Good morning fans and welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel. I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette
0:07
And we're back here on a Friday morning for another episode of our podcast
0:11
And we're looking ahead to the Stillwater Regional for the Nebraska baseball team
0:15
We got some recruiting news for football and basketball and we will touch on that
0:20
But before we do, please make sure that you subscribe to the channel, hit the like button, get into the comments section
0:25
That helps us out. And Danny, how are you doing this morning? Good. A little bit tired from all the basketball playoff games, but I'm doing good. It's good to be back with you
0:33
It feels like we haven't done a show in, let's see, we did one Tuesday if I'm not mistaken. Is that correct
0:38
No, we did one, did we? No, we did one Monday. That's right. Monday. Yeah, Monday I think. Yeah
0:43
So it's been a long week and a lot of news in Husker Nation
0:48
But it's good. I like being busy this time of year. There is no dead period in college athletics really anymore
0:54
So it's good. It's good. Yeah, so it's official visit season. Nebraska is not really doing any official visits this weekend
1:02
Their visits weekends are coming up June, I think, 14th and the 21st is basically when they have guys coming in
1:08
which is somewhat interesting. Most programs are doing it throughout June. So kind of interesting. Nebraska doesn't have anybody coming this weekend
1:15
But there is some important recruiting news, I think, to start with official visits getting set up with Chase Lofton and Christian Jones
1:24
Christian Jones has set up a visit, I believe, for the 14th. I think they were trying to get him on the 21st
1:29
or at least that's what I would have thought. They would have done that with some of their other bigger recruits
1:33
But they have him set up for a visit. I believe he's also going to visit Oklahoma and I want to say Tennessee
1:39
I could be wrong on that. But at any rate, Nebraska essentially in the top three or it might be USC
1:45
I can't quite remember. USC. So yes, Oklahoma, USC and Nebraska for Christian Jones and then Chase Lofton
1:54
He released basically a top, not necessarily a top four, but he scheduled visits to four different places
2:01
So you got Nebraska, Texas A&M and then shoot, I'm blanking on what the other two were
2:07
I think it's another SEC. Missouri is one of them. And I'm blanking on the other one
2:14
I want to say it's like Florida State. Florida State. That's what it is. Just to follow up really quickly on the Christian Jones visit schedule
2:20
He's taking a visit to USC from June 7th to June 9th. Nebraska will get June 14th through the 16th
2:28
And then he'll edit Oklahoma on June 21st through the 23rd. Okay. And then, yeah, so then Christian or Chase Lofton is going to be, you know, visiting Nebraska
2:39
And then he's also going to visit Missouri, which will be this weekend, Florida State and then also Texas A&M
2:46
So those are, you know, two of the top targets on the board for, you know, for in-state prospects
2:50
So, you know, I feel pretty confident with Chase Lofton, but I still think there's some work to do
2:56
And the same with Christian Jones. But, you know, I would be really surprised if, like I said
3:01
I'll be surprised if Matt Rule gets beat for an in-state recruit and, you know, I'll believe it when I see it
3:06
And honestly, you know, I would be too. And the only way I'm worried is that Missouri seems to have oodles of money everywhere
3:13
So, I mean, there is that. They seem to have mastered the NIL game
3:18
But, you know, I think we do stand in a good spot for both Lofton and Jones
3:23
You know, Jones visited during the spring game. And then he also, you know, has taken a couple other visits prior to that
3:34
So I feel good about where they stand. You know, like you said, it's hard for Matt Rule to get beat on an in-state recruit
3:41
And it seems like they've done a good job of sealing the deal on visits
3:46
So I'm confident in Nebraska's, you know, abilities to land these two
3:51
I don't think it's going to necessarily be easy because especially in Jones' case
3:55
USC and Oklahoma are certainly, you know, no programs to scoff at, but we'll see how it goes
4:03
Yeah, Christian Jones has visited like 11 times now. Chase Lofton's visited Nebraska, I think, nine times
4:09
