hello good morning this is tahi bottles
0:02
account and today we are going to be
0:04
diving into Genesis 15 we are just gonna
0:07
cover verse one today but to cover verse
0:11
1 we have to also understand a little
0:13
bit of the background on both before I
0:16
get into it there's one thing that was
0:18
always on my mind like when I listened
0:20
to her Jeremy Kemp song there's a song
0:23
that he came up with I guess a little
0:25
while ago and in the song he says I
0:27
don't want to leave a legacy only Jesus
0:30
and they cry of my heart as of late has
0:34
been Lord I want my life to count not so
0:39
that I'll leave a legacy so people
0:41
remember me but what I want them to
0:43
remember is you and your life through me
0:46
in the sense that on my funeral which I
0:50
know we are gonna die unless Jesus comes
0:53
back before we go now I don't want
0:56
people at my funeral to remember me by
0:59
because I used to talk about snicker so
1:01
I used to do certain things well you
1:03
remember what I used to do but I wanted
1:04
to remember that this is the man I love
1:06
the Lord that's the legacy that I want
1:10
to leave and if you look at Solomon in
1:12
Ecclesiastes he said he has a main duty
1:15
of men fear God
1:17
fear God and shun evil in a cesta we
1:20
exist to go if I got soul when I'm
1:23
buried and what I want to leave his that
1:26
and that's not because this is what the
1:29
desire this is the desire that the Lord
1:32
has put on my heart now is that's what I
1:33
want to leave us a legacy that people
1:35
remember him through me okay I just
1:38
wanted to say that because it goes in
1:41
line with the chapter that we're gonna
1:42
read today in Genesis 15 verse 1 now
1:46
this scripture starts with after these
1:50
things let me go to let me exit out here
1:54
real quick actually we just gonna go
1:56
into the into the in the actual slide
1:59
now when the word of the Lord came to
2:02
Abram the very first statement that he
2:05
made was in verse 1 of our Genesis is
2:08
fear not Abram
2:10
so that leads me to ask what could
2:13
Abraham have been fearful of because if
2:16
you look at chapter 14 he had just
2:18
defeated cha da Lama and his army of
2:21
three kings
2:22
so what could really be at the root of
2:25
Abram fear I don't think Abraham was
2:28
fearing any retaliation from main but
2:32
first to shed some light on what could
2:34
be at the root of his fear Abraham was
2:36
tied less he didn't have any children
2:39
so Abraham might have been fearful that
2:41
he will never have a child and
2:42
consequently all his hard work effort
2:46
and possessions will go to someone else
2:47
that income from his own loins so he was
2:50
concerned about his legacy just like
2:54
anybody else who will carry on his name
2:56
right and we all have within us the
2:59
desire to leave a legacy through our
3:01
offspring and Abraham wasn't any
3:03
different because and the next statement
3:06
that the Lord made was I'm your shield
3:08
you are very your reward shall be very
3:11
great so I'm gonna pause this for a
3:12
second and we're gonna look at the so
3:14
let's go back and read the verse again
3:17
in Genesis 15 verse 1 after these things
3:21
the word of the Lord came to Abram in a
3:23
vision and he says fear not Abram I am
3:26
your shield your reward shall be very
3:29
great but Abram said Oh Lord God what
3:32
will you give me for a continued child
3:35
less and the heir of my house is Eliezer
3:38
of Damascus and Abram said Behold you
3:41
have given me no offspring any member of
3:44
my household will be my heir and behold
3:47
the word of the Lord came to him and
3:50
said this man shall not be your heir
3:52
your very own son shall be your heir and
3:55
he brought him outside and said look
3:57
toward heaven and Number the Stars if
4:00
you are able to number them then he said
4:02
to him so shall your offspring be and he
4:07
believed the Lord and he counted it to
4:09
him as righteousness so let's go back to
4:12
the slides again because I failed to do
4:15
that and I wanted to show you a couple
4:16
of things here so let's go back to what
4:20
I said so like I said we all have
4:24
the desire to leave a legacy through our
4:26
offspring and Abram was wasn't any
