Welcome back to our study of the book of Hebrews; today we will conclude our lengthy journey through this great book by looking at Hebrews 13:10-25. In our previous session, we examined how the author advised his audience to be wary of false teachings. One of the points he makes is that Jesus Christ was the same yesterday, today, and forever. He sought to teach his audience that in order to avoid heresies, they should ensure that their leaders' character reflected just one thing: the messiah Christ. Today, he will place a renewed focus on identifying with the Messiah Jesus in order to find true salvation.

hello good morning and uh welcome back to our last um review of the book of hebrews today
0:07
we're gonna conclude chapter 13 which is the last chapter
0:12
again as we talked uh from weeks and months ago we said that uh
0:18
the book of hebrew we can't read it as a um you have to understand that when the
0:24
scriptures was being written it wasn't broken down into chapters that's something that we need to keep in
0:30
mind because if we don't do that then we can forget uh the intent of the letter again when you wrote that
0:37
uh the matter narrative was to con to convey to his readers that jesus again
0:43
was the perfect sacrifice that was offered for the sins of the people he took away sins he didn't just cover
0:51
over sins but he took it away there's remission of sins in jesus is the propitiation and the expiation for our
0:58
sins and first the jews and then the gentiles again we need to remember that this book
1:03
was written primarily for to the jews because some of them still insisted
1:08
on practicing certain um
1:14
laws of the old covenant which i wouldn't say that we're done with but they thought of those laws that
1:20
means as means for salvation again if you need to if you want to understand this you have to go back to the book of
1:26
galatians as well because in the book of galatians paul wrote against the
1:32
traditional judaizers who insisted on the gentiles being circumcised as a means for
1:39
salvation that's what needs to be kept in mind now what i wanted to say here is this
1:46
i don't think there's anything wrong with those practices of the old covenant as long as the one that is doing them
1:53
understand that this is not the means for salvation this is what we need to understand that
1:59
if you're doing them uh as a way to say yes i understand the intent
2:05
of these practices which is uh to look toward the the
2:11
messiah christ then i don't have any problem with it but i think the problem came when some
2:18
of these people insisted on doing those things as a means for salvation as a
2:23
means for fellowshipping with god thinking that this is how you're supposed to do this thing
2:30
i don't know if i'm conveying my ideas well here but what i want you to understand is this everything in the old covenant
2:37
the law of moses was put into place so that the worshiper and those who were
2:45
practicing those things could look to the to the coming messiah because again they were a shadow of things to come because they found their
2:52
fulfillment in jesus christ that's what needs to be kept in mind but some of these people were still doing these
2:57
things as if this is the means for salvation but salvation is found in no other name for
3:03
christ this is why when jesus died on the cross he said it is finished
3:08
and the veil was thrown from top to bottom indicating that god himself was
3:14
the one that did the tearing up of the veil again so
3:19
i want you to understand that because we have to be very careful not to say that those things are done within the sense that you shouldn't you know
3:26
the people at the time shouldn't do them at all now if they they knew and they understood the intent that those
3:34
practices found their fulfillment in christ then i will have no problem because to them you'll be a reminder of
3:40
what he has done you see what i'm trying to say but a problem came when they thought
3:46
that this was actually the means for peace with god which cannot be done
3:51
because we know that the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins this is why the worshiper
3:58
kept being consciously uh stricken their god conscious was still stricken because the blood of
4:03
bulls and goats could not take away sins only in christ jesus is their remission of sins i wanted to set that now last
4:10
week we talked about jesus christ being the same yesterday today and tomorrow and we talked about
4:16
some of the practical practical things that the writer was telling his readers and one of the things that he was
4:21
telling them was listen he wants he wanted them to to look uh to their leaders because those were displaying
4:29
um uh good character in the sense that whatever they did those leaders he
4:35
pointed to christ because jesus christ is the same yesterday today and tomorrow so one of the things that he wanted to
4:40
convey to his readers was that no matter what leader you go to there has to be one thing in mind which is
4:46