So definitely have the lead in those regards, you know, in terms of how many times they visited and, you know, how hard they've been recruited
4:15
But, yeah, we'll see what happens. I mean, they definitely could use, you know, I think another linebacker like Christian Jones
4:21
And, you know, they may, you know, like I said many times before, I don't think recruiting shouldn't be based on what your current roster is
4:28
You recruit the best players that you possibly can regardless of position. And so that's what they need in Chase Lofton. It doesn't matter how many tight ends that, you know, they have or whatever
4:37
because, you know, that doesn't really make a difference. So, you know, he's sick. I mean, he's a 6'6'' prospect. He's a big time player
4:44
Christian Jones is a linebacker that runs, you know, sub 11 seconds in the 100
4:48
So those are guys that you want on your team. So hopefully Nebraska can get the job done there
4:54
And then there was another crystal ball for, you know, running back to Marion Parker
4:58
This is a pretty important one. It's been interesting, though, because Nebraska has been in contact with another running back
5:05
Mickey Nelson. He's unranked out of the state of Connecticut. So he's going to be visiting, I believe, next week. And then it's not an official visit
5:14
It's an unofficial visit. And then they'll be trying to bring him back. So I know that they got the crystal ball with Marion Parker
5:21
I'm not sure exactly what's going on with running back if they're trying to, you know, apply a little pressure to Marion Parker by, you know, bringing Nelson to campus
5:30
I'm not exactly sure, but I'm not sure if they're going to take both of them. That would be three running backs, although they've only signed one running back in the first two recruiting classes
5:37
So it's definitely a position of need. I'd be five or three. I mean, you know, you talked about how we kind of, you know, you know, it's a position of need
5:45
And the fact that Nebraska missed out on Kwon Lacey and Kwon Lacey decommitted
5:50
And you've seen the injuries, the total injuries of taking on the running back room in previous years
5:55
So I would totally be five or three. Parker's recruitment's a little bit interesting because, you know, it started all the way back in April
6:01
There were some crystal ball predictions that were put in at the beginning of April
6:05
And he took a visit to Nebraska at the beginning of April
6:10
And since then, it's been quiet. But at the same time, you know, we were kind of looking at this June 21st official visit date
6:19
It's been known for quite a while now. I remember posting something about it in March
6:24
So, you know, seeing this prediction ahead of the visit is certainly encouraging
6:31
He would fit well with, you know, the Big Ten or whatever is going to be the Big 25 when all is said and done by this point
6:38
And, you know, he's got a physical running style. He can accelerate and he's an east-west type runner
6:45
And he can use that acceleration to get to the outside. So, you know, I think he would fit well with what Nebraska is trying to do
6:52
And, you know, when you look at the current roster, they have two senior running backs on the roster currently
7:01
And Maurice Mezcua and Ramiro Johnson. So there is need for depth there
7:08
And adding Parker would definitely be another big get, especially like we've mentioned before
7:14
when you consider that Nebraska didn't really land any running backs in the first couple classes to start off
7:20
Yeah. So, I mean, they definitely, yeah, Jermarian Parker is, you know, a must-land guy, I think, in this class
7:27
And they really need to rebuild, you know, that room going forward. So hopefully, you know, they're able to get him
7:32
I know he's also taking a visit to TCU and Alabama is kind of lurking around there
7:36
So just kind of interesting how that recruitment is playing out with the running back room
7:41
So at any rate, and then, you know, Nebraska did make the top six for Douglas Utu on Thursday
7:50
So, you know, I mean, it's whatever, along with Michigan and some other schools
7:55
So, I mean, I don't really put too much stock into those things
7:59
But, I mean, I think that Nebraska is definitely, you know, right
8:03
I don't know if they're in the lead. I think that Michigan's probably in the lead for Utu. But we'll see. He's visiting there this weekend
8:09
