Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. This is Austin from A Man In His Gear. Hey, today we are
0:04
actually having a really exciting product that we're going to talk about. Have you ever wanted
0:08
a smart safe that you can easily access but also looks really, really good on your counter or desk
0:14
or anything like that? Well, today we're going to be talking about an awesome candidate for that
0:19
and that is going to be the Koenig 1.0. The Koenig 1.0 may be familiar as it used to be called the
0:25
Gunbox 2.0 so this actually was a product that I had reviewed in the past as the Gunbox 2.0
0:31
this is actually an updated version where it combines some of the features of a couple different
0:36
of their products into one and I'm gonna go ahead and review it and let you guys know my thoughts so
0:41
the major concerns I had when I reviewed this product five years ago was that they didn't
0:46
combine the features of their two different versions they had a biometric version and then
0:51
they had a keypad version and you had to buy it separately and they weren't combined
0:55
So you could either have a keypad or you could have a biometric and it just didn't quite make
0:59
so much sense to me. So this version, they actually combined both of them. So this one
1:03
you can get in via an RFID. You can get in via biometric and keypad. All of these are different
1:09
ways that you can get into this safe. So let's go ahead and get into the review and I'll show you
1:14
everything you need to know about the Koenig 1.0. As I alluded to, the Koenig 1.0 does have many
1:20
different ways of accessing it. So when you get into the box the first time, you'll see a bunch
1:24
of different accessories for it. You will see these key fobs. So these basically these key fobs
1:29
have an RFID chip in them. You get two different ones of those and you get this credit card looking
1:34
thing. So basically this is an RFID chip inside this card that allows you to gain access. You also
1:38
have the keypad right here and then you have the biometric right here. So the Koenig 1.0 is an
1:45
aluminum-bodied safe as well, which is actually rare in the industry. There really aren't
1:49
really any other aluminum-bodied safes that I can think of, especially in the smart safe sector
1:54
This is a high-end product. It sits around $300. So if you were wanting to get this
1:59
there's not a ton of high-end competitors out there. We'll talk about competitors a little bit
2:05
later in the video. But this is also the only safe, honestly, that looks great. This safe
2:11
Honestly, it has a kind of a metallic kind of silver color to it
2:17
It actually kind of looks more like a hard drive or like some kind of electronic rather than a safe
2:22
which in itself is actually a really nice feature. So other features of the safe are that it can charge multiple of your devices
2:29
So you can actually plug your devices into the back here and it will charge up devices
2:34
And then it also does have an anchor port on the back as well. We'll talk about that in a minute
2:38
But inside of the safe, you also have a lot of really nice features. As you can see when I opened it up
2:43
that you have two gas struts here so it is an auto It a soft auto so it doesn like spring open like a lot of the other safes out there that auto It uses gas struts which are really great and I like that The interior of the safe is kind of a rubbery feel so basically when you
3:00
put firearms in here or other electronics or something like that, you don't have to worry
3:04
about them getting damaged on the metal, which is really nice. Outside of that, there aren't a ton
3:08
of features, other than you do find some anchor holes down here, so they are not drilled all the
3:14
way through, you would need to complete the drill, but there are some divots down there to give you kind of a guide point
3:18
So before we talk about what I do and I don't like about the safe, I want to talk about
3:22
the differences between the old version that I reviewed and this one. So the major differences is like I had talked about earlier is it does combine the biometric
3:30
and the keypad, which is awesome. That was one of my biggest complaints
3:34
The other thing was the fact that the gas struts on the one that I had didn't like to
3:38
open every single time. it would take it kind of partially open and then it would wait and then it would pop open this safe
3:44
doesn't do that they didn't fix that that is a much better quality control issue that they did
3:48
fix the old one you could immediately touch the keypad um this safe you have to push the
3:54
the koenig logo in the middle wait for it to go blue and then put in your code and it'll open i
4:00
think why they did that is so that they didn't so people didn't accidentally open the safe like a
4:05
with an RFID or whatever, it's just an added step. I don't super like that, because it does make one more step
4:12
for you to open the safe, but you know, hey, it's what it is
4:16
Another change from the Gun Box 2.0 I had reviewed before is it actually changed how they do the biometrics
4:22
So the old one actually looked like, kind of like a white little plastic thing
4:26
and that one actually took pictures of your fingerprint and not actually scanned it
4:30
So basically, it would take a picture of your fingerprints and then compare it to the fingerprint that it has on file
4:35
and it would open the safe if it matched. Instead, they changed out the fingerprint scanner
4:38
so this is actually a much nicer one. It actually pays attention to the ridges and like valleys of your fingerprint
4:44
So it's a little bit more reliable, and it also makes it so it's a little bit easier to access
4:47
if you have, say, you're working out and you had sweat on your fingers
4:51
or you had some kind of water on your finger or something like that
4:55
The old one would have a little bit of issues of getting you in. This one, again, pays attention to the ridges
4:59
and valleys of your fingerprint, so it's more reliable even if you have wet fingers or anything like that
5:04
So that is another major difference between the two. Again, one more thing before we jump into kind of my thoughts finally of the safe
5:10
is that Gunbox did change their name over the clinic. This is the same product as the updated version of the Gunbox 2.0
5:17
They did for a short period have this safe under the Gunbox name. However, they changed their name because they realized that people were using their safe
5:24
without using it for firearms. So they were using it for electronics, valuables, that kind of stuff
5:30
just because it does have the styling not of a gun safe. A lot of people are buying this for their valuables rather than firearms So changing their name over to something named Koenig made a lot more sense and made it so that they get branded a little bit better So that why they changed it from Gunbox to Koenig
5:45