they have to point to jesus christ if they are pointing to a different messiah then you shouldn't listen to those
4:52
leaders and we also talked about him telling them to stay away from diverse and false teachings and this the
4:58
emphasis was to to warn them against false teachers who promote certain heresies
5:04
certain dietary laws and certain things certain fastings so he said it is good for the heart to be strengthened by
5:10
grace and not by food by that he meant those that certain dietary laws were
5:16
being promoted as means for again connecting with god he was telling them those things do not really help you if
5:23
you think this is by you doing this you're going to get access to the father that's not going to happen it's only
5:28
through christ grace and truth work hand in hand now the dietary laws and that the dietary
5:34
laws were great but people needed to understand the intent of those laws again those laws do not
5:40
replace the fact that jesus christ is the way the truth and the life and i think there was a misunderstanding
5:47
between the people they were practicing those things as means again for connecting with god
5:52
and he was saying those diverse teachings you have to be careful not to follow them so this is why it's important to keep
6:00
the matter narrative in mind when we read the scripture because he again
6:05
his sole intent was to present jesus as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the people
6:11
and everything else that happened in the in the law of moses the torah was pointing to the coming messiah so those
6:17
practices if well understood are okay but if you think by those practices you
6:23
gain access to god then that's not the right way to think that's why he was trying to communicate today now today
6:29
we're going to continue with chapter 13 and we're going to read verses 10 all the way to the last verse of this
6:35
section okay so i'm gonna go and read the passage so i'm reading out of the
6:40
esv so the scripture says to us in verse 10 starting from verse
6:46
10. we have an altar from which those who serve the tent
6:52
have no right to eat for the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by
7:00
the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp so jesus
7:06
also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own
7:12
blood therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured
7:18
for here we have no lasting city but we seek the city that is to come
7:24
through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to god that is the
7:30
fruit of lips that acknowledge his name do not neglect to do good and to share
7:37
what you have for such sacrifices are pleasing to god obey your leaders and submit to them
7:44
for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will have to give an account
7:50
let them do this with joy and not with groaning for that would be of no advantage to you
7:57
pray for us for we are sure that we have a clear conscience desiring to act
8:02
honorably in all things i urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that
8:07
i may be restored to you sooner the sun i mean now may the god of peace
8:13
who brought again from the dead our lord jesus the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant equip
8:20
you with everything good that you may do his will working in us that which that
8:25
which is pleasing in his sight through jesus christ to whom be the glory for ever and ever amen
8:32
i appeal to you brothers bear with my word of exaltation for i have written to you briefly you shall
8:39
know that our brother timothy has been released with whom i shall see you if it comes soon
8:45
greet all your leaders and all descent those who come from italy send you greetings grace be with you all
8:52
and this is the last sentence of this verse of this passage now this is the word of god again take
8:59
it as such so now let's try and unpack all these things here so from
9:04
verses 10 to 16 he says that we have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right
9:10
to eat because the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the
9:16
holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp so jesus
9:22
also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood
9:27
therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproachian door for here
9:33
he meant in jerusalem we have no lasting city where we seek the city that is to come the city of god
9:40
so basically he shift gears in these verses so he already mentioned the uselessness
9:47
the uselessness of certain and dietary main man-made principles
9:52
and he said those principles and those dietary man-made laws have no
9:57
bearing in the new covenant they are useless and now he's going to seal his argument
10:03
once and for all and the one that he has held since the beginning of this letter and the emphasis in this section is on
10:10
separation from dead religion and by that religion i mean certain old
10:17
practices from traditional judaizers he's saying there has to be an
10:22