I don't know that he has an official visit scheduled with Nebraska. I don't believe he does at this time
8:13
So we'll see kind of where that goes from there. But that would be the next step
8:17
It feels to me like they're more on the peripheral with him. Yeah. I'll be completely honest. Top sixes mean nothing to me
8:23
I mean, maybe top fives or top threes. But, you know, we'll see how it goes
8:28
They've done a good job of recruiting offensive linemen over the past couple cycles
8:33
And one other recruit that I forgot to mention is wide receiver Raheem Hutchins Jr
8:38
He's a four-star wide receiver from Texas. He announced his top three on Monday. It included Memphis and Houston
8:47
So I'm very interested to see where that goes. There is a lot of depth at wide receiver. But like you said, you don't recruit based on necessarily positional needs so much as talent
8:59
And the staff has made that very clear. So I honestly like where Nebraska stands with Hutchins, especially when you consider the other two programs on his list
9:09
And he's a Texas guy. He's rated relatively high. And so I like where Nebraska stands
9:18
Someone mentioned to me the other day, you know, don't you always like where Nebraska stands with every single recruit
9:23
And, you know, I said no. I mean, there's some that I really don't like where we stand, to be completely honest with you
9:30
But for Hutchins, I feel pretty confident that Nebraska definitely has a shot and could possibly land him, even with a loaded wide receiver room
9:39
Yeah. I mean, I don't have a good feel with David Sanders. I don't think that's happening
9:44
I mean, we'll see. He didn't even have the Nebraska hat. Yeah, I just don't see that happening
9:49
So that's one. Yeah. Like Douglas Utu, you know, we'll see. Doesn't have any official, doesn't have any visits set for Nebraska
9:56
Carmo, I don't feel good about either, to be honest with you. The linebacker from Minnesota
10:00
Yeah. I mean, it's yeah. As long as they get Christian Jones, I don't think that's that big of a deal
10:06
No, I mean, he'd be nice to have, but. But, yeah, I mean, they do need to rack up, you know, they need to start getting some more defensive targets on there
10:15
especially like D-line targets, you know, edge, which they've started to do a little bit
10:19
But they definitely need to land another, you know, another offensive tackle this class, like a good one
10:24
And so, you know, if they don't get Broderick Scholl, I'm not sure really where that's going to happen
10:29
because I don't I don't really see them getting Douglas Utu. I mean, it's possible. And I really don't seem to I don't think David Sanders is going to make it back to campus
10:38
So, I mean, maybe he will. You know, it's it's always possible. But, you know, that's kind of what I said right after
10:44
It's like it was good that they got him this visit and it was positive. But unless you get him back on campus, you know, another two times, it's like Michael Terry there
10:51
They're not going to win the Michael Terry recruitment if he visits one time. Like, that's just not enough. He's got to get back for probably something in this summer
10:59
And maybe even if the fall, if he takes his recruitment, you know, that deep. But right now it's like, yeah, Nebraska does have the lead
11:05
But I just don't believe that one visit is going to be enough to win that recruitment
11:09
Yeah. Terry spoke. I have spoken positively about Nebraska. But I mean, it's also going to be, you know, do they have the money
11:16
I mean, let's be honest here. Yeah. Well, he said that NIL was going to be one of the NIL and feeling like a family atmosphere
11:23
But he said NIL first. So I thought that that was telling. And it's just, you know, he said earlier this week when he did an interview, if I was going to commit today, I would be Nebraska
11:31
But I'm always wary about guys who say that because it's like, OK, well, then why aren't you committed then
11:35
You know, so I, you know, I always get wary of guys that, you know, are talking about that too much
11:40
And he's from Texas. Texas and Texas A&M are going to be hosting him for visits
11:45
Oregon's still in the mix. I do think that Nebraska is in a really good spot, though
11:49
But I do believe there's a reason why we haven't seen any crystal ball projections or whatever
11:54
It's because, you know, it's like it's like if you're in a soccer match and the score is 0-0 and you've had the ball most of the time
