Elijah is known as one of the most flashy and rough prophets in sacred scriptures, and that because most of his ministry was characterized with vivid supernatural events. In spite of all the miraculous occurrences in his life , there was a time during his ministry where he was gripped with fear and ran for his life. And the person that caused Elijah to flee was no other than Jezebel , a woman whose name is synonymous with wickedness. We’ll be looking at the reasons why the Lord allowed Elijah to get to a place of fear and the implications

this is all part two of uh they study on
0:03
Elijah and we stopped at this section
0:06
here pride on dead with and read our
0:09
first Kings 19 verse nine to eleven and
0:12
again we proceed in the previous chapter
0:15
that previous section that um one of the
0:18
things that was recurring before like
0:20
Elijah's life was it was always and the
0:22
word of the Lord came to him and in
0:25
chapter 18 and in chapter 19 in the
0:28
beginning we saw that that didn't happen
0:29
so Elijah panicked so he wanted to die
0:32
and we were talking about his pride so
0:35
this is where we are now if you were
0:37
following the previous chapter
0:38
so that God asked Elijah what are you
0:42
doing here Elijah and Elijah replies
0:45
I've been very zealous for the Lord God
0:47
Almighty and the Israelite have rejected
0:50
your covenant torn down your altars and
0:52
put your prophets to death with a sword
0:54
I'm the only one left and now they're
0:57
trying to kill me too and the Lord said
0:59
go out and stand on the mountain in the
1:02
presence of the Lord for the Lord is
1:04
about to pass by that verse 11 itself is
1:07
it swear from studying at some point
1:09
we'll do that now they highlighted and
1:12
words above should and Elijah still
1:15
thought of himself more highly than he
1:17
ought to and the Lord aren't dealt with
1:19
it so let's see how God did with
1:21
Elijah's pride let's go to the next
1:23
slide and we say pride on dealt with him
1:26
more 19 first Kings 19 we read this then
1:31
he great and powerful wintry mountains
1:33
apart and shattered the rocks on before
1:35
a Lord what her Lord was not in the wind
1:37
after the wind there was an earthquake
1:39
but God was not in it the earthquake and
1:42
after the earthquake came in fire but
1:45
the Lord was not in the fire and after
1:48
if I came in gentle whisper and when
1:50
Elijah heard it he pulled his cloak over
1:52
his face and went out and stood at the
1:54
mouth of the cave then a voice say to
1:58
him what are you doing here Elijah so
2:01
this is the same thing that was stolen
2:03
idea earlier right and the word of the
2:05
Lord came to him and said what are you
2:07
doing here Elijah and you said I've been
2:11
very
2:11
for the Lord and I've done all these
2:13
things and avoiding and the word of the
2:15
Lord tells him and go into the mouth of
2:18
the cave and the Lord is about to pass
2:20
by and then all these things take place
2:22
and then finally there's a gentle
2:25
whisper and Elijah goes out and he voice
2:27
and says the same thing to him what are
2:29
you doing here Elijah now like I said
2:32
here this particular portion of this
2:34
chapter is very complex so I don't claim
2:37
to quite understand everything that's
2:38
taking place here but there's one thing
2:41
that I know is that God hates pride and
2:43
because he hates it he won't allow his
2:45
children to be proud so Elijah may have
2:47
had a successful ministry but make no
2:49
mistakes about it God didn't approve of
2:52
certain behavior patterns that he showed
2:54
and I talked about that earlier when he
2:57
was taunting the Prophet and when he
2:59
kept saying oh is he sleeping he was
3:04
talking referring to bail you see and he
3:06
kept saying thinking of himself more
3:08
highly than he ought to he thought it
3:09
was better than the other people
3:11
so the powerful wind and the earthquake
3:14
and fire were all caused by God but God
3:18
chose not to be part of it or he didn't
3:20
speak to them so Elijah at that point I
3:23
believe understood exactly what the Lord
3:26
was trying to teach him God opposes the
3:29
proud but gives grace to the humble
3:31
Jesus himself is the epitome of humility
3:33
and remember what he said in Matthew 11
3:36
and 28 to 30 right come to me all you
3:40
who are weary and burdened and I'll give
3:42
you rest take my yoke upon you and learn
3:44
from me for I am gentle and humble in
3:47
heart and you will find rest for your
3:49
souls for my yoke is easy and my burden
3:51
is light Elijah was taught that the way
3:55
of God is the way of law through
3:58
humility you see he didn't hear from God
4:02
and panic because God was teaching him a
4:04
lesson in humility and let's look at the
4:06
next set of verses so you can understand
4:08
what God is really trying to say because
4:11
Elijah was still very sold on the idea
4:12
of his own greatness so the voice hid on
4:16
what are you doing here Elijah
4:18
same statement made by the word of the
4:20
Lord which is Jesus he replied I've been
4:23
very easy
4:24
for a lord god almighty the Israelites
4:27
have rejected your covenant toned on
4:29
your altars and put your profits to
4:30
death with a sword I'm the only one left
4:33
and now they're trying to kill me too
4:35
and let's listen to our God told him in
4:37
verse 18 of that chapter 19 god says yet
4:41
I reserved 7,000 in Israel all whose
4:45
knees have not bowed down to Bale and
4:47
whose mouths have not kissed him you see
4:50
the thing is this Elijah was so sold on
4:52
his own greatness that he could not see
4:54
past that like he still thought of
4:57
himself as I've been very zealous for
4:59
the Lord I've been very doing this for
5:01
the Lord I'm the only one left I'm doing
5:03
this I'm doing that III and he forgot
5:07
one thing
5:07
she Elijah understood what God was
5:10
teaching him at that moment God
5:12
basically told him by the way you are
5:15
not the only one serving me there are
5:17
seven thousand folks whom you know
