So the weekend, we've missed the Premier League
0:02
OK, so we had it during the week, but over the weekend, it's been a while. Clive Allen will go through some of the results
0:07
and what we think is going to be the results with us. Clive, it's not a weekend without the Premier League, is it
0:14
No, it's back. And I think everybody's really excited about it. Yes, there were midweek games
0:20
but there is so much to play for with the run into the end of the season now
0:25
I think we can now say in April, it's the business end of the season
0:31
Right, let's start with the first game then, which is Everton against Arsenal
0:35
So Everton are down in 15th. Although there's a good feeling around at the moment
0:40
With the new stadium and David Moyes, and OK, they lost to Liverpool in the week
0:44
although it was very close. And then you've got Arsenal second, who, let's face it
0:50
they're not going to win the Premier League. It's going to be the old close but no cigar
0:56
So this one is at Goodison. So Arsenal's last game at Curtis before they moved to the new stadium
1:00
What do you make on that one? I think this is a great game. I really do
1:04
I think Everton defended resiliently against Liverpool. It was so vital. Liverpool got that result midweek
1:11
and they opened up that gap again with Arsenal. It's a must-win game for Arsenal
1:16
A really difficult game. I would say a revived Everton under David Moyes
1:20
He's done a magnificent job there. He's talking and I've listened to him saying
1:26
And he won't go to the new stadium until he knows Everton are Premier League side next year
1:30
I think there's no... Yeah, I think he won't go and visit the new stadium
1:34
until he knows he can take them back there as a Premier League side
1:38
So, you know what, Paul? I think, I believe, that this might be the end of the Premier League season for Arsenal
1:45
I'm going to go Everton 1, a really hard full game. Everton 1, Arsenal 0
1:52
Wow. See, I'm going 1-1. I've got a feeling Arsenal are going to win it
1:56
either. They've got, of course, Real Madrid in the week. Now, this is interesting. Saka's back
2:00
Gabriel being out. Now, that really is going to affect them. And I know you've got to take each
2:08
game and all those sort of cliches around football, but Real Madrid's going to be on their mind
2:12
because that's the really big one. That's the trophy that they know they stand a chance of
2:17
winning, because let's face it, I mean, you would think that the Premier League is up now
2:22
Yeah, and Gabriel's absence, I think, is going to be absolutely massive. He's been a rock at the heart of their defence
2:28
You know, he picked up a hamstring injury. I can't see, I think it'll be a miracle if he's available
2:33
for even the Champions League game. So, massive blow. I know Saka's return was a big lift for everybody and he scored
2:43
But I just think that, you know, that back four hasn't been disrupted
2:48
really, all season. and with Gabriel out now, I think that is going to be a big blow for Arsenal
2:53
Right. Everton win for you, draw for me. Next game then, Crystal Palace against Brighton
2:58
I always love the fact of the rivalry and you know, obviously you work with Terry Venables
3:04
and it was, do you know the true story? It was like the Venables and Alan Muller
3:09
and two people we know very well that started this, right? Yeah, way, way back
3:15
Yeah, there were some words about the two clubs that the manager said, and ever since then
3:21
it's been one of the fiercest rivalries in football. They dislike one another, both clubs
3:28
and it is always, always, you know, a really spicy derby game
3:35
They consider it a derby game, Brighton on the south coast, Palace South London, and it's two teams that have gone well this season
3:43
two teams that have you know had obviously Palace great cut run Brighton disappointing result midweek against Villa you got to say And I just think Palace are buoyant at the moment with the cut run they having
3:56
with the form they're finding. And I'm going to go for Palace to edge it 2-1, but it's going to be close
4:02
I've got 2-1 as well. And also the fact they drew with Southampton. I mean, that's a bizarre result, wasn't it, really
4:08
You would have surely thought the Palace would have beaten them in a week. Yeah, went behind at Southampton, a surprise
4:14
and then a very, very late equaliser. But again, Palace have got
4:18
they've found a little bit of, I think they're really together as a group
4:22
It's a really vibrant club at the moment. Again, I always say it because of their FA Cup run
4:28
That has just lifted everybody. So yeah, I think Palace at home against Brighton
4:33
who were beaten heavily by Villa, 2-1 Palace. I'm with you on that
4:37
Huge game at the bottom now, Ipswich against Wolves. So a great result for them, beating Bournemouth
4:43
but it's going to be too little too late. You would have thought Wolves very close to surviving now
4:52
So 18th Ipswich on 20 points and then you've got nine points
4:56
Wolves are above them. It's going to be tough for Ipswich but absolutely must win
5:01