12:00
it's like, well, you should be winning, but you don't have a goal. So it really doesn't mean much of anything. And that's where Nebraska stands right now with Michael Terry
12:07
If we played the first 45 minutes like they controlled the ball, they've got it. They've got some attempts, but they haven't got the ball in the net
12:13
And so we'll see if they can get it there. Yeah, we'll see. And, you know, should Nebraska not land Michael Terry
12:20
it's going to make that June 21st visit weekend, you know, even more important because Cortez Mills is coming to town
12:26
So now, say Nebraska doesn't land Terry, you know, do you shift your focus to Mills
12:32
I mean, I think they're trying to get Mills, but like I said, I just don't see him getting Cortez Mills
12:36
I think that's why, you know, you're seeing that other guy, Hutchins or whatever, visiting
12:42
And, you know, to me, it's it's not about, you know, whether Nebraska is going to win that recruitment
12:48
It's about whether Nebraska, you know, wants to take that kid on their board. I know I know where he's ranked, but they don't do, you know, college staffs don't base their recruiting boards off rankings
12:57
So, you know, Memphis, Houston and Nebraska is not like an overwhelming top three for a four star recruit
13:03
So maybe the ranking doesn't meet the doesn't meet the road there. I'm not sure exactly. But so I really feel like that one's going to be one where they kind of slow play it a little bit
13:13
And then, you know, if they see, you know, it's going the wrong way with Terry and Mills, then they could then they could make him a take
13:19
That's my opinion on it. But and the other thing about Michael Terry, too, was he can play more than one position
13:24
I mean, he could play running back. You know, he could build he could play defense. So, you know, he is a true athlete and he actually had more rushing yards last season than he'd had receiving yards
13:33
He had like 800 rushing yards, like 500 receiving yards. So, like, you know, Michael Terry could be a guy that could actually play running back, which would be in 76, three to ten
13:41
But, you know, he's he would be one of the best athletes they've ever recruited
13:45
You know, I'd love to. I would I would take both of them if they could get Terry and Cortez Mills
13:49
I would take both and, you know, kick off another guy on the back end of the commitment, you know, cut down those
13:55
You know, those those two dudes are worth it if you get top 100 guys. I don't care if it's three at the same position. Just take a look, figure it out
14:01
You know, I'd say I'd say this is just my personal opinion that you're going to have a better chance of getting Terry out of Texas
14:08
Then you're going to have getting Cortez Mills out of Florida because Miami is very interested in Mills as well
14:13
And, you know, say what you want about Miami and their success on the field
14:17
They have a boatload of money off of it. So, I mean, it's going to be very hard for Cortez Mills to leave the state of Florida, I think
14:25
And and and even if he does, there's no doubt that that Miami, for example, will make a push
14:31
So I like the idea of him coming to Nebraska. I'm not sure if it's going to happen. Same thing with Terry
14:37
To be completely honest with you, out of all the three, I feel better about Hutchins coming to Nebraska
14:41
But we'll see. At the very least, it's not like, oh, we have to get Terry or else the wide receiver position is completely screwed
14:47
Oh, we have to get Mills or else the wide receiver position is completely screwed. You know, now we've built depth and now we can kind of play with our options a little bit
14:54
And we don't have to, you know, hinge on one commitment in order to fill the wide receiver room
15:00
And in that respect, that's refreshing because we haven't always been able to do that in previous years
15:05
Mm hmm. Yeah. And it'll be interesting to see how some of these, you know, recruitments work out
15:12
If you're talking about running back and, you know, I was reading something from Brian Munson
15:18
And he kind of offered, you know, a fuss around the line, the same take where he doesn't see Nebraska taking Nelson and Parker
15:23
He doesn't see him taking three running backs. So I do think it's interesting that, you know, Mekki Nelson is coming in for this visit
15:30
