do. You know, if a
8:43
guy, if a guy can play football, you know, it's on you to put them in a position to succeed. And I
8:47
think the Huskers have done a good job of that. And Chris Lee, yeah, he mentioned the culture
8:52
specifically as a reason that he was interested in Nebraska. And I've been hammering this point
8:57
home since, you know, the last week is one of my takeaways from, you know, Michigan winning a
9:01
championship, but it's that culture, man. If you build the culture, especially in this area of the
9:05
portal and all that stuff, like if you can keep your own players and, you know, get the select
9:09
few that you want. And I really think Nebraska is in a good spot and, you know, Jim Harbaugh's
9:14
meeting with the Chargers today. So you could have, I mean, you could have three of the team
9:18
three of the four teams that were in the playoff last year that have a new head coach. Like that's crazy. So, I mean, it's, it really is a crazy time in college football going into this new era. And
9:27
I feel like Nebraska is very, you know, very well equipped for where they want to be. And I think
9:32
it's notable, you know, just on the Michigan thing. I was just thinking about this the other day. It's totally, you know, kind of, it's not really notable off, off, it's kind of off on a
9:39
tangent, but when, when Jim Harbaugh was about to take that Vikings job, you know, in 2021 or
9:46
whatever, one of the big names that was talked about, one of the names that was constantly
9:49
talked about in Michigan circles to replace him was Matt Ruhle. So like Matt Ruhle was very
9:54
interested even at that time and potentially leaving the NFL to go to Michigan. So it's like
9:59
I feel like Nebraska really almost dodged a bullet in the way the timing works out. And not that
10:03
you're on more, I think it's going to be a very good coach if that's who ends up, you know
10:06
replacing Harbaugh, if he even leaves. But we could, we could be sitting here having to
10:11
face Matt Ruhle, you know, at Michigan. And I'm like, man, that would, that Michigan at
10:15
Matt Ruhle at Michigan would have been a pretty dangerous thing, I think. And so I'm just happy
10:20
with, you know, the way, the way that it all worked out and, you know, destiny happens for a
10:24
reason. And so I think that, you know, Matt Ruhle coming here was destiny. And I really feel like
10:30
we're taking those steps, man. I know I'm not trying to get, you know, over, overhype things
10:36
but it's a good time to be a Nebraska fan, you know, Dylan Loyola and all that type of stuff
10:40
So at any rate, there's my rambling for this morning. Just don't have a reactionary Twitter take once the games start, because you know, the
10:48
you know, your fans will come back and get you. I can't, yeah. I mean, I just, I can't be held responsible for what I say during the games
10:57
That's what I tell people. You can't, that, that Chris during the three hour of like game time is
11:03
just an absolute psychopath. So I just try to stay off. I try to stay off and stick to, you know
11:12
I thought here and there, but anyway, I just, one final thought, I was reading an article
11:18
from the Omaha world Herald this weekend and, you know, it had Roger Gradney as one of the
11:23
players I was interviewed. And, you know, he said, you know, he basically along the lines of
11:29
he talked with coach Cooper and, you know, Cooper likes, you know, Gradney's versatility
11:34
and Gradney has trust in Cooper and, you know, things like that. So, you know, I think
11:40
I think it's a, it's more so about trying to put players in the best position to succeed
11:47
And, you know, I'm very interested to see, for example, what Roger Gradney does
11:51
cause I like his highlights at wide receiver, but you know, that, that doesn't mean he has to go
11:57
there. You know, he's, he's one of the guys I was, I was very interested in initially for the 2024
12:03
class. I believe he was the first commit in the 2024 class around this time last year. So
12:08
you know, it just goes to show that even if, you know, you're an athlete and you're not sure where
12:15
you're going to go, you know, this coaching staff can make you feel comfortable enough and put you
12:20
in a position where you can, you know, get, get the most out of yourself as a player
12:27
Yeah. Roger Gradney's a guy really excited. I feel like he's one guy that just doesn't get
