What is Pilikula Nisargadhama Pilikula Nisargadhama is an eco‐tourism complex near Mangalore, in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The name “Pilikula” comes from Tulu, where “pili” means tiger and “kula” means lake – legend says tigers used to come to this lake to drink water. The project was started around 1990 by the local administration to conserve biodiversity and promote awareness of the cultures and heritage of the coastal Karnataka / Western Ghats region. You can do boating (pedal boats or larger boats) and enjoy the lakeside ambience. Biological Park (Zoo)Spread over about 150 acres. Recognized by the Central Zoo Authority. Houses ~1,200 animals of ~120 species including mammals, birds, reptiles. Emphasis on animals of the Western Ghats. King cobra breeding is also done here. Botanical Garden & ArboretumConservation of plant species, especially those endemic or rare in Western Ghats. Greenhouse, orchidariums, a plant nursery. Also used as an education tool.
