We just looked at 1 John 2:7-14 and in those verses, the apostle John put a huge emphasis on loving other brothers and sisters in Christ. As a matter of fact He said that not loving another brother or sister in Christ is a clear sign that one is still unsaved ( walking in the dark). He ended up that portion of the Scriptures by naming the people to whom he was writing. And we said that he did it to make sure his message reached the ears of the right people. We also recalled that the church had been infiltrated with false teachers who were promoting licentious living. So when John wrote this letter, he wanted to make sure that the people group that would read the letters would be able to tell the difference between genuine believers and frauds.