identification with the messiah jesus in his reproach in his humiliating death
10:28
now when we talk about the reproach of christ we're talking about his death on the cross the scripture tells us that
10:34
he became sin so that we might become the righteousness for of god so he became sin for us god made
10:40
him sin to be seen so that we might become the righteousness of god
10:47
so basically the image planet here comes from the day of atonement now
10:53
the sin offering if you go to leviticus 16 27 which i'm gonna read briefly
10:59
before we go into this the scripture says in leviticus 16 27
11:04
and the bull for the sin offering and the good for the sin offering whose blood was brought into in in to make
11:11
atonement in the holy place shall be carried outside the camp
11:16
their skin and their flesh and their dung shall be burned up with fire
11:22
so basically the writer is spending that picture here so jesus christ the perfect sin offering
11:30
suffered and died outside the gate of jerusalem
11:35
so that's something that we need to understand so all true believers jews first and gentiles
11:41
must go out to him and this is spiritually speaking to the place of reproach that means outside the
11:48
camp outside jerusalem so basically the writer is telling his readers
11:53
why stay in jerusalem when this is not even your city in other words why
11:59
identify with the dead practices of the old traditional
12:04
judaizers under the old covenant why do they
12:09
because he's saying this has been done away within christ the messiah basically
12:14
he's telling them his jewish brothers that those who insist on serving the tent see you have
12:21
to understand that they are still serving the tent they are under the yoke of the tent
12:27
the old covenant worship regulations and then before i go on i want to say something clear
12:33
there's nothing wrong with serving the tent if you understand the intent of serving the tent
12:40
now these people here they disregarded jesus christ they probably thought that
12:45
jesus christ was accursed this is why i did not want to go to him because the son has been cursed because he was
12:51
hanging on the tree they didn't understand the plan of god and jesus himself says for as moses
12:58
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the son of man be lifted up that whoever looks to him
13:04
shall not perish but have what eternal life right so he's saying here that
13:09
listen if you insist if you insist on serving the tent being a slave to the
13:15
tent and its regulations you have no share in christ if you think that by doing those things
13:21
of the old covenant you're going to gain access to the father you have no share in christ because you have you've
13:27
basically rejected god's offer of salvation you are basically saying to god jesus christ
13:35
sacrifice means nothing to me this is why he's saying if you are serving the tent
13:41
see i just want to make sure this point is clear if you understand the intent of serving
13:48
the tent which is christ then i have no problem with you doing those things if that reminds you
13:55
of christ we all have our routines we do certain things because it keeps us from
14:00
drifting away so if those people were practicing those regulations knowing that listen we're doing this but
14:06
we are really looking to the messiah then that's okay but they thought this is how you gained access into the
14:13
holy of holies this is how you can you you were made right with god so what the writer is saying
14:20
you are separated from god because those religious practices are dead if you don't understand anything they
14:26
can't do anything for you just like he said the blood of bulls and goods
14:32
does not take away sin and jesus himself says in the scriptures in sacrifice and offerings in those
14:38
bulls uh sacrifice and offering you were not pleased for i say and then jesus said here i am i came so to do your will
14:46
so he does the word with the first in order to put in place the second so i think when when us gentile um
14:52
believers read these verses we show no compassion to god's on god's originally
14:57
chosen people the jews the intent was their pride you need to understand that it represented their
15:03
status as god's chosen people he meant everything but when jesus said it is
15:09
finished it meant the end of those practices now does that mean that end in the sense
15:14
that they couldn't be done anymore that's a question that i can't answer
15:19
and in the sense that these these were just supposed to be
15:24
put in place as a temporary way to to prepare the people for the coming messiah but i think those people
15:31
continue to do them as means for salvation this is what he was saying if you do that you are dead because you
15:38
have no share in christ now so for us gentiles we don't understand the sadness and the frustration and confusion that
15:45
followed after if i was a if i was a of a jewish background and
15:50
i also underwent the same changes you will be struggling too so we need to understand not to blame them
