Why is my background black on my Word document?

One of the most common reasons for a black page background in Word is that a black fill or shading has been applied to the page background. This can be done intentionally by selecting ‘Page Color’ under the Design tab and choosing a black fill. It can also happen accidentally by selecting all (Ctrl+A) and applying shading or fill effects.