4:28
different and the next statement the
4:31
Lord made was I'm your shield your
4:34
reward shall be very great
4:36
now you think is this we need to
4:38
understand the role of the fog avanti
4:41
the function of his shield his shields
4:44
main purpose is to guard and protect to
4:47
serve as a covering and we are told in
4:51
Ephesians 6 verse 16 in all
4:54
circumstances take up the shield of
4:57
faith with which you can extinguish all
5:00
the flaming darts of the evil one right
5:03
so in this case Abraham and Abram before
5:07
I became Abraham had those flames those
5:11
flaming dart from the evil one coming
5:13
fear fear of what fear of not having an
5:17
offspring that will carry on his legacy
5:19
right so in that verse the Lord was
5:23
basically saying to Abram hi my self
5:26
will be your faith consequently your
5:29
reward will be very great I want to
5:32
expand on that and look at the doxology
5:35
in Jude 1 verse 24 as it relates to
5:38
guarding and protecting the shield okay
5:41
the doxology says in Jude 1 verse 24 now
5:45
to him who is able to keep you from
5:48
stumbling and to present you blameless
5:51
before the presence of his glory with
5:53
great joy to the only God our Savior
5:56
through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory
5:59
Majesty Dominion and authority before
6:03
all time and now and forever amen so
6:10
basically the Lord was was declaring the
6:13
gospel to Abram in those statements when
6:15
he said fear not
6:16
I'm your shield your reward shall be
6:19
very pretty
6:20
Abraham or Abram had everything anyone
6:23
who desire as far as material
6:25
possessions were concerned he had Carol
6:28
servants silver and gold he was a
6:31
wealthy man but he didn't have a son and
6:34
if you stretch this tour
6:35
a little more he didn't yet have the Son
6:38
of God Abraham's physical problem being
6:41
childless was meant to communicate a
6:44
deeper truth in the sense that Abram and
6:47
what Abraham truly needed was the Lord
6:49
Himself
6:50
hence the words I am your shield your
6:53
very great reward the Lord and the Lord
6:56
was telling him in me Abraham you have
6:59
everything that you truly need
7:01
I'm sufficient for you and for everyone
7:04
to understand this truth of the gospel
7:06
the Lord allowed him to be childless for
7:08
a moment okay and Abram finally
7:11
understood and his deeper truth since
7:13
verse 6 and says abraham believed God
7:16
and he was counted to him as
7:18
righteousness in Galatians 3 6 there is
7:22
some light shed on that again does he
7:25
does he who supplies the spirit to you
7:27
and works miracles among you do so by
7:29
works of the law or by hearing with
7:31
faith justice abraham believed God and
7:35
he was counted to him as righteousness
7:37
northern that it is not it is those or
7:40
faith who are the sons of Abraham and
7:42
the scripture foreseeing that God would
7:45
justify the Gentiles by faith preached
7:48
the gospel beforehand to Abraham saying
7:51
in you shall all the nations be blessed
7:54
so then those were of faith are blessed
7:58
along with Abraham the man of faith okay
8:02
you see how Paul is really explaining
8:04
all these truths to us so Abram was
8:07
given a promise by God and he believed
8:09
and God read it early to him as
8:12
righteousness
8:12
Isaac was the child of promise and a
8:15
shadow of the grew promise which is
8:17
Jesus Christ Isaac was born by the
8:19
promise of God because at it by the time
8:21
as it was brought on board Abram was 100
8:25
years old and Sarah's womb was already
8:27
dead Berenice thus shown that Abram had
8:31
nothing to do with the promise God
8:33
performed a work in order dub
8:35
Abram might be justified by faith and
8:38
all his own works in Romans 4 verse 19
8:41
and 26 we are told he did not weaken in
8:43
faith when he considered his own body
8:45
which was as good as dead since he was
8:48
about 100
8:49
or when he considered the barrenness of
8:51
saris wound no unbelief made him waver
8:54
concerning the promise of God but he
8:56
grew strong in faith in his faith as he
8:59
gave glory to God fully convinced that
9:03
God was able to do what he had promised
9:05
that is why his faith was counted to him
9:08
