0:00
good morning um McKenzie and Bako has
0:03
been uh had a had a rough go of over the
0:05
last couple games um what have you kind
0:07
of assess to be the thing that needs to
0:10
be fixed and you know what approach have
0:12
you taken with him and practice to get
0:13
him where you want him to be he's got to
0:15
keep working through it you know I mean
0:17
he's you know he's taken some good shots
0:20
and he's just hadn't made them and
0:25
um so I just got it I'm not going to
0:28
throw him to the curve because he's a
0:29
big piece of what we do uh this is
0:32
echoing too Charlie by the way okay um
0:37
but we just got to keep working man
0:39
practice that's the only way you get out
0:41
of a funk is when you're struggling to
0:44
to make shots you got to come in and put
0:47
the time in and keep shooting and and
0:49
keep working on it Jack and then
0:53
Mike Mike um how much have Malik and and
0:56
Bryson Tucker been able to practice
0:58
lately since the last game and uh do you
1:00
expect to have either of them back uh
1:01
tomorrow well A lot's going to depend on
1:04
Malik today he worked some yesterday uh
1:09
uh Tucker worked a little
1:11
yesterday um so we just I'll gauge it
1:14
today we got a 12 o'clock practice
1:16
before we take off so I'll get a better
1:19
feel of where Malik and Bryson is at
1:22
this point n and then
1:26
Schuman part
1:28
me yeah Mike um have you seen um
1:32
consistency from from the guys in
1:34
practice I mean you've got you know been
1:35
up and down lately in games but have you
1:37
just kind of seen them Be steady behind
1:39
the scenes what what has kind of been
1:41
like the last couple weeks uh for you
1:43
guys as as you guys kind of practiced
1:45
through some of the
1:46
struggles well practice is is what it is
1:49
we work in practice you know there's no
1:52
days off you know they get their days
1:54
based on the
1:56
NCAA uh mandate that allows them a day
2:00
so many days a month but when we had
2:03
practice we work you know I mean you
2:06
know we've had a couple of bad games we
2:08
went on a nice five game stretch where
2:11
we played pretty good
2:12
basketball and then we got smacked in
2:14
the face two games and we responded I
2:17
thought in the Ohio State game and now
2:20
we got to get ready for Northwestern
2:23
who's playing some pretty good
2:25
basketball Mike and then Alex yeah coach
2:28
uh I I remember game last year against
2:31
Kennesaw State where you turned to
2:32
Anthony Leo in the second half when that
2:34
the game was kind of uncomfortable and
2:37
seemed like you did that again last
2:38
night or uh Friday night what makes him
2:41
a guy that you turn to in situations
2:43
like that well he's a
2:46
senior um you know he puts the time in
2:50
in practice when we when we going
2:53
through our practicing sessions um and I
2:57
trust him you know I mean that's that's
3:00
a big part of it and it's not to say
3:03
he's going to come in and make every
3:05
play that you ask him to make but when
3:08
you do throw him in you trust him and
3:10
you know you're going to get winning
3:12
plays and that's you know that's
3:15
important when you when you're trying to
3:17
win basketball games you know you got to
3:19
trust the players that you put out there
3:20
and they got to trust you and uh and
3:23
Anthony's kind of been that way uh since
3:26
I've been coaching him hadn't played a
3:28
whole lot but you know I I still trust
3:31
the minutes when I throw him out there
3:32
that he's going to give me something
3:35
positive Alex and then
3:39
flick the last four games you guys I
3:41
think are 20 for 75 26.6% on threes what
3:46
do what do you feel like the the issue
3:48
there is with the three-point shooting
3:50
and the consistency it's been something
3:52
that you know obviously it's been
3:53
persistent over the last couple years
3:55
what do you maybe uh when you watch film
3:57
and you talk to these guys what do you
3:59
think maybe the issue there is just with
4:00
the consistency well early on WE
4:03
struggled and then I thought we figured
4:05
it out we got our percentage up to about
4:08
36 37% so I was feeling pretty good
4:11
about that and then we we hit a wall
4:15
again you know and I mean we're not
4:16
doing anything differently we shoot them
4:20
we you know guys just got to be
4:23
comfortable man I got to get them more
4:25
comfortable in making them because we
4:26
are getting some good looks and uh uh
4:30
especially from Key guys that you know
4:32
we expect to make them and U you know we
4:35
just got to keep working that's all you
4:37
can
4:38
do Daniel then
4:41
rabie Kenzie obviously had a lot of
4:44
stretches here the last few weeks where
4:47
he just kind of hasn't been on the floor
4:49
I'm curious is there anything apart from
4:51
the scoring aspect of it that you'd like
4:53
to see him improve at and just kind of
4:55
how have you kind of seen him handle the
4:57
last I guess week or two here well you
4:59