12:31
talked about enough in this class. I don't know if it's cause, you know, he committed so early or
12:36
I mean, there's Nelson, there's a lot of in-state guys and, but he's like, I mean, I think he's in
12:41
the 300s or whatever, but this dude's like a freak and yeah, I love his tape at receiver. I love
12:45
I love this tape everywhere. So I'm really excited to see, you know, what happens with him
12:50
And the other thing too, you know, is we talked about this, you know, getting guys and, you know
12:56
making that vision of what they're going to be in Nebraska with their strength program, the nutrition program. I mean, we're just in year one, you know, this is going to take a couple
13:03
years, but I mean, a year or two down the road, I think we're really going to see the benefits of
13:08
all that type of stuff and the infrastructure that Matt Rule, you know, and his staff are
13:12
building, not just him, but he's got the vision and he's, he's executing on that vision. So
13:17
one thing, yeah, an important part, I guess, with the whole recruiting thing to shift a little bit
13:22
out of 2024, you know, outside of Dylan Chrisley, I don't think there's going to be a lot of
13:27
you know, additions for Nebraska, you know, in this, in this class, I don't see them doing much
13:31
I think they're, they're definitely way over scholarship as it is probably hoping that some
13:35
guys that I get in the transfer portal in the spring potentially, but so looking ahead to 2025
13:41
things have changed a little bit with Dylan Riola and Daniel Kalin. Alex Manske, we've talked about
13:47
him a lot. I believe he actually got a prediction to Nebraska that you wrote about Danny a while
13:52
back. Yeah. November. Yeah. It's, but of course that happened before Dylan Riola was even back
13:58
on the radar. So now this weekend, Nebraska is having a big junior day. I think there's going
14:04
to be 13 recruits on campus on Friday, 14 on Saturday. One of those will not be Alex Manske
14:10
though. The top quarterback target, I think in the 2025 class, he's going to be visiting Texas A&M
14:16
Colin Klein is there, you know, he was at Kansas state before, so probably not a great sign for the
14:21
Hustlers. Do you think that there's any chance that they can still get Manske? Do you think they're probably just going to have to focus on 2026? 2026. Cause honestly, once you've got Riola
14:30
and Kalin, then, you know, I think recruits kind of know where they stand as far as pecking order
14:36
in the quarterback room. I mean, we saw it a little bit with Trevor Purdy. I mean, I think he
14:40
he knew that he wasn't going to, you know, get a chance to start and that's okay. I mean
14:45
you know, I, I really like Alex Manske. I'm not going to bash him because he's probably
14:49
not trending towards Nebraska anymore. I really think he's a good quarterback and I know
14:53
the staff really liked him, but you know, the, the Riola change happened so fast and now
15:00
you know, it's a change of plans. And so I don't think so. I think I'm, you know
15:07
good for him that he's able to, you know, get an offer from Texas A&M. And
15:14
I think Nebraska is probably going to have to look elsewhere for another quarterback in the class
15:19
but I will say I saw Dayton Riola throwing, I believe with his quarterback coach. And
15:27
hopefully we have an inside track to him. Cause I think he's going to be an absolute stud. He's
15:32
he's got a good arm and I guess good quarterback play runs in the family
15:38
Bloodlines are, are a thing for sure. And yeah, he, I've watched his workouts too
15:42
that Dylan's done. And yeah, I definitely, he's my number one quarterback option right now. I
15:47
think, you know, if I had a choice between Manski and Dayton Riola, I definitely would take Dayton
15:52
Riola. I just think he has more upside and I think he hasn't even come close to, you know
15:58
once he kind of grows more and grows into his body more, man, he's going to be
16:02
he's going to be a legit prospect, I think. So I'm glad Nebraska does have somewhat of an inside
16:07
track there. Cause they did offer him very early and it was even when Dylan, you know
16:13
made it seem like pretty clear he wasn't going to come here. They still were recruiting Dayton. So I like where they stand in that regard. And with Manski, it does make sense. Cause if you