And I'm going to be watching very closely for him to take an official visit, because I think if he takes an official visit
15:36
that tells me that Nebraska does not feel that confident in Jermarion Parker
15:40
I know what the crystal ball says, but but to me, something that something doesn't add up there
15:45
Something doesn't quite add up, because usually when you're getting a crystal ball, you're moving toward a commitment
15:50
And if that was happening, I don't see Nebraska, you know, bringing in Mekki Nelson for this visit and kind of having this offer and doing all this stuff with them
15:58
So there's something there. And either they're going to move on and take Nelson and Parker is going to go somewhere else
16:04
So they're trying to, you know, say, hey, like, we're going to bring in Mekki Nelson if you're not going to commit, you know, this month
16:10
So I don't know something. Something's going to happen at running back this month. And if it's not Jermarion Parker, it wouldn't shock me if they took a commitment from Mekki Nelson, especially, you know
16:19
if he takes an official visit, I would watch it. He's one that, you know, because he doesn't have a ton of major offers
16:23
Nebraska is like Syracuse is talking to him and Yukon is like his second best offer
16:28
So if Nebraska offers and takes him and if he's a take, I mean, I would definitely see him committing
16:33
You know, there's a good chance, I think. So it'll be interesting to see how that works out with running back
16:37
But I don't know. I've been getting this. I've been getting the weird vibe with Jermarion Parker ever since they started, since they offered Mekki Nelson
16:45
He actually has a crystal ball for Nebraska, too. So, you know, which I wrote about a few weeks ago
16:49
But I mean, so this is and I am actually me might be from the same guy, Mike Schaefer
16:54
I'll have to double check, but it might be from on three
16:58
But one, I know that he did get a projection for Nebraska. So at any rate, I do think that's interesting on the running back board
17:03
Well, the fact that, you know, Parker got crystal balls in April and we haven't really heard a lot since is very telling, too
17:11
And so, you know, we'll have to see how that shapes out
17:15
At the very least, Nebraska seems to have several plans for a 2025 running back
17:21
I would love Parker. Nelson would be great, too. But it will be interesting to see how it shakes out because they have struggled at landing and keeping running backs
17:29
So, you know, as much as I love Parker, as long as we get a running back, you know, another running back in this class, then I would be reasonably happy
17:39
We need more than one running back in this class. And I don't know if you would take three. So, you know, to me, I don't think you would
17:48
But stranger things have happened. And yeah, so let's switch. We'll switch gears here. Wrap up the recruiting talk
17:58
And now it's the NCAA baseball tournament will be getting underway today, 2 p.m
18:03
Central Time. Nebraska takes on Florida, an unranked team from the SEC
18:08
I think they had a losing record there, 20, 28 and 27 overall, but they are a dangerous team
18:13
I think they have like six hitters who've hit, you know, like 13 home runs this year. But their team is quite a bit high. It's like in the sixth range
18:20
I think we're Nebraska's like in the fours. So it does seem like the Oscars have the pitching advantage
18:25
You know, Brett Sears is going to get the start today. So it's really, you know, when you get to the postseason, it really is about pitching and defense and all that type of stuff
18:33
And you've got, you know, Brett Sears today, Mason McConaughey tomorrow, hopefully against Oklahoma State
18:38
because the key here, it's this weird bracket, you know, where you have the true double elimination
18:44
So you've got to be essentially you want to be the first team into the championship game
18:48
I mean, that's your best path to move on, especially, you know, on the road here
18:52
Like if Nebraska beats Florida and then loses to Oklahoma State, they would have to turn around and win three straight games, two against Oklahoma State to advance to the Super Regional
19:01
And that's going to be a tall order. They did do it. They beat Indiana twice last weekend, but that was on their home field
19:06
So that definitely helped. But it's been interesting because some, you know, there's been people talking up Nebraska baseball