15:56
without truly understanding how they miss may have misunderstood god plan in the
16:02
first place the tent was never meant to to be something
16:08
uh lasting in the sense that the tenth was was the the old practices
16:14
of the old covenant were always uh a shadow of things to come
16:20
and if properly understood they would have led the people to the messiah i keep saying the same thing over and over
16:25
because i want you to understand that that practicing the old confident practices
16:32
is not bad if you understand the intent of them but if you think they are the
16:37
means to be made right with god then you have a problem just like the people in the
16:42
book of galatians and circumcision this is what i wanted to emphasize here
16:48
now let's move on so um he said we have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right
16:54
to eat so basically the transition would not be easy as we think it ought to be so we need to show compassion as gentile
17:01
believers see some of the readers of the letter were looking for a way to continue as
17:07
jewish followers of christ while escaping the persecution that would come from unbelieving jews
17:13
right so there's people here listen we are still jews we've been given the lord the oracles of god and everything the
17:19
law of moses so how can we continue to do this and so that we can escape the persecution because the traditional
17:25
judaizers they were present they were persecuting the other jewish believers who embraced the messiah christ
17:32
and the writer is telling them listen it cannot be done you have to make a decision whether you're going to
17:38
continue to serve the tent or you're going to you're going to realize that the tent cannot be served
17:44
as means for salvation so he was basically telling them get out of the old religious system and identify with
17:51
the messiah who died for you if you are ashamed of christ and he sacrificed then he also is going to be
17:59
ashamed of you there can be no room for compromise and he says that under the
18:04
system of the tent which is represented by jerusalem we have no lasting city
18:09
the jerusalem serving jerusalem or serving the tent was temporal he was
18:14
supposed to again lead the people to the city of god because he's saying that we seek the city that is to come the city
18:21
of god abraham isaac and jacob were looking forward to the city of god we saw that in chapter 11. they were
18:28
looking forward so basically everything else here is temporal and we talked about the tenth being temporal it was
18:34
just a physical manifestation it was supposed to keep the people's eyes on god the city of god so the one
18:41
that the patriarchs abraham isaac and jacob they are also looking forward to the city they were looking forward to the
18:47
city of god so they were not ashamed god is not ashamed the scripture tells us to be called their god and once again
18:54
the writer points that the fact that the old covenant practices were meant to lead the worshipers to christ so again i
19:03
said a lot here again let us go to him outside the camp in in the sense that he
19:08
is telling his jewish brothers let's go outside the camp and identify with the messiah identify with his
19:15
uh struggle identify with his humiliation because if you insist on serving the tent
19:20
you have no share in christ because you can't be ashamed of the messiah
19:27
because that's the means for salvation that he provided the means for salvation if you insist on serving the tenth
19:34
that means for salvation you are doomed because if you truly understood what the tent was all about you wouldn't have no
19:41
problem running to the messiah because you would identify with the shame and say this is my messiah this is who died so that i
19:48
can have access into the holy of holies so this is basically what he's trying to
19:53
convey in this chapter here from verses 10 to 14. and now let's go to verses 15
20:00
through 16. the scripture says through him then let us continually offer up a
20:05
sacrifice of praise to god that is the fruit of leaves that acknowledge his name
20:11
do not neglect to do good and to share what you have for such sacrifices are pleasing to god
20:18
again the emphasis here is through him through who through the messiah
20:24
so he's basically telling his readers and you and i to praise god only
20:29
through jesus and he says that this is the logical response from anyone who has come to
20:35
know the messiah if you've come to really understand who the messiah is your natural response
20:42
will be what praising god through jesus because you've understood what he has
20:47
done on your behalf so in other words when the truth of the gospel becomes absolutely clear to
20:54
anyone whether a jew or gentile the logical reaction that follows after
21:00
is praising god incessantly through jesus and paul the apostle says
21:07
in philippians 3 verse 7 to 10 listen to what paul says the apostle again paul
21:13
was again the jews of the jews he called himself uh a hebrew of the hebrews and he came to