So finally, my thoughts on this safe. So what do I like? Honestly, the first thing that stands out
5:50
really is the styling. This really is the best looking safe on the market
5:54
They're just hands down. So no one else is really going through the effort to be able to make something that just looks really nice
5:59
Sure, the, you know, like other competitors, they do look nice and look cool
6:03
but this is the only one that I would put on a countertop. This is the only one I would put on a desk
6:08
or I would have ever once seen in any way. So if you are wanting something like that
6:12
this is an awesome option, really the only option for a safe that's actually gonna look nice on a countertop
6:17
Again, if you're putting on a countertop, make sure you anchor it down, or at least use the anchor cable
6:21
Another thing that I like about this safe that a lot of other safes don't have is access points
6:25
We had talked about it a couple different times. There are many different ways to access this safe
6:29
and I really do like that. So if you do want those multiple access points, this is an awesome safe for you
6:35
Another thing comes down to build quality. This thing is fantastic. The paintwork is awesome
6:41
It looks really, really nice. Everything about it, even on the bottom, on the top, inside, everything is super well done
6:47
That gastra issue was fixed. And I just really, really like this safe
6:51
There isn't a safe that looks better and nicer out there. If you're looking for a nice safe, this just really is it
6:57
So, you know, everything has its downsides. what do I not like about this safe? The first thing that I don't like is honestly there's no
7:04
phone access for this safe. So other competitors on the market actually can access their safe with
7:10
a phone application and this safe doesn't have that. It is a smart safe and it is an expensive
7:15
smart safe. So I really do feel like they should have phone access to be able to get into this safe
7:20
They do have an application coming out soon that they're telling me will allow you to be able to
7:25
check you know like tamper alerts and that kind of stuff and I'm going to bet
7:29
at some point they'll probably come out with a feature where I'll have a firmware update for this that you can access it via the phone application but
7:36
at the moment they don't have that and that honestly is a big downside the
7:40
competitors it is really nice that you can just open it whenever you want
7:44
wherever you want so if you had somebody that needed in the safe and say you were
7:47
out of state you could open it with your phone no matter where in the world you are and honestly the only other thing I don't like about this safe is that it
7:54
doesn't come with an anchor cable. For some reason, I think the old version came with an anchor cable
7:59
and this one does not, which doesn't make sense to me considering that's going to be the way that
8:03
most people do get into the safe and especially at this budget, not having the anchor cable there
8:07
just honestly doesn't make sense. It really should come with that instead of making you buy it
8:12
yourself. All right, I promised you guys earlier in this video that I would show you all the
8:15
different ways to get into the safe. So the first one is the biometric. I will say I don't actually
8:20
personally like using fingerprint scanners. However this one is a high quality one but if you wanted to see how that works there are plenty of videos out there to be able to show you how to do that so I not going to show you how to do that in this video and I apologize for that I just don like using fingerprint scanners however I can understand a lot of people that do
8:36
so if you do want a good fingerprint scanner again this is the upgraded version and it is a great
8:40
lock anyways so what you also have are RFID as I kind of discussed before all you do with this one
8:48
is you push the the Koenig logo right there and then you hold your RFID and it pops right open
8:53
which is really, really awesome. So it's easy to use, quick to use, and RFID is something that not
9:00
a lot of other safes do have. And it's a nice addition to this safe. So the next thing is
9:05
actually probably what I would personally use the most is that keypad. So again, all you do is you
9:10
just tap the logo, and then you just type in one, two, three, four, five, and it pops right open
9:15
I think there was one time where I was using the keypad, and for some reason, I think I did one
9:19
two, three, and then the last two digits didn't show, but you know, I haven't been able to get to
9:25
do that again. But so as far as I can tell, this keypad is an awesome lock and just really doesn't
9:31
have such a high failure rate. And so it is really high quality. So my final thoughts on this safe
9:37
if you are looking for a smart safe, there really are only this safe and the main competitor is
9:43
going to be the Voltec. I think it's the VS series. That one does allow you to access the safe via a
9:49
phone. So if accessing your safe via a phone is important to you, this may not be the greatest
9:54
option for you. You might want to go with that Voltec. However, if you want a really nice safe
9:58
that's really high quality and looks great and works really, really well, has a good capacity
10:03
all that kind of stuff, you really should consider the Koenig 1.0. There's not many downsides to the
10:07
safe that I can think of. And if you are looking for something that's reliable, high quality, and
10:12
just a good product overall, I really do like this Koenig 1.0 and I would highly recommend it. And
10:17
And if you are in that budget range, I do recommend it. So if this is something that you want to buy, I will have an affiliate link down in the description
10:25
I do recommend clicking on it and see if it's something that you want to purchase
10:29
The Koenig 1.0 just really is an awesome safe. Anyways, so if you did like this video and it has been helpful for you to you in any
10:36
way, I do ask that you subscribe so that you can see other videos as they come out
10:39
We do a ton of different reviews around men's gear, including security products and gun safes
10:44
and that kind of stuff. do recommend checking it out and subscribing. I do also ask if you like the video. It helps with
10:49
the algorithm and showing other people on YouTube this video. If you found it all helpful, maybe it'll
10:54
help them out as well. So that is it for today. I invite you to go down into the comments and let
10:58
me know your thoughts on this safe. Is this something you would buy? Is this something you'd buy for a friend or a family member or anything like that? Let me know what you guys think. I do
11:06
invite that and I think it's awesome to be able to talk with you guys. So let me know if you have any questions down in the comments about the safe. I'd be happy to test things out and see if
11:15
I can answer any questions that you guys have. I hope you guys have a great one
