It's like I've been answering that question for 25 years
0:05
I have a 21-year-old son and I'm like, honestly, are you still asking, you're still asking me this question
0:13
It's so exciting to meet you. Nice to meet you. Welcome to the UK. Welcome to Heart as well
0:18
Thank you. What have you done since you've been here in the UK? We basically, you know, walk to our favorite restaurants, see our friends, go to our favorite pub
0:27
That kind of thing. You have your locals. yeah yeah favorites you know i always say if i was to live anywhere in england i would live in
0:34
up somewhere yeah oh nice yeah congratulations by the way on running point i think this is
0:42
incredible it's funny there's an underlining story as well it looks like so much fun it's so fun
0:48
loosely based on genie bus's life so genie bus who's the president of the lakers she went to
0:53
Mindy and was like my life in the office is like a comedy and I think it would be a great comedy
1:01
and Mindy who wrote for the American office um was like oh my gosh thank you so much um and now
1:09
here we are though it came across brilliantly and exactly I think like how she wanted and your
1:13
character by the way Isla what a boss yeah she tries to figure it out she's like whilst being
1:22
undermined the whole way right i mean yeah especially because it's her brothers it's the
1:27
one thing people of course always like to bring in like what is it about your life that's like
1:32
isla and i'm like nothing like i i'm actually very different than isla like a per like personality
1:37
wise yeah but the dynamic of three brothers and being the only girl is my life and just if i had
1:46
to work with my brothers like in that capacity i totally understand that dynamic yeah yeah i mean
1:52
they would shut me out all the time. And by the way, they wouldn't always be wrong
1:59
How would you deal with that though? So like being undermined in life, like I mean you're hugely successful
2:04
in like everything. Producer, actress, singer, mother, like the list goes on
2:10
So how do you deal with being underestimated in life How do you get over those moments I think the best way is to just not be afraid to give your opinion and and not take it too harshly when it you know maybe not the opinion that gets
2:26
moved forward yeah right yeah because it it takes time and be confident in what you are doing that's
2:34
right that that's the best way is confidence in yourself and you don't need to be too confident
2:38
And Mindy said something great the other day when we were doing an interview, which is confidence is really something that like there are certain people that are born being OK in the room and navigating like a space
2:52
Let's just use this show as an example, as one woman in a room full of guys like Mindy was the only female writer on the American office writing team
3:03
But she really like thrived in that environment, whereas some women don't
3:09
It's harder for them to find their voice. But you kind of you have to create space for that because we're not all built the same
3:19
Yeah. And, you know, confidence comes with being given opportunity. And we have to give other people, those of us who are more confident in those spaces
3:28
like we have to give everyone the opportunity to feel the confidence like 100 yeah and yeah and
3:35
and um so it's also about finding the people that inspire you and and like like lift you up
3:42
yeah yeah surrounding yourself with good people along the way i think it's hugely important
3:47
i really do i remember someone saying one time um i don't like the word empowerment because it
3:53
means someone else is in charge of empowering you and i was like i don't know where i would be if i
4:00
didn't have certain people empowering me sometimes and i think that some people just don't need it
4:08
yeah you know yeah and uh but for me i'm like oh i needed there were definitely times where i needed
4:13
support like real yeah same same confidence support yeah no 100 with you right can we talk
4:20
outfits in this show yeah yeah because hon you got me you really are that babe i loved it you just
4:27
you just had everything it was just everything complimented everything if you know what i mean did you get to keep any of those outfits was it in your contract Did you say no these are mine afterwards I think I did actually keep a couple things But we also I just had to make sure
4:42
that we knew where they were. I usually like to take my jewelry. We've got a little part in this show
4:49
where we like to call, please stop asking me. A little bit of fun
4:53
Oh, I love this. So this is the question. There's so many. Right? That you always get asked
4:58
And it doesn't mean that the question is good or bad. It's just, okay, we're done now. I've answered this a lot
5:02
Mine is, what kind of advice do your parents give you? Right
5:07
Because it's like, I've been answering that question for 25 years. And then you're like a mother of three
5:15
I have a 21-year-old son. And I'm like, honestly, are you still asking
5:21
You're still asking me this question? We're done. We're done. It's like, you know, there's so many more interesting questions
5:28
By the way, in the same, you know, what is the relationship like with your mother now that da-da-da
5:36
There's so many more interesting things. Exactly. But advice. Yeah, I know
5:41
You're like, what? I've been doing this now for 25 years. Like that's something that you would ask a young kid growing up
5:50
Correct. You know, and now entering the industry. Not like, you know, 100 years later
5:56
Not in midlife. we actually asked around the office out there um to some that might actually come up a lot for you
6:05
okay and uh yeah so whether you agree with these or not we've got did you think that yellow dress
6:10
would become so iconic and have you managed to track it down oh i've gotten that a lot but i'm
6:16
not mad at that i'm not that i'm fine with because i because it's so fun and i love talking about
6:22
that movie and the and our costume designer karen patch who and carolina herrera who um helped
6:29
design it it was like because it was still trending last year i mean that dress is it is
6:34
insane we were actually having a look weren't we you know what really made that dress go on
6:40
is where it fell in the back there was a beautiful you know thing but it was the color and there's
6:46
something about it was very specific like where it was like very it very low She sort of classic but then you know I think that that what I loved about that dress
6:58
Also, another one that comes up is, do you want people to stop asking if your family are ever going to do
7:04
Yeah, that's a thing. Yes, a reality TV show. How many times
7:08
All the time. Yeah. We get asked that all the time. Yep. The thing is, it would be hilarious
7:13
Yeah. If I think about how insane it would be, it would be, you know, I think there is a very inside thing in my family that people would, it would be, you know, we're so, we're all so wildly different
7:31
But we're also, also codependent on each other. We love each other so much
7:35
Our family's like wild, you know. And, yeah, it would definitely be different
7:43
yeah fine but it's not coming anytime soon no it would never happen but before you go can we can
7:50
we talk music yeah i would love to i'm really excited about this okay so your new album
7:55
chorus deluxe deluxe hello two new add-ons tracks i found out that you were a singer last year
8:02
okay and then i started delving into you into that side because i know you as a film star yeah
8:06
And I'm like, wow, you've been hiding this angelic voice. But it's also got pop
8:13
It's rock as well. It's got a little bit of country tone to it. Seriously, it's stunning
8:18
Thank you. We need more. Are you going to come and do a tour or something? Oh, yeah. Let's get the tape
8:22
I have to like, at some point, you know, I've got a lot of things happening
8:28
But I just love to sing. You capture us, basically. You really do
8:32
Look, I want to see you coming here. You're making my heart tickle. I'm like, oh
8:36
thank you I'm just loving being in your presence you just ooze everything
8:40
that you know us other women just aspire to be and we just look up to
8:45
and I just think that you know you're just doing everything right come to the UK more please come and do some gigs yes
8:50
and congratulations on Running Point thank you I can't wait for everyone to see it on the 27th 27th
8:55
