How to add custom fields to products on Shopify
0:04
Hey guys, welcome back to the YouTube channel. Today I will be showing you guys how you can add custom fields to your products on Shopify
0:14
So let's get into it. Now, to get started with adding custom fields to your products on Shopify
0:21
the first thing you have to do is head on over to Shopify's and you're just going to log onto your account
0:28
Now previously you could not add, you know, multiple different variables or fields onto your products
0:34
But if you go into your product section and let's just take this as an example
0:40
Now, you guys can see this is my product. And if I scroll down over here, I can actually see variants
0:48
And I can add multiple different variants. So for a lot of the use cases that people were using custom fields for
0:56
they can now just click on variants and you can name the variant anything you like you don't have to be limited to color size but material or style it could be maybe um so roll diameter so you can add multiple different variables and you can obviously you can't name them whatever you want but you can add all the option values that you have and you can just you know put them in material or something like that so that is one option but if you feel like this does not look very professional especially if you feel like this does not look very professional especially if you
1:26
if you're running a larger e-com store, it's not going to look very good when you have, you know, material
1:33
and then in the material variable, you've actually added the size of the paper rolls
1:39
or the diameter of the paper rolls. So what can you do if you want to add custom fields
1:44
Well, it's rather simple as well. You don't have to learn how to code
1:49
It's not that difficult. So just head back to your Shopify store
1:54
And once you're back in your Shopify store, you want to click on online store over here and what you want to do is you have
2:02
whatever theme you have applied it doesn't matter it could be any theme whatsoever
2:06
you want to click on customize over here now once you click on customize the
2:12
block editor will open up so on the top you can see what section you editing and you just want to open up the product that you want to edit so we have you know this specific product you can add whatever product
2:26
you want that's totally up to you so you can just take any product that you want i'm just going
2:34
to take this product over here and it's toilet paper now i don't have materials for this but i
2:41
I want to add, you know, the width or the diameter of the toilet paper roll
2:45
So for that, I can use a custom field. Now, to add the custom field, what you want to do is you want to open the page for that specific product
2:54
So we're going to open up this one. Now, after that, you are actually going to see on the left side of your screen
3:01
You have multiple different, you know, categorizations. So we're just going to open this up
3:07
And you can see you have your header, template, all that. Now in your product information, you just want to click on add block
3:16
Now, once you click on add block on product information, you want to click on text
3:22
Once you add a text block within product information, you can just move it right to the section where it says variant picker
3:30
You can put it above or below the variant picker. That's totally up to you
3:35
Now, what you're going to do with this text block is that you're going to click on over here on the text block
3:40
and then once you have clicked on it you will click on the top right over here it says insert dynamic source so you will click on this and after that you will click on add meta field now this will open up the settings section and you have multiple different meta fields and you can click on add definitions or you can even take a look at your product and you know add different fields to new product so you can just click on over here in variance
4:10
Click on add definition and you can choose whatever you want. So and you can click on select type and this will be a product and within it's going to be a product variant
4:25
And you can click on list of product variants like so. Now once you added this you can just click on access option and give read access to select the options We going to give it to our storefronts and now i just going to click on save now once our variants are added i going to go back into my
4:44
editor and i'm going to click on add meta field and we can click on variant and we can select this
4:52
and we can just go on ahead and we're going to add our description as well i'm just going to refresh my
4:59
editor so we have our meta field up here so in this way you can add you know whatever
5:07
meta field you want you can change your dynamic source as well you can enter whatever you want
5:13
and you can remove the dynamic source and we'll change up the source as well if i can click on over
5:18
here add more fields if i want you guys can see you have like vendors and titles you have
5:24
multiple different fields that you can add but these are just some of the basic
5:29
basic ones that you can add. You can click on add definition and, you know, add any kind of
5:36
meta fields in terms of categorizations as well. You also can add them in your blogs, especially if
5:43
you're not using Shopify directly as a e-com assistant, but as a assistant for you to be able to
5:51
you to, you know, create like a directory of sorts onto your store. So you can do that and you also
5:59
have meta objects that can help you in defining cart upsells product bundles or anything like that so and you can add
6:07
the variant names 10 centimeter 20 centimeters so i have you know two fields of 40 and i am just going to click on
6:16
save then i can go ahead click on add meta field and i can just go on ahead and just add a block and i'm
6:25
going to click on text in my text block I can click on over here and select the specific meta field
6:31
that I want so now other than just these basic little features you can do a lot more with Shopify
6:38
and there are so many integrations that I recommend that you should add to a Shopify store
6:44
depending on what kind of store you are building and what kind of products you are adding
6:49
you definitely should be checking out some of the basic tools especially if you are using drop shipping as the main method So you have a bunch of different drop shipping are applications and adding variance in drop
7:03
shipped products can seem a little complicated and using this Metafield method can
7:08
really enable you into simplifying that entire process. Not only that, but if you go into
7:14
your product section over here and you take a look at any of your products, it's very
7:19
essential even if you're adding meta fields that on the right side of your screen you
7:24
have product organization now a lot of people add a bunch of different meta fields yet still they are
7:30
not able to get more sales or increase their sales now for that you actually need to create a good
7:37
categorization system for your website so you want to make sure that you are categorizing items
7:43
so that they are visible in a fashion that enables customers to easily find them
7:49
when they are looking for a specific item let's say they're looking for a collection a summer
7:54
collection winter collection if it's clothes if it's boarding goods you can launch them by you know
8:00
teams or games so on and so forth so just keep these things in mind because a lot of people
8:06
add one you know one specific thing like a meta field they think that that is the end of all
8:13
their problems no you want to constantly improve and yze your website take a look at
8:19
wherever your website is having certain issues, wherever you are losing sales, you are losing customers
8:24
and then you want to take those specific elements of your e-commerce store and improve them
8:31
So that is why reporting is such an integral feature of any, you know, e-commerce platform
8:37