16:22
think about it from his perspective, if he committed, you know, and signed with Nebraska
16:26
in the 2025 class, which would be, you know, next December, right. Then assuming that Dylan
16:33
Riola starts this year and Daniel Kaelin Redshirts, then Alex Manski is going to be coming
16:37
on here as a true freshman with Daniel Kaelin as a redshirt freshman. So, I mean, even if all that
16:42
stuff worked out, I mean, unless he was able to beat out Kaelin, you know, which I don't think
16:46
he's going to be able to do. I mean, he said he had like one year of starting at Nebraska. So I
16:51
mean, it's just, just wasn't going to work out that way. And Texas A&M is a good place and
16:55
flying, I think had ties to him, you know, when he was at Kansas state too. So it makes sense
16:59
And there's another coach at Texas A&M with Tyson Nebraska, whose name I'm blanking on right now
17:04
who also, um, used to have ties to the program. So I can't remember his name. I'll look it up
17:12
Well, while you're talking, but, uh, yeah. So at any rate, you know, that's kind of one
17:18
you know, thing that's happening on the 2025, 26 front, um, in terms of this junior day
17:24
um, some 20, some notable 2025s. Um, I think that are coming to campus, obviously, um, Tyson
17:30
Terry, who's committed is going to be on campus. Christian Jones is going to be there on Friday
17:34
Um, there's a bunch of other four-star prospects, one five-star prospect that's going to be on
17:39
campus actually in the 2026 class, um, offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, um, Nebraska has been
17:46
in the mix for some of these top tackles. You know, Brandon Baker was one of them
17:50
still a little bit of a ways down the road, um, but it's good to see him, uh, get on campus again
17:55
for the house. Here's in that rule. Yeah. More offensive line talent. And I'll tell you what
17:59
it's a little bit of an easier sell when you have a Danny Kaelin and, uh, Dylan Rayola in the
18:05
quarterback room. I mean, you know, you want to, as an offensive lineman, and I'm sure you know
18:11
this, you want to make sure that, you know, where your quarterback is going to go, that you have a
18:15
confident quarterback and you know, that your work is not going to be for naught. And I think
18:22
I think these two quarterbacks, meaning Rayola and Kaelin, um, are, are a pretty easy sell for
18:27
the lineman. And, um, so, you know, you can never have too much of a good thing on the offensive
18:34
line. I keep building the pipeline and, you know, I'm very confident, uh, Dave, Dave Remington
18:40
actually, you know, expressed his confidence in Donovan Rayola, uh, in an article this weekend. So
18:47
I, I was once ready to write Rayola off, but you know, he's, he's, uh, impressed me with his
18:54
recruiting and how the line approved last year. So if we got a good thing going in the program
19:00
just let him do his thing. And, uh, you know, hopefully it produces good results because
19:05
I'm not going to complain about, for example, two, all Americans on, on the line in the 2024
19:11
class. So I'm still, I'm still seeing pictures and videos, you know, from Gibson pile and
19:18
you know, grant and even Carter Nelson. And it just looks like they've built a brotherhood within
19:23
the class, which is also great to see because, you know, that type of team mentality and, um
19:28
you know, effort and continuity in terms of being a program and not just a bunch of players put
19:34
together is extremely important. And you sure culture is a buzzword, you know, for a lot of
19:39
people and things like that. But for this program, after where we've been in the past five years or
19:44
so, I think it truly matters. Uh, yeah, definitely. Um, I believe that it matters too. And looking at
19:50
this junior day this weekend, I'm just trying to give you a rundown of some of the guys. Andrew
19:55
Marsh is one of the guys that's going to be on campus. Um, he's number 18 overall in 2025
20:01
according to these are according to the industry rankings. Yeah. Uh, chase Lofton is another guy
20:06
another key state group. Yeah. Um, so, you know, he basically right now you have Christian Jones
20:13
is the number one ranked recruit in Nebraska. Um, chase Lofton is number two. If you haven't been
20:18
following the chase Lofton recruitment, he's six, five, two, 200 pounds out of Omaha. And really