19:13
There was one expert. I'm blanking on the name right now. I can find it
19:17
But, you know, he had Nebraska projected to make his College World Series
19:21
I mean, they do have a pretty good bracket. There's Clemson and Vanderbilt
19:25
You know, we're kind of on the opposite side of them if they could get to the Super Regional
19:30
So, yeah, it's it's it kind of sets up. Well, I believe that they do have the pitching to make a run
19:35
You know, with all the guys, you know, Will Walsh, Christo, I mean, Brockett
19:39
some of those other guys really gave them some solid innings last weekend. And that should definitely bolster their confidence going into, you know, this weekend
19:46
And it's not going to be easy. I mean, Oklahoma State and Florida especially are two very good offensive teams
19:51
But Nebraska has been raking pretty well, you know, been raking pretty well for these past couple of weeks
19:56
So I'm feeling confident and it's going to be it's going to be fun
20:00
And you know what? I'm ready to have my heart broken again. So let's see what happens
20:04
Seems like that's what I'm doing this year, hasn't it? You know, second ever meeting between Nebraska and Florida
20:10
The first one being, you know, June 19th, 2005. Florida defeated Nebraska seven to four in that one
20:17
Liam Peterson will be taking them out. Florida is two and four with a 583 ERA
20:23
So there, you know, I think Nebraska's bats will have a good shot to make some noise in this one
20:28
Obviously, Brett Sears takes the mound for Nebraska. And, you know, when you look at this lineup like you, like you just alluded to, I mean, Florida has a ton of power
20:41
They, you know, they have, you know, 2.1 home runs per game
20:45
They rank fourth nationally, fourth in the SEC, excuse me, with 116 home runs
20:51
And, you know, that's good for seventh nationally as well. So, I mean, these two lineups can hit
20:57
And, you know, I think what it's all going to come down to, and this may be kind of a no-brainer, is the pitching
21:03
You know, if the pitching can give Nebraska what they did in the Big Ten tournament with that type of innings
21:11
the amount of innings that they threw and, you know, the amount of clean innings that they threw, then that's important
21:16
And I also think it's important to get off to a fast start on the mound
21:20
Nebraska struggled at times early in, you know, finding their rhythm on the mound
21:24
And I guess a team like Florida, that cannot happen. You know, and you mentioned, you know, the 28-27 record
21:32
You know, this is SEC competition. I mean, they lost to Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament, and Vanderbilt's no slouch of a program
21:40
So that 28-27, in my opinion, is a little bit deceiving. Yep. Yeah
21:46
It's, you know, I know that people were talking about it's a, you know, a tough drive. You know, when you get an SEC team, it's a tough draw
21:51
That's, you know, just the way it is. But I like this draw for Nebraska in the sense that they didn't have to play, you know, a top seed from the SEC
21:59
They didn't. They're playing an Oklahoma State team, which, you know, this is their third straight year hosting a regional
22:04
So this is a very accomplished program. You know, they're very hungry in terms of Oklahoma State trying to get to that super regional and getting back to Omaha
22:14
So it's both of them. There's a lot of teams kind of pushing for that this weekend
22:18
So that's interesting. It's survive and advance, and we'll see what happens. I feel good about their—about today with Brett Sears and tomorrow with McConaughey
22:26
I think that, you know, winning those two games and putting yourself in that position is going to be their best path forward
22:31
So, you know, not that they can't come back and do it, but these first two games, I think, are going to set the tone for the postseason for Nebraska, especially today with Brett Sears. Absolutely
22:41
And on a side note, I hate how it's on ESPN+. I always complain about streaming services and stuff like that, but, man, they really make it hard to watch baseball
22:48
I mean, we ran into this problem during the regular season when, you know, they had a bunch of games on all sorts of networks
22:53
So I'm going to have to figure that out or, you know, figure out what to do
22:57
But I'm excited. I mean, this team— Turn into the radio broadcast. You know, the radio
