Marines with 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) conduct a close air support exercise with Marine Fighter Attack Squadrons VMFA-242 and VMFA-232 at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan on May 18, 2021. 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) are an elite United States Marines Corps unit tasked with calling in air strikes and artillery fires in support of their attached units. In this video Marines were using data Link 16 network. Link 16 is an encrypted, jam-resistant Tactical Data Link network used by U.S. and NATO Allies to create situational awareness among different battle elements by transmitting information over a shared comm link. This enables the command and control centers to create Common Operating Pictures, which allows friendly forces to electronically observe the battlespace, identify threats, and acquire targets.