20:23
he's been getting a ton of sec offers like a and M's been in the mix, Oklahoma. So it's good to
20:28
see him. He's actually going to be on campus. Um, according to on three Friday and Saturday
20:33
um, like I said, Christian Jones, Isaiah Maisie, I'm out of, uh, Missouri. Um, yeah, he's really
20:41
good. Yeah. He's one Oh five. Um, Thomas Meyer is the, one of the top tight ends out of Iowa
20:49
So there's another Nebraska has done a great job of recruiting Kansas and Iowa. I think the past
20:54
you know, couple of cycles and Missouri, I know they're definitely trying to get more into
20:58
Missouri as well. They spent a lot of time last off season in Missouri. Yep. And that's, yeah
21:04
that's going to pay off, I believe. Um, and in this class too, um, with, uh, 2024 class with
21:09
Keelan Smith, um, Jack Limbaugh is a edge from Iowa. I'm sure that's probably a name that you
21:15
guys have heard. He's going to be visiting. Um, let's see if there's anybody else that's
21:20
ranked here that we definitely need to mention, but some of the guys that were just offered
21:26
uh, kind of are coming as well. Um, Jackson, like Jackson Carpenter and state guy, Connor Booth
21:32
Cain Burma. Some of our other commitments are coming. Cory Sims, another wide receiver out of
21:37
uh, Missouri ranked three 27th overall. He's pretty solid too. I remember looking at some
21:43
of his highlights the other day. He's pretty good. Uh, Cortez Mills from Miami. They've done
21:49
pretty well down there. Uh, Quinell Barrican Jr., which I'm not sure if that's how you pronounce
21:54
his name, but I have watched his tape quite a bit. He's from Texas, another wide receiver
21:59
So yeah, Garrett McGuire, man, he's, he's doing work like Garrett McGuire can recruit. So I'm
22:03
I feel very good about getting some quality wide receiver recruits in this class
22:08
One last thing on the Alex Mansky front. Uh, there is a little bit of a Nebraska connection. Um
22:15
there as well with Christian Ellsworth, he is now at Texas A&M and he was an offensive assistant
22:20
for, for, um, Nebraska and 2023. So I'm thinking that's where the Mansky, Texas A&M
22:28
you know, connection, you know, that, that definitely doesn't hurt things, uh, there
22:33
And also, um, and this is interesting and I'm not sure if it's connected. So I want to get
22:38
your thoughts on this. Uh, CJ Kovasos is no longer a member of the Nebraska football staff
22:45
So I'm wondering if that opens up a potential spot for Dana Holgerson in some sort of way
22:53
Uh, yeah, I mean, it could open up, you know, something, I don't know if there would be
22:57
cause he's, I believe he was like a personnel guy, right. Didn't he work in the, so, I mean
23:02
it could definitely open up some more money, but I feel like all along, I mean, even last year
23:07
you know, with the kind of the assistant, but I don't know that rule even filled the assistant
23:12
salary pool money. I know they gave Rayola more money and I know they gave Tony White more money
23:17
but I feel like they do have a little more in there to, uh, you know, you don't want to talk
23:22
about his, his kind of a pool for assistance. So I don't know, I could be wrong on that. I'm
23:27
wrong. A lot of things where I think I'm right, but I do think that I do think that they have room
23:32
to spend. I think it's more, I think it's more trying to find the right role and Holgerson too
23:38
it's not like he needs a job right now. He's going to get paid by Houston, but I kind of like that
23:43
He wants to, I just like guys that like football and, uh, you know, give me somebody like Matt
23:47
rule who that rule could have just sat on his couch this entire season, making tens of millions
23:52
of dollars, but he wanted to be around the game. And that's what I like. It seems like about
23:55
Holgerson too. Um, I would love to get him if not, you know, give me Glenn Thomas, who's coaching
24:01
tonight for the shooters, but they definitely need to get a quarterback's coach. I've been pounding the table, you know, about that for the last month or so
24:08
Yeah. And then, uh, we'll be ready to roll and no, it's, it's going to be really
24:13
I'm really excited to see this group, uh, you know, practice and, you know, the spring game
24:19
and things like that. Cause like I've said before, this is going to be a, uh, tenure defining
