Someshwara Beach in Mangalore
Someshwara Beach, Mangalore Someshwara Beach, located in Ullal, about 9 km south of Mangalore city, is one of the most scenic and serene beaches along the Karnataka coast. The beach is known for its golden sands, large natural rock formations called “Rudra Shile” (rocks of Lord Shiva), and mesmerizing sunsets over the Arabian Sea. The beach gets its name from the ancient Someshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which stands on a rocky hill overlooking the sea. The temple is believed to have been built several centuries ago during the Chola dynasty period, making it an important spiritual and historical landmark. Though the beach’s rocky terrain and strong undercurrents make it unsafe for swimming, it remains a popular spot for sightseeing, photography, and quiet reflection. The nearby Ottinene Hill viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, adding to the beach’s natural charm and cultural significance.