23:01
I'm going to feel like an old guy. Sorry, Chris, an old guy
23:05
I'm going to have to listen to the radio and eat my peanuts and complain about millennials
23:10
But, no, I'm excited to, you know, see what they can do
23:14
I mean, this is a team that has gotten hot at the right time with the bats. The pitching has been stabilized, and they're coming off a very, you know, kind of emotional week winning the Big Ten tourney
23:25
So anything can happen in June. Yeah, and you get momentum. And, yeah, I mean, anything can happen, but that momentum is really important
23:34
So they've got it right now. Hopefully, you know, they can move—they're like that team that, you know, in Major League Baseball, that won in the wildcard round or whatever
23:41
and now is going to the divisional series. And sometimes you see those teams kind of keep moving on and advancing
23:46
So sometimes it does help when you get on a run like that. Now, the Nebraska needed that run to make the NCAA tournament, you know, seeing the other teams make it
23:54
But it was awesome to see them win that Big Ten championship, but I would love to see them, you know, make it back to Omaha for
24:00
I don't even know when the last time they did it. I have no idea. It's been forever. But it would be awesome to get there
24:05
So that starts again today, 2 Eastern or 2 Central, excuse me, at ESPN+
24:10
If you have it, that's cool. If not, huskers.com. And hopefully this weekend there'll be some more games on ESPN
24:16
I'm sure there will be. It's just, you know, it's kind of crazy how that schedule works out
24:20
But at any rate, the last thing we wanted to touch on, some Transfer Portal stuff with Nebraska basketball
24:26
Two scholarship spots still available. And the kid from UCLA, so Berka Buyuktunjel
24:34
I looked up his pronunciation. It's even worse than I thought. You know, it's good
24:40
Buyuktunjel, that's how you pronounce the— Okay. Yeah, Buyuktunjel, which is not how it looks at all
24:47
And how do you say his first name? Berka? Berka, yeah. Berka Buyuktunjel. Yeah
24:55
So anyway, there's a C in there. So apparently I'm not sure how that works out
24:59
But so there is, you know, Robin Washout of Husker Online projected him to Nebraska. Interesting
25:07
And that was a little—that was like a week or so ago
25:11
And so he said he's still sticking with that. There's some new interest with Nebraska with Trevon Brazile
25:18
It's a 6-10 forward from Arkansas who is going to the Transfer Portal market
25:23
It's possible he could go back to Arkansas. But, I mean, most of the time that usually doesn't happen
25:29
So he's a 6'10 guy, probably would come in and start right away. I mean, you know, the way that I look at it
25:34
They do have two scholarships available, so they could get both guys. They're both bigs
25:38
I mean, so I'm not sure exactly how that would work. But you can never have too many big guys, and it would be nice to see him, you know
25:44
kind of at that full scholarship low. They were never there last year
25:48
And, you know, Buka, whatever. Booyuk Tunjel, he's only played one year, so he's had multiple years of eligibility
25:58
Oh, man, we are on fire with our names today. Stop recruiting guys with weird names
26:05
It's not that tough. Actually, you know what? The guys with the tough names are usually ballers
26:10
Yeah, that's true. Thorben Janssen sticks out to mind from back in the day
26:16
But Brazil is interesting in the sense that he can, you know, play both the inside and the outside
26:22
Nebraska reportedly has the highest bid right now, for whatever that means
26:26
And, you know, Kentucky is also interested. And so, you know, when you look at how this roster shapes out, I was thinking about this the other day
26:36
And I totally forgot to message you and say this. But I think with the way the roster stands right now, we are better than where we were last year
26:44
And I think the emphasis on size is important, too. And when you look at a guy like Brazil, he can space the floor as well as drive to the hoop
26:52
So, you know, in this offense, you know, have him kind of play not necessarily solely on the perimeter
26:59
But if Braxton Meaney is on the floor, for example, you have a lengthy guy like Brazil kind of on the perimeter
27:05
You know, he can definitely fit into this offense in that way
27:09