24:25
recruiting class for Matt rule and company. And as a side note, it was funny to see all the Florida
24:30
boys, uh, in their hats and coats and not used to that snow. I remember I saw a video of Bryce
24:37
Turner, who's obviously from Texas trying to deal with the snow. So welcome to Nebraska boys
24:44
Yeah. Get, get that in those mat drills and yeah. Getting them in the snow. It's that's
24:48
uh, yeah, I did see that. That makes her great stuff though. And you gotta, you do have to
24:53
embrace it as a, you know, as a Nebraska player, because you're going to have to play in the cold
24:57
Like that's just, that's how it's going to be. So I love it. And, um, yeah, it's, it's
25:03
interesting, but you know, it's, uh, they've been getting those Florida kids for a while
25:06
and hopefully they can get acclimated to the snow here quickly. Well, they've been getting them
25:10
but they haven't been able to get them to stay. That's true. But that that's not under rule
25:16
though. But yeah, I know what you're saying. I know what you're saying. But, oh, are you talking about just like this class in particular
25:24
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cause I, cause I didn't say that this, uh, our recent track record of
25:29
overall Florida kids has not been great. So no, it hasn't been great. No, you're right. Um
25:39
and then shoot, there wasn't something else I wanted to mention recruiting wise, but I'm
25:42
blanking now at any rate, I do like where the hostess, you know, or head with, with the, you
25:48
know, their in-state recruiting. Oh, that's right. The Polynesian bowl. I didn't want to mention the
25:51
Polynesian bowl. I didn't come back to me. Um, cause you were talking about, you know
25:55
watching these quarterbacks. So you're going to get a chance in Nebraska fans to get some reports on Dylan. Right. Well, this week that game will be Friday night. I believe it's at seven
26:03
Eastern, um, on NFL network. And, uh, I was watching commercials for it all weekend long
26:08
but there'll definitely be practice reports. He's, he's going to be playing in it. Carter
26:12
Nelson's going to be playing as well. Um, Preston Tamuah, um, who did have an injury earlier this
26:16
year. So it'd be good to see him kind of get some game action. I think he did return, but
26:20
um, but at any rate three guys to follow this week. And I know that I'll definitely be
26:25
you know, watching the updates for, uh, Carter Nelson and Ray Olin. I just, I want to watch
26:29
real to play on Friday night. I don't, I don't care really who's throwing the ball too, but I
26:33
just want to watch him sling it, man. Yeah. And I'll be able to watch the game. Uh, I, I, I'm in
26:38
a network, so I'll be able to watch the game and it's really cool to see in all these Nebraska
26:42
targets play in all these, you know, big, you know, bowl games and things like that. And you're
26:48
seeing the Nebraska brand really rise, you know, it's stock really rise. So that's a good thing as
26:54
well. And it speaks to the job that this coaching staff is doing on the recruiting trail. It
27:00
definitely has been, you know, they, they have done a great job on the recruiting trail. Um
27:04
hopefully they can continue that, but, uh, yeah, the football place is in a good spot. Um, quickly
27:08
I just wanted to touch some round ball talk because, uh, we got Rutgers coming up this week
27:14
The, uh, Nebraska women's basketball team, I should mention lost on Sunday, 62 to 58. So
27:21
they're kind of on the bubble as well. Um, at Minnesota, I don't know what it is about Nebraska teams against Minnesota, but, um, you know, for whatever reason, um, hasn't
27:29
hasn't worked out this year on the basketball court, but, uh, the, the ladies are playing
27:34
pretty well and, you know, they're essentially, I mean, I think they're in a little better
27:38
position than the men are right now, um, but they have lost two of their last three
27:42
The Huskers are playing at Rutgers on, um, Wednesday night and I hate to use the word
27:48
must win, but they really need to get a road victory here at some point. Yeah, no, it is a must win. And, um, you know, I think, uh, I don't know, man, for the men's team
28:00
just watching the Iowa game, it was like a completely different game than the one against
28:05
Purdue on Tuesday. And I honestly kind of expected it, you know, we talked about this a little on