as righteousness but the words he works
9:11
it was counted to him when are written
9:13
for his sake alone for four hours
9:15
also you also if you a child of Abraham
9:17
he will be counted to us we believe in
9:21
him who raised from the dead Jesus our
9:23
Lord who was delivered up for our
9:25
trespasses and raised for our
9:27
justification therefore from one man
9:31
this is in Hebrews 11 12 him as good as
9:34
dead were born descendants as many as
9:37
the saw stars of the heaven and as many
9:39
our state innumerable grains of the sand
9:41
by the seashore what we learn the
9:47
righteousness of God is revealed from
9:49
faith and for faith from the beginning
9:52
to the end of our earthly life when the
9:54
word of the Lord came to Abraham and
9:56
told him fear not
9:57
Abram I'm your shield your reward shall
9:59
be very great he was being preached the
10:02
gospel jesus said in John 8 verse 50 see
10:07
your father Abraham rejoiced that he
10:09
would see my day and he saw it and was
10:12
glad Abram indeed understood the Gospel
10:15
according to Jesus himself and believed
10:17
and God declared him righteous hence
10:19
relieved by faith because without faith
10:22
is impossible to please God faith comes
10:25
from God he is our shield our very great
10:28
reward so like I said this is like a
10:31
there's a lot of things to remember here
10:33
first the word of the Lord comes to
10:36
Abram fear not I am your shield your
10:40
reward shall be very great goddess type
10:43
say into us fear not because he himself
10:46
is our shield
10:48
to who to those who are born and
10:52
believed like Abraham our Father because
10:54
Abraham is called the father of all
10:56
faith so we believe just like Abraham
10:58
and by and by our by the promise of God
11:01
we become children of Abraham because we
11:04
believe as he believed and then God
11:07
can't get to us as righteousness so our
11:09
righteousness come from believing the
11:12
promise of God as the Holy Spirit
11:14
Himself works in us to will enact
11:16
according to his good purpose he
11:18
presents the gospel to us and because he
11:20
lives in us we respond with yes we
11:23
receive it we received your promise
11:24
Jesus because you yourself are is you
11:28
are a very great reward God is all that
11:33
we need this is what the scripture is
11:35
there for us because in God we have
11:36
everything that we need for life and
11:38
godliness to our knowledge of him who
11:40
called us out of darkness into his
11:43
marvelous light you see that so God
11:46
through His Holy Spirit does a work of
11:48
regeneration in you so that you can see
11:50
the gospel of Christ you can see the
11:53
truthfulness of trash you can see the
11:54
beauty of Christ you can see what he has
11:56
done for you and then you respond by
11:59
faith because God Himself was already
12:01
predisposed you to respond by His Holy
12:03
Spirit that indwells you this is this is
12:06
just amazing to me to know that we are
12:10
the true children of Abraham we will
12:12
believe just like our father abraham
12:14
believed because he set a stage for us
12:16
so our belief comes and is parallel to
12:20
Abraham's belief in the sense that we
12:23
believe what God says and then we
12:26
receive the gift of eternal life you see
12:30
that this is just amazing to me that
12:32
this was written for our sake we the
12:36
children of Abraham so you are part of
12:37
that promise if you believe just like
12:39
abraham believed and I hope these
12:41
descend you to read Genesis 15 verse 1
12:45
in the entire chapter in multiple
12:47
there's so much in there that I can't
12:49
even begin to unpack because I don't
12:51
even fully what I think I've
12:54
photographed it because there's so much
12:56
stuff that I got wanna teach us
12:58
just come under the tutelage of his
13:01
spirit and I allow them to do to change
13:03
transform you by the renewing of your
13:05
mind okay this is why we are told in the
13:07
scripture so I will encourage you to go
13:10
back and read the scripture again and
13:12
ask the Lord Himself to open your mind
13:14
to understand what he is trying to
13:16
reveal to us the children of Abraham
13:18
okay have a wonderful day and I'll see
13:21
you next time
