When we consider early American history, it's always the Founding Fathers who come to mind. Sure, you might know a thing or two about Abigail Adams, but what of the American Revolution's other leading ladies? 18th century America was definitely a different time when it came to the place of women in society. Most women had a background role, supporting their husbands, who were often removed from the home to fight. But when you look closely, you find that women were present as nurses, spies, scouts, and even soldiers. Some even earned pensions for their service. We'll fill in some of the gaps now, with lesser-known heroines of the American Revolution.
