Hi, my name is Nick Drain. I'm a PGA professional and master fitting specialist
0:08
here at the Titles Performance Centre at Woburn. In this video we're going to talk about
0:12
how to start pushing your irons. The fundamentals within your setup are going to help you
0:16
deliver the club in the correct fashion to hit the golf ball in your right direction
0:21
A lot of the time I see incorrect setup position primarily around ball position
0:25
So if I demonstrate for you now, if I have the ball position too far, if I have the ball position too
0:29
far back in my stance, that's going to cause the club to swing out to the right with the club
0:35
face open primarily and it's going to allow the ball to stay right of my target. Ideally what we'd
0:40
like to see is the ball just left of middle. So as I come into the golf ball, my club is now swinging
0:48
more towards my target with the club face squared in my path and then I can start it at my target
0:54
with a much straighter golf shot. One key part of being able to hit your irons in the right direction
0:59
is being properly fit for them. So you're PGA professional, so they can fit you accordingly for your right lie angle
1:04
which is going to help you with a tighter shot dispersion I now going to demonstrate to you what happens if the ball position is too far back in my stance You see my target the flag out in front but I now show you into my setup
1:20
My shoulders are now aligned a long way to the right of my target. If I put the ball position just left of middle where I ideally want it
1:30
my shoulders are now properly aligned, I can go ahead and hit the shot at my target
1:36
As you can see, that ball flew towards my target
1:46
The golf swing hasn't changed, but I've made sure that my fundamentals are correct
1:49
A really simple exercise you can do to keep an eye on your fundamentals and your ball position
1:54
is with a couple of alignment sticks, or a couple of golf clubs will do as well, is pop one
1:58
down parallel to your feet, and then I've got my other alignment stick relative to my ball position
2:03
So as you'll see here, it is just left of middle and it's going to ensure that I have the correct ball position every single time