5:19
nothing about that I the LORD have
5:21
reserved and that's the key word
5:23
reserved the Lord is the one who works
5:25
in US and through us he gives us the
5:28
faith to believe and he also maintains
5:30
to have faith in us and Elijah forgotten
5:33
the minute and I just say I am the only
5:36
one left I've been very zealous he was
5:39
putting the focus on himself thinking
5:41
I'm doing all this thing because of our
5:42
own strength and God had to strip them
5:45
away of all his pride yes he stripped
5:48
all the pride away to show you only do
5:51
know this thing that you're doing
5:51
because I'm doing it through you and
5:54
Elijah have forgotten that ya forgotten
5:57
that God was working through him and in
5:59
him you know what I'm saying so let's go
6:02
to the next slide and that's my
6:04
concluding thought now first God hates
6:08
pride and will not tolerate any equal
6:10
because he won't share his glory with
6:11
anyone not you not me not the president
6:16
not anyone and God's children become
6:19
proud he will humble us that is just a
6:22
fact and that's the truth he will do
6:25
that so what do we need to keep in mind
6:28
every good thing that we've ever
6:30
achieved in our life is because of God
6:32
if we believe is because of God if we
6:35
trust him is because of himself if we do
6:38
good
6:38
things is because of God whatever we do
6:40
wherever it are we drink whatever we do
6:43
we do because God is working in us and
6:47
Paul the Apostle understood if this
6:49
fundamental truth and he said I am Who I
6:52
am by the grace of God we see three God
6:56
is the only one that can say I am Who I
6:58
am you know why because he is who is he
7:02
depends on no one he knows all the
7:06
contingencies why he's not contingent on
7:08
anything we depend on God we breathe
7:11
because God allows us to breathe you see
7:13
that Elijah forgot that and he had to be
7:15
taught a lesson in humility now another
7:19
key thing is here
7:20
this is dangerous because supernatural
7:22
manifestations a successful ministry do
7:25
not necessarily mean that God is
7:27
approving of one's behavior or your
7:29
inner motives or thought just because
7:32
God allows his purpose to flourish
7:34
through you doesn't mean that he accrues
7:36
of your hidden motives and agenda or
7:38
behavior this is why it's important to
7:41
understand that without faith without
7:44
God is impossible to please God you see
7:47
you can do it you can have a successful
7:49
ministry you can do all kind of stuff in
7:51
the name of God and God may not be in it
7:54
the same way he was not in the
7:56
earthquake he was not in the fire and he
7:58
was not in a strong wind you can be very
8:00
flashy you can do all kind of stuff but
8:04
maybe God is not in it with you he may
8:06
cause edema allowed to happen for his
8:08
own purpose but he may not be in it with
8:11
you and you know some people have said
8:15
that passage talks about how we have to
8:17
stay away from distractions which could
8:19
be true also because Elijah heard the
8:21
voice of God when everything was peace
8:24
peaceful and still stillness is
8:26
basically to stop to desist meaning
8:29
thank you where all the inner thought
8:31
every other distraction wants me taken
8:33
away so that you can hear from God but
8:36
is also I think the passage was really
8:38
more talking about his pride I may be
8:40
wrong but I've prayed about it and I
8:42
believe you know Elijah's cry had to be
8:44
dealt with now I'll leave you with first
8:46
Corinthians 13 because first Corinthians
8:49
13 tells us about how we
8:52
to live as Christians and let's go to
8:54
first Corinthians 13 because if you have
8:58
all the spiritual gifts and you don't
9:00
have this element you really is really
9:04
useless Paul refers to that in in this
9:07
chapter he says if I speak in the
9:10
tongues of men and of angels but do not
9:13
have love I'm only a resounding gong or
9:15
a clanging cymbal if I have the gift of
9:18
prophecy and can fathom all mysteries
9:20
and all knowledge and if I have a faith
9:22
that can move mountains but do not have
9:24
love I am and nothing if I give all I
9:28
possess to the poor and give over my
9:30
body to hardship that I may boast but do
9:33
not have love I gain nothing love is
9:37
patient love is kind it does not envy it
9:42
does not boast it is not proud it does
9:45
not dishonor other people it is not
9:48
self-seeking it is not easily angered it
9:50
keeps no record of wrongs love does not
9:54
delight in evil but rejoices with its
9:56
truth it always protects always trusts
9:59
always hopes always perseveres love
10:03
never fails but where there are
10:06
prophecies they will cease but there are
10:08
tongues they will be stilled where there
10:11
is knowledge he will pass away for we
10:13
know in part and we prophesy in part
10:15
well when completeness comes what is in
10:18
part is appears when I was a child I
10:21
thought like a child I thought like a
10:23
child I reasoned like a child when I
10:25
became a man I put the ways of childhood
10:28
behind me for now we see only a
10:30
reflection in a mirror but then we shall
10:34
see face to face now I know in part then
10:36
I shall know fully even as I'm fully
10:38
known and now these three things remain
10:41
Faith Hope and love but the greatest of
10:46
all these is love in our lives yet with
10:49
that okay so if you want I'll invite you
10:53
to go back and read that chapter again
10:55
and then think about love and think
10:57
about how you live in your life right
10:59
now are you being proud are you been
11:03
have absorbed and do you think you're
11:06
doing the things that you're doing
11:07
because you are the only one left or you
11:09
serving God because you are such so
11:12
special make no mistake the body every
11:15
gift that you have is because of God so
11:18
do not boast and do not think of
11:20
yourself more highly than you ought to
11:22
all right now you have a good day and
11:25
I'll see you the next time