He can also drive to the rim. He has good touch around the rim. So, you know, like I said, I don't know what highest bid means in terms of our chances of landing him
27:18
But as we're learning with the football program, money talks. So I'm glad that Nebraska is making an effort to land Brazil
27:26
And hopefully the UCLA guy, whose name I won't attempt to pronounce, you know, hopefully we can land both of them
27:35
And then that should, you know, complete the roster. And honestly, a pretty good roster, I might add, and a very busy and successful offseason, all things considered
27:45
Yeah, it'll be interesting with Brazil because St. John's and Georgetown are in the mix
27:51
And those Big East teams seem to have a crap ton of NIL money, you know, because they don't have football programs most of the time
27:57
So it's like all their booster money goes to basketball and they also will see if that works out
28:03
It would be nice to get one of those two guys. And just I think, you know, just another big would really solidify things
28:09
But I do like the roster to me. Like I said, you know, I think you got May
28:15
I'm totally blanking on the kid that they got from North Dakota State
28:19
Is it Morgan? Yeah, Morgan. I think he'll start and then Gary, Bryce Williams
28:25
And I think it's going to be Raleigh Wooster. I think you'll see Griffis come off the bench
28:30
Seagate come off the bench. You know, you could move it around. Gary could play some four, too
28:34
I mean, that's how you could do it. But that would be to me that's the best lineup that they have. Unless, you know, you really feel strongly about, you know, Juwan Gary is the four, you know
28:42
And to me, moving Gary up would be more about, you know, getting a spot in the lineup for a Seagent or Gavin Griffis
28:48
Which I would totally be fine with as well. I mean, I feel like Griffis and Seagent have the potential to start
28:55
So that gives you the flexibility there. Yeah, I think either of them could start, too, or they could be, you know, be very similar to like a
29:01
I think one of them could start. One of them could play the C.J. Wilcher role. Or, you know, I think it's just going to be matchup based
29:07
And Juwan Gary came off the bench for like the first 20 games last year
29:11
So and Bryce Williams came off the bench, too. So, I mean, I think there's going to be some moving parts
29:16
But those top seven, eight guys, I think, are all going to play, you know, 20 to 30 minutes
29:20
So whatever, whether it's start or bench or whatever, like those guys are going to play consistently
29:24
And they can still add kind of one more piece to that group, I think
29:28
And that's going to be Fred Hoiberg's objective for over the next week. So over the next couple of weeks, I guess I should say
29:35
So, yeah, we'll wrap it up there, you guys. But make sure that you're following the baseball team
29:39
Hopefully on Monday we'll be talking about Nebraska, you know, advancing to the Super Regionals
29:44
Some people have even suggested, you know, if Vanderbilt could knock off Clemson in that Super Regional
29:49
then if Nebraska knocked out, you know, one theirs in that Regional, excuse me
29:54
then it would be a Nebraska-Vanderbilt Super Regional. And since neither of those teams is seeded, they would have to decide where to host that
30:00
I'm not sure how that would happen. But it's possible in that crazy scenario that you could get a Regional in Nebraska
30:05
Is it going to be like the coin flip in Friday Night Lights where they have to decide the Texas High School playoffs
30:10
and they have to do the coin flip in the, you know, the dark in a secret location or something like that
30:15
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe. I'm not sure exactly how that's going to work out. But, you know
30:20
Maybe straighten the schedule or something? I don't know. But if it's based off attendance, I know Nebraska will get it
30:25
So we'll see. I don't know how they work that out. I don't know if it's based on seeding or any of that stuff
30:30
And side note on that, I believe Omaha got the go-ahead to host the Big Ten Tournament until 2027
30:36
Yeah, they did. So that will be cool going forward. That's a good venue for that. Absolutely
30:42
All right, guys. We'll wrap it up there. We're not doing the Saturday chat this weekend
30:46
Just to give you the heads up, we're going to postpone those until the season gets started. But we will be back on Monday