28:11
Saturday, but I kind of expected it. I mean, so I'm just hoping, I'm just hoping that, you know
28:18
they can bounce back this week and yeah, in all sports, Minnesota teams have given us a run for
28:22
our money this year. And then, um, it also, you know, Friday night, uh, the wrestling team took
28:28
on Iowa and, uh, we lost Nash, uh, Nash suffered his first loss on the wrestling map against Iowa
28:35
but I was like the number one or two team in the country. So, um, you know, it was a bummer
28:39
but you know, it was a, it was still a somewhat competitive duel. I mean, they, the Huskers still
28:43
got to raise their game up there on the map, but Iowa obviously is a, they're kind of at another
28:48
level. So it is what it is. Yeah. And, uh, good to see Nash just out there doing something, um
28:57
athletically and, you know, it's, it's been really fun to follow his journey on the mat, uh, the
29:03
season. And yeah, I'm wondering too, you know, like how much, uh, cause he obviously he's at
29:10
285 to wrestle. I think he said he's going to get up to like three 10, which would be
29:14
maybe like 15 or 20 pounds lighter than last year. And like that kind of, I don't know, man
29:19
I feel like that could make him a better pass rusher. I mean, I, I feel like he's still gonna
29:24
be able to command, you know, the run defense very well. So I don't know. I like our defensive line
29:29
a lot going into next season. I don't think there's very many teams like maybe Michigan
29:33
and Ohio state have better defensive lines than Nebraska. But I mean, outside of that, I guess
29:38
I don't know Oregon that well, you know, I'd have to study their D line more, but I feel like our
29:42
defensive line is pretty, you know, in the top, uh, definitely in the upper echelon of the big 10
29:47
next year. And that's, that's the 18 team, big 10. I'm bummed. We don't play Michigan this year
29:53
McCarthy's gone. So I know they're still gonna, I think they're going to be better than people
29:58
think though. Cause they got a lot of their guys back on defense. Um, they did lose some
30:02
but like for the most part, like their defense is coming back. So they're still going to be tough
30:08
but yeah, they're, it'll be interesting to see what they do at quarterback. I don't know if they're going to get a transfer or whatever. And then yes, we'll see if Jim, I mean, Jim Harbaugh
30:16
is meeting with the charters today. So, I mean, uh, there's a reason that guys want so many games
30:20
I do have confidence in Sharon more, but they're, they're not going to be the same without Jim
30:25
Harbaugh. I definitely believe that. So there's your basketball talk. Always goes back to football
30:32
Yeah. We'll probably have more on that, that, that Rutgers game on, you know, we do our Wednesday
30:39
morning episode, but, um, and yeah, maybe if we had something, you know, I was real confident
30:44
I was really confident in Nebraska beating Iowa. I'm pretty sure I might've even guaranteed it on
30:49
our podcast last week. So maybe I jinxed the Oscars. I don't know. I've been waiting. I've
30:54
been waiting for like some Iowa person to like clip that and show it to me, but it hasn't happened
30:58
yet. So it was a little bit of a trap game. I felt, I mean, you know, we were still riding high
31:02
from Purdue. And like I said, on Saturday, I thought, uh, I thought Eli Rice played really
31:08
well. And, you know, Josiah Ali said something interesting, you know, something to the effect of
31:15
you know, we seem to get into a rhythm and then we lose. And so I, and he's right. I mean
31:21
it seems like, you know, you know, despite the big win at Purdue, I mean, they struggled against
31:27
um, Wisconsin struggled against Iowa. So they're hitting a little bit of a rough patch right now
31:32
And, you know, I think the game against Rutgers is going to be a big one
31:37
The one thing I'll say is that they have, you know, when they've had rough moments, they've bounced back, you know, when they have the Creighton loss, you know, they bounce back
31:44
Um, and I shouldn't have, I shouldn't have said that they haven't won on the road because they
31:47
did beat Kansas state on the road and Oregon state on a neutral floor, but you still got to
31:52
rack up some conference wins. And, you know, like we, like Fred pointed out, you know