games he's been in he's got in foul
5:01
trouble and and then the game up at Ohio
5:05
State hell we just you listen man I'm
5:08
trying to win basketball games and it
5:11
ain't always the player you know the
5:13
players got to adjust to to how you
5:15
coaching in the game and um you know we
5:19
had a group in there that was pretty
5:21
solid so if you're about team it
5:24
shouldn't matter you know I mean it
5:26
could be your night the Northwestern
5:29
game when we play on Wednesday night so
5:32
I mean you know we we'll we'll keep
5:34
working with him we got to get him back
5:36
going because like I said he is a big
5:38
piece to what we
5:39
do
5:41
Jeff morning coach thanks for your time
5:44
uh on Luke goody uh since he's moved
5:47
into the starting lineup I think he's
5:48
somewhere around 12 points per game
5:50
shooting fairly well what are your
5:52
thoughts on why he's been productive and
5:55
then when you guys return to full
5:56
strength how are you going to manage do
5:58
I keep him a starter or do I start
6:00
bringing him off the bench don't know
6:02
what I'm going to do yet as far as
6:04
that's concerned but you know goody has
6:07
some of the same looks early in the
6:09
season that he was struggling to make
6:11
and you know he's found his rhythm
6:14
and uh the other night he was bigger
6:18
than ever it's the most points he's ever
6:20
scored in a college game and um you know
6:24
and I tip my hat to him because he works
6:26
I mean he comes to work every day he
6:28
helps leads
6:30
uh uh you know he does everything you
6:34
want in a player uh and you expect that
6:37
because again he's a senior he's been
6:39
around and he's done it at Illinois and
6:43
uh so we expect him to do it here so I'm
6:46
I'm very pleased you know in terms of
6:48
how he's been playn and we're going to
6:50
need him to continue to grow and and and
6:53
play at that level to help us win games
6:56
two more here we'll go with Seth and
6:58
then Alex
7:01
yeah Mike you you've always held
7:02
particularly high expectations for your
7:04
seniors uh G Trey G has dealt with some
7:07
inconsistency so far this season just
7:09
how would you assess what you've gotten
7:11
from out of him so far this year and
7:13
where could he step up a little more for
7:14
you again I'm not you know Trey Galloway
7:18
came off a major knee surgery probably a
7:22
knee surgery that probably takes a
7:24
little over a year to to bounce back and
7:28
you know he's been he's given us all
7:30
he's got I mean I I can't complain about
7:32
Trey Trey Trey's been a Workhorse over
7:35
the years for me uh you know I've gotten
7:38
on Trey probably more than anybody
7:40
that's still left on this team and um I
7:44
love everything about him uh because I
7:46
do know he tries his best when he's out
7:48
there on the floor and you know he's had
7:51
his ups and downs but hey I I'm I'm I'm
7:56
willing to go to war with him every time
7:57
he steps out on the floor so
8:00
I'm good with Trey you know he'll he'll
8:02
figure it out as we continue to go I
8:05
mean he hadn't played bad basketball I
8:07
think he's been pretty pretty good off
8:09
and on for us and he's helped us win
8:11
some games and we're going to need him
8:14
uh to stay positive and and keep working
8:17
because that's what he does when he's in
8:19
practice and a lot of that you see in
8:21
the game sometime because he plays
8:24
hard last question
8:27
Alex you guys obviously play I think
8:29
Northwestern four times since you've
8:31
been there the four games have been
8:32
decided by a total of 15 so it's been a
8:34
lot of close games what what makes them
8:37
such a tough matchup and what do you
8:38
kind of see as the keys going into
8:40
tomorrow's game they play hard I
8:42
mean Coach Collins he he pushes those
8:45
guys to to play hard and we've had some
8:49
close games with them and and and hav't
8:53
been able to get over the top and you
8:55
know like like I tell our guys you know
8:57
before they get on this plane the day to
8:59
head up to Chicago you can't go in there
9:02
with a with a a soft attitude and soft
9:06
mind because I mean they GNA force you
9:09
to play hard and you got to meet that
9:12
you got to meet that physicality because
9:15
if you don't it could be a long night
9:17
and that's where I think the game is
9:19
going to be won tomorrow uh both teams
9:22
you know I think we play hard at times I
9:25
just got to get us playing harder you
9:28
know for 40 minutes
9:30
consistently and um you know they've had
9:34
their ups and downs as a team this
9:35
season as well but um when you go on the
9:39
road you got to do everything right man
9:41
I mean it's hard winning on the road and
9:43
can't turn it over got to Rebound with
9:46
them and and um you got to make shots I
9:49
mean that's the key ingredient man and
9:52
win the 50-50 game so um we'll see where
9:56
we are come tomorrow
9:58
night all right thanks everybody we'll
10:00
see you guys Wednesday