21:19
know jesus christ now listen to why he says once he came to christ but the things that used to be
21:25
advantages for me i have because of the messiah come to consider a disadvantage
21:32
every all of his background everything that he ever stood all the stuff that he did he said listen i i don't even
21:38
consider those things anymore not only that but i consider everything at his advantage in comparison with the supreme
21:45
value of knowing the messiah yeshua as my lord
21:51
it was because of him that i gave up everything and regarded as all garbage in order to
21:58
gain the messiah and be found in union with him not having any righteousness of
22:03
my own based on legalism but having the righteousness which comes through the
22:10
messiah's faithfulness the righteousness from god based on trust yes i gave it all up in
22:17
order to know him that is to know the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings as i am
22:24
being conformed to his death so that somehow i might arrive at being
22:29
resurrected from the dead you see paul's thought here paul basically embodies
22:36
everything that has been written in the book of hebrews he's saying everything is written in the past all my
22:43
jewish background everything yes this is great because again to the jews was given the oracle of god
22:49
but paul came to understand that all that legalistic thing that he did was null and void
22:55
because he couldn't save him because everything else that it all these things were supposed to do what to lead him to
23:01
christ the law and the prophets were supposed to give us what to give the people to to make
23:08
them long for the christ but i think people then misunderstood it and thought
23:14
of the law as means for salvation it was never meant to be that way the law was supposed to reduce mankind to nothing to
23:20
reduce us to like absolute dependence on god for salvation but didn't understand it so therefore
23:27
they use it as a way as a means for salvation and paul says no when i came to understand who the
23:33
messiah was i understood that my righteousness was not a result of my doing but he's doing so therefore i
23:40
consider everything but done compared to knowing jesus christ doesn't mean that he gives up all his
23:46
his tradition and everything down you continue to you can continue to do those things as long as you understand
23:53
why they stan what they stand for see we can't just tell people who just give it all up no if you understand why
24:01
i'm doing this thing it makes actually makes even more sense you come to appreciate
24:06
god even more by saying god actually prepared us for the messiah because of
24:11
these things he prepared us so you just have to understand the intent so if you continue to practice those old
24:18
covenant practices as mean for salvation then you are doomed well if you do them to recognize in jesus the messiah then i
24:25
think god is pleased this is what i'm thinking again i'm not i'm just suggesting this
24:31
now paul's chief purpose once he came to know jesus was to know him even better and as a result
24:37
paul's life was characterized with what leaps that constantly praised god again
24:42
this is the logical response for anyone who has truly come to know jesus christ praising god if you come to know jesus
24:50
christ what you do is you praise god constantly and that's that has to be
24:55
what we do on a daily basis because again the scripture tells us that i am what i am by the grace of god
25:03
if you believe in jesus today is not because you came to understand the gospel on your own is because god
25:09
enabled you through the holy spirit to change your heart so that you can see in christ your savior and you have to be
25:15
forever grateful because god didn't have to god said i will have mercy on whom i have mercy
25:21
so he's been merciful to you and to me so what's our natural response praising
25:28
him through jesus christ now the next thing that um the the writer talks about is to
25:36
continue to do what good works do good and share what what we have because the scriptures say he praises
25:42
god see this is pretty much self explanatory so we are told in the book
25:48
of romans to find out what pleases god and do it and this is what we have to do on the constant basis
25:53
and the way we find out what places god is by being acquainted with his ways through
25:59
reading the word of god ephesians 2 verse 10 listen to what scripture says
26:04
for we are his workmanship created in christ jesus for good works
26:09
which god prepared beforehand that we shall walk in them so as a believer that should be your
26:16
response do that so we have to find our please god read his word because if you don't read the
26:22
word of god you won't know how to live your life people usually say the bible is what
26:27
basic instruction before leaving earth right so basically to know the will of
26:33
god you have to read the word of god you can't just sleep and then think you're gonna have dreams at night and the voice
