How to customize Canva template sizes. Very simple
0:04
Hey guys, welcome back. In this video, I'll be showing you guys how you can customize any image or template in Canva
0:12
Plus, having the ability to customize template sizes can be a great way for you to convert any type of post into your own customized sign
0:23
You can also take some pre-existing templates for Instagram and then resize them for your website and vice versa
0:30
And there are so many different possibilities that you can unlock with this
0:34
So how exactly can you do that? Well, there are two ways to do it
0:39
I'll show you guys both of the ways, but keep in mind that the magic resize, which is a paid tool on Canva, is one of the easiest ways to resize
0:48
I'll show you guys how you can use that as well. And if you don't have the pro version of Canva, I still have you guys covered
0:54
So make sure to watch this video to know how to resize as well
0:58
one of the inbuilt tools in Canva. So if I go into Canva over here and I search for Instagram post and I'll just take any template from here
1:09
Let's say it's this one over here or something like this one
1:14
And I'm going to click on customize this template. Now, one of the default or easier ways to do this is by using the magic resize tool in Canva
1:23
To use this tool, simply head on over to the top left and you will see magic
1:28
Resized click on this option over here and you will see different resize options so if I want to do this for a Facebook post
1:36
Instagram post and if you scroll down you have different categories as well so for a book cover a mind map
1:43
magazine cover poster or you can just click on custom size and enter your size so let's say I want this to be in a square
1:52
custom size and I can enter that over here let's say I want this to be a 16
1:58
by 16 design like this and I can just enter that over here and I will click on continue and then once you click on continue over here you can choose two options you can either resize your current design and it will change the size of your current frame or you can click on
2:15
copy and resize which will build a separate document and it will create a new version where it is
2:22
resized to your new dimensions so these are the new dimensions to which this design has been
2:28
resized. Now, for a lot of people, buying Canva Pro is not going to be a realistic option if you want
2:36
to resize to, you know, a couple of designs. It's usually it's not the best option if you only have
2:42
this one feature you want to use. So you might be thinking, is there any other way that I could do this
2:48
for free? Well, we can do this manually and I'll show you guys how, but there is some editing that you
2:54
will have to do once you copy the basic design. So to do that, simply open up the design that you want and open up the canvas size that you want
3:04
So let's say that this is a square version and I want to build this in a, and I'll use a different
3:10
design so it's a bit more clear for you guys. So let's say I have this design over here
3:17
Now to customize this design into my own size, simply click on the bottom right over here
3:24
where it says grade view. Now from here, I'm going to go back into Canva and I'm going to click on Create Design
3:32
And I'm going to create my custom design. So let's say I want this to be an inches and the width is going to be 10 inches and the height is going to be 16 inches
3:43
And I'm going to click on Create New Design. This is a portraitesque design
3:48
Now, what I'm going to do is going back into my design in a Great View
3:52
I will open this up and then just click on Command C
3:55
Now what this will do is that this will copy this entire frame
3:59
And what you're going to do, if you're going to do Command C or Control C
4:04
depending on the device that you are using, go back into the newly created empty canvas and then click on Command V And you guys can see just like that our design has been copied Now keep in mind that there might be some proportions that might throw you off in your design
4:23
So if I take this design over here, this has a lot of text and all that
4:28
And I'll go into the grid view over here and I'll show you guys a different view
4:33
So if we go on ahead and we take this square design and let's say I want to convert that portrait design into a square
4:41
So I'll follow the same method. I'll click on Command C over here and then Command V over here
4:47
And you guys can see this is our design. Now it doesn't look as impactful as it does in the portrait version
4:55
So I will have to edit some of the proportions. To make it more proportionate, you would have to expand the image a little
5:02
And then you can resize it or restructure it and maybe you want to even increase the overall size
5:08
Then for our text, you can select all of the text elements together with your mouse
5:14
You can click on shift and then select your desired elements together
5:19
And you can click on group. What this will do is that this will make sure that all of the items and how they are written
5:26
or how they are presented remains preserved. So you can do groupings and you can also ungroup items if the proportions of the items do not fit
5:36
your new frame. Now let's say I have all of these items that look too small
5:41
So for this I would select all of these together and then click on group
5:45
Once I've grouped them, I'm going to increase the box size like this to make the text a bit more readable
5:51
Now I'm going to move them to the left over here and then I'm going to do the same thing for the text
5:57
So I have this text over here and I can increase the size like so
6:02
Now I've placed it over here. However, this text doesn't look good to me anymore and I want to do
6:07
to expand it a little so to do that simply click on the text and then click on ungroup once you do
6:14
that you can customize the appearance of the text so i going to add some spaces like this to minimalism and i going to place this over here like that and then you can customize the overall layout that you want or that you prefer
6:31
Like this, maybe I want to align it a bit more like so
6:36
Like this, we have customized pre-existing templates into different sizes onto Canva
6:42
Now, this can be applied to any kind of design. If I go ahead and search for book covers on Canva
6:48
There are quite a few different book covers available, and you can convert them in to your own sized designs
6:55
So a lot of people wonder that whether or not the images, proportions, you know, multi-element items would be ruined because of this
7:04
Well, that is not true at all. Just simply click on the design
7:09
Now, there is a third and final way to do this as well. It's not my preferred method, but it's still a method that I used as a beginner that was pretty effective
7:18
for the most part. And that is simply opening up your desired design and then open up a new canvas
7:26
where you want to resize it. So I'm just going to search for Instagram post and I want to convert that
7:33
book cover into an Instagram post size. So I'm going to open up a canvas that is the size of an
7:40
Instagram post like this. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to take that entire design and do a
7:46
right click and then expand and then select everything and then just click on more and click on copy
7:53
once you click on copy you're going to go on ahead open up the new canvas select it and then click on
8:00
command v or just click on paste this will copy the design as it is so you will have to expand like
8:08
this and then you can adjust the proportions accordingly to your new canvas so in this way you can
8:15
customized Canva templates to a new size. I hope you guys found this video helpful. If you did make