31:56
in the NET rankings, which are a tool used by the committee, um, margin of victory or margin
32:01
of defeat does really move your ranking up and down. So like, you can't be getting beat by 20
32:05
points on the road. So they, they definitely, at least, I mean, even if they lose this game
32:10
they cannot get blown out again. Like they've got to get, you know, playing better and start
32:14
winning some road games here at some point. Cause Rutgers is tough. It's a tough place
32:20
Yeah. Especially at Rutgers Rutgers is a much different animal at Rutgers
32:23
Yeah. If only their football team was, uh, their, their football crowd was tough. Then
32:28
they'd really have something, but, uh, one thing, you know, I haven't studied their team yet for
32:33
like the preview of that. We usually write, but historically Rutgers has struggled as a shooting
32:38
They haven't been, they've been a very good defensive team, but not a great shooting team. And if that is still the case, you know, I think that that matches up pretty well with Nebraska
32:46
because that's, that's just what's killed them against Wisconsin and Iowa. And what's frustrating
32:51
about it is that Wisconsin and Iowa were both like, Wisconsin was averaging six, some three
32:56
point makes a game. And Iowa was like in the low sevens and they both made like court, they doubled
33:00
their season average against us. So that's when like, got to get that fixed. There was nothing
33:05
like, to be completely honest with you, there was nothing special about that Iowa team that made me
33:09
think that, Oh, wow. They're so unbeatable. Wisconsin, I thought was severely under-ranked
33:14
I thought they were really, really good that Iowa last Friday, though, frustrated me. I didn't think
33:19
they were like good at all. Honestly, it was one of the worst Iowa teams I've seen
33:24
Yeah. I agree. I like, yeah. Wisconsin's like, well, not Connor, a Segan guy's like coming off
33:28
the bench, hitting like four threes. Like that team is really good. But I will, yeah. I just
33:32
felt like it was too often. I mean, like I was not a great team, but they have, they can score
33:38
And if you give them open looks like they're going to make them. And then if you let guys get hot, so I just felt like the defense let Nebraska down really badly in that game, even
33:47
worse than Wisconsin. Cause like you said, Wisconsin's like, Wisconsin's going to be a
33:51
top four seed probably not overall, but they're going to be a top 2016 seed. You know what I mean
33:57
In the tournament. But, uh, as a basketball fan, they're going to be fun to watch in March
34:02
Yeah, they are. They shoot the ball really well. And they hopefully will represent the big
34:06
the big 10 always has these teams that play well, like Purdue and they go
34:10
just fall on their face. And the other thing too, Michigan state's got to start winning
34:15
My God, they've been, maybe they won yesterday, but they lost the Northwestern. So like they got
34:19
a, they got a win to help our resume look better. The one, the one thing that I always switch back
34:26
to Rutgers that I always follow the Rutgers and he's on the team anymore, but my buddies, uh
34:31
went to school with, uh, with, uh, Gio Baker. And I remember Gio Baker having some really good
34:36
games against us. He's a Derry, New Hampshire native and Gio Baker was really good. So that
34:42
was always the Rutgers connection I had. And I would always text my buddies and I'd be like
34:45
yeah, you guys were all athletes, but you guys are no Gio Baker. And of course they love that
34:50
So, you know, that's, that was my contribution to the group chat. And, uh, yeah, it, uh, definitely
34:57
got under their skin. But now every time I see Rutgers, I think a Gio Baker and how, uh, how
35:04
how my buddies kind of, uh, kind of got upset when I mentioned his name
35:11
That's funny. He was, he's probably playing like in Europe or somewhere. He was a good player. He
35:16
was a really good player, Gio Baker. So, um, all right guys, well, we'll wrap it up there with our
35:22
round ball talk. Uh, we'll come back on Wednesday. We'll talk a little bit more about Rutgers and
35:26
maybe some more, uh, probably get some Polynesian bowl updates. I'm sure there'll be some things
35:30
happening in the next couple of days too, that we will update you on. Um, so please do hit the