26:39
of god is gonna tell you something i'm not saying that god does not operate that way but we have his word for
26:44
purpose so that we can read it and be acquainted with the way god works his
26:49
partner and it's clear the scripture tells us in him in god there is no darkness it is clear there is no
26:55
ambiguity there is no secret knowledge is there in the scripture and god is clear god is light
27:03
so the next thing we read is in verses 17 to 19 obey your leaders and submit to them
27:10
for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will have to give an account
27:15
let them do this with joy and not with groaning for thou be of no advantage to you
27:21
and pray for us for we are sure that we have a clear conscience desiring to act honorably in all things
27:28
i urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that i may be restored to you sooner now i'm not sure if the if
27:36
whoever was speaking was somewhere he said i may be restored to you sooner but we're going to find out
27:41
so basically he's saying that it is a blessing to have a leader a shepherd that cares
27:47
for the well-being of the sheep he pleases the chief shepherd jesus as told in john 21 17 listen to what
27:55
john jesus says to to peter after the resurrection he confronts
28:01
peter he said to him the third time and we read in john 21 17 simon son of john
28:08
do you love me and peter was grieved because he said to
28:13
him the third time do you love me and he said to him lord you know everything you know that i love you and jesus said to
28:20
him feed my sheep so jesus really wants the shepherd if
28:26
you're a shepherd you're a leader then you need to feed his ship because that's the greatest
28:32
gift that you could have been given by jesus and by god is the ability to be a leader
28:39
so the writer is encouraging his readers to not be a thorn for those leaders who are shepherding them as the lord will
28:45
have them so if you have a good shepherd if you have a good preacher if you have a good teacher if you have a good pastor
28:50
someone that really cares for you then don't be a thorn inside the scripture is telling you
28:56
encourage them do what is right don't don't don't be a thorn on their side
29:01
so a shepherd's a shepherd's chief purpose is to keep watch over the souls of the sheep
29:06
okay so if you have a preacher that gives you the word of god suddenly every day
29:12
every sunday you go to church if you have a teacher that wants to really teach you the word of god correctly that
29:18
is dividing the word of god correctly be glad because in that day and age it is not given there's a lot of false
29:24
teachers out there and this is what i'm saying is because leaders will have to give an account of
29:30
how they led god's people so being a minister an elder an overseer
29:35
is a serious matter and that must not be taken lightly and there's a strong warning against shepherd who care
29:41
nothing for the sheep under their care if you go to ezekiel 34 9-11 listen to
29:47
what the scripture says therefore shepherds hear the word of adonai
29:53
adonai elohim says i am against the shepherd i demand that they hand my
29:58
sheep back to me i will not allow them to feed the sheep and they won't feed themselves either
30:04
i'll rescue my sheep from their mouths they will be fooled for them no longer
30:10
for here is what adonai elohim says i am taking over i will search for my sheep
30:16
and look look after them myself the lord cared for a sheep and all and and all in
30:23
leadership positions should be completely aware of this prior to accepting their position now
30:28
you see what god says about his ship he really cares about his ship so if you're a shepherd and if you're a
30:34
leader you need to understand that and you have to be aware of it before you accept any position of leadership don't just say be
30:41
be enticed by the position i want to be a leader i want to be an elder i want to be a youth leader because you think it's
30:47
fun this is a serious matter and god does not want you to be a bad shepherd
30:53
he wants you to be a good shepherd so if you take on the role of a leader be aware that it comes
31:00
with a lot of a lot a lot of seriousness
31:05
now in verse um 18 to 19 and he's saying pray for us for we are sure that we have a clear conscience
31:12
desiring to act honorably in all things i urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that i may be restored to you
31:19
sooner now when you read verse 18 you can see how much and the writer cares not only for the
31:25
sheep under his care but also for sharing the word of god faithfully you see what he's saying pray for us so
31:31
we what he's saying he wants his reader to pray for him so that he continues to do all things with a clear conscience
31:38
because his chief purpose because he wants to please god in every way that's
31:43
his chief purpose now this ought to be the cry of every true uh shepherd of god we must
31:50
always seek to do all things with a clear conscience one that submits to the truth of god one
31:55
that does not violate the commands of god so i'm not sure if the writer was in jail or was being kept from seeing his
32:01
flock but obviously he wanted to he wanted so much to be reunited with his congregation
32:07
so so i said as a result he urged them to double up in in prayer
32:12
and what he shows us is that he truly cared for the well-being of the sheep and this ought to be the heart of every
32:19
true shepherd this is what you have to be like now in verses 20 21 he goes now with the
32:26
god of peace we brought again from the dead our lord jesus the great shepherd of the sheep by
32:31
the blood of the eternal covenant equip you with everything good that you may do his will
32:37
working in us that which is pleasing in his sight through jesus christ to whom be glory for ever and ever amen
32:44
now the benediction appears to bring together together all the major themes of the book of hebrews peace with
32:52
god the resurrection the resurrection of christ the blood the covenant and
32:57
spiritual maturity basically all these that we've mentioned are all into the last benediction
33:04
god's work in the believer first jesus christ has become a peace with god by his sacrifice
33:10
as we see in john 10 11 that he is the moral shepherd that gave his life for the sake
33:16
of the sheep that was lost the sheep of israel and then also the gentiles next
33:22
and he now leaves to enter seed for his sheep and after his resurrection from
33:27
the dead he sat down at the right hand of god and has been giving what the name that is above every name the name lord
33:33
and because of his blood shed on the cross the believer now has access into the tabernacle
33:39
erected by god in heaven forever not only that but god has also poured
33:45
his spirit into every every believer now you have the holy spirit living in you the jews first and the gentiles and this
33:51
has been a promise that was given in ezekiel 36 verse 26-27
33:56
the reason why god does that is so that we may do his will by working in us
34:02
to achieve that that is that which is pleasing in his sight through jesus christ basically this is all the picture
34:09
of the gospel from the from the beginning to the end peace with god the resurrection of
34:14
christ the blood the covenant and spiritual maturity and then god's working a believer through the holy
34:20
spirit so this is what the the writer wants us to to to to live with
34:25
and now he finishes um this with the exhortation which i just read to you in 22 and 23
34:34
that's just a final greeting he goes i appeal to you brothers bear with my word of exhortation for i
34:41
have written to you briefly you shall know that our brother timothy has been released with whom i shall see you if
34:47
you come soon with all your leaders and all the saints those who come from italy send your
34:53
greetings grace be with you all so again you say bear with my word of exaltation
35:00
say bear with it so please bear with it and he said i've written you briefly you
35:05
should know that our brother timothy has been released so this is why i say this is paul i wrote this letter again i may
35:10
be totally wrong this is just my own take on it it doesn't mean that this is true but i
35:15
believe this was written by paul again this is uh this was this book was amazing and i
35:23
will encourage you to also read the book of galatians because i think once you read galatians this makes even
35:29
more sense because you understand that in in the book of galatians paul was against the
35:34
judaizers some of the judaizers who we were promoting salvation by circumcision again there's nothing
35:42
wrong with circumcision because it was an outward sign to show that the people belong to god but
35:48
so many people misunderstood it and said to be saved you have to be circumcised
35:53
thus they did away with the work of christ on the cross now if you understand the the meaning of
36:00
circumcision and you want to do it that's fine but if you think by being circumcised you gain access to the holy
36:05
to to you have peace with god that is not true so again this is the same way you have
36:11
to look at the book of hebrews he is writing them to tell them the old covenant practices were always meant
36:17
to lead you to the messiah but if you think by doing those things you you have some form of peace with god
36:25
that is not the case this is what i at least i take away from these things but i would encourage you to go back and
36:30
read the entire book this has been a great book it has been a challenge for me
36:35
and i'm glad um i'm done now with it but i'm gonna go back and revisit it like
36:41
time and time and again and i'll encourage you to also watch uh other uh teachers especially dr baruch
36:48
carmen i like his teaching he's a messianic jew so he gives more meaning
36:53
to the to some of the things that i mentioned that we gentiles don't understand all right
36:58
again thanks for this and i wish you a wonderful day and i'll see you next time
37:04
thank you