and at Portman Road as well. Yeah, you know, you say we hear the six-pointer
5:08
This is a massive, massive game for it. If they have any hope, they have to win this game
5:14
And I think it's a no-lose game for Wolves. They just cannot afford to lose it
5:21
So I'm going to sit right on the fence. I think it's going to be a really, really tight game. I'm going to go Ipswich 1, Wolves 1
5:28
I'm there again. I've got exactly the same. I'll have to go first next time because everybody's thinking I'm copying you
5:33
But yeah, Ipswich 1, Wolves 1. I've got the same as you. Excuse me
5:37
Right. West Ham against Bournemouth. 16. Now, Bournemouth, there was a thing that was in, I saw this in the Times in the week
5:45
and I just thought it was a great quote about Bournemouth, and whoever wrote it said they're like a team with a slow puncture
5:51
because they've been brilliantly and the tyres have been great, but it just seems to be the air
5:57
just seems to be coming out of that tyre really slowly, because they're just having this strange run at the moment
6:04
West Ham, never know what you're going to get with them, what do you reckon on that? Yeah, I think you're right. I think Bournemouth running out of steam. A good season. I thought they were very impressive at Tottenham a few weeks ago. West Ham, I still think Graham Potter's taking his time to assess the group of players he's got, getting them playing the way that he wants them to play
6:24
but I just think now Bournemouth they you know heady heights that they reached
6:29
and all of a sudden possibility of European football which is still there for them
6:33
if they can get a result but I see West Ham at home to win 2-1 OK
6:38
I've got West Ham 1 Bournemouth 0 so the next game Aston Villa
6:44
against Nottingham Forest some great ties there's some really great games in the Premier League
6:49
your 7th Aston Villa against Nottingham Forest who are continuing it you know
6:54
we talk about Bournemouth maybe going off the boil, but Forrest haven't, have they
6:58
Every time you think, well, surely it's not going to continue. Let me ask you this
7:02
Is it to do with the fact that they don't have as much possession
7:06
That maybe they're getting more rest time during games? I mean, what do you make on this
7:12
No, the way they play suits the group of players that they've got
7:16
They're all honed into it. I think that they're devastating on the counter-attack
7:21
as we saw against Manchester United in the week. An unbelievable Langer goal it really was And that was from a United corner Absolutely amazing From picking the ball up just outside his penalty box he at the other end of the field within nine seconds and he finishes it brilliantly But that is Forrest And then when they need to defend they all defend They really resilient
7:46
So I think they've been the story of the season. I know Liverpool are going to end up running away with the Premier League
7:51
But Nuno and Notts Forrest, for me, have been the story of the season. Absolutely unbelievable
7:57
But I'm going to let you go first this time, Paul. Right, OK. So Aston Villa then, Rashford and Asensio
8:04
You know, they are the signings of the season, aren't they? If ever there's that great signing, I'm going to go
8:13
I'm just like swearing from one thing to the other. And I'm going to go for, I'm going 2-2, actually, Clive
8:20
I think this is going to be, I like what Villa are doing. And I'd love to see Forest
8:24
They're like my second team at the moment, Forest. So I'm going to go 2-2. What about yourself? Well, you're not copying me then, Paul
8:30
You've got 6-0 Forest. Yeah, no. I've got Aston Villa to win 1-0
8:36
because I think it's going to be tight. I think that Villa, again
8:40
Villa having a good season. Semi-finalists of the FA Cup. I think they've found form
8:47
Marcus Rashford has found form. There's a feel-good factor at Villa. I think there'll be a tough nut to crack
8:53
Nottingham Forest. There's no doubt about that. But I see Villa winning 1-0
8:58
Okay. Right, on to Sundays. We've got, well, a few derbies there
9:03
West London derby, Brentford versus Chelsea. Chelsea, after playing Spurs on Thursday
9:10
is Brentford away, 11th against 6th. Yeah, this is an interesting game
9:15
Brentford, I think, they've had some good run of form and then they've had a few disappointing results
9:21
So, I think Chelsea, again, going for this 4th place in the Premier League, an automatic Champions League
9:29
qualification. I know people say, well, it could go down to fifth or sixth place, depending on who
9:34
wins what. But to guarantee yourself a Champions League berth next season, I'm going to go, I think
9:41
it's going to be a really tight London derby, and I'm going to go Brentford 0, Chelsea 1
9:46
Right, I'm going 1-2. So I think Brentford will score, but I think Chelsea are going to get 2
9:50
Fulham against Liverpool. So Liverpool now are 13 points away from winning the title. That's at the
9:57
most. So that's the most they're going to need. And there's a possible 24 still to play for
10:02
They're never going to drop these points. It's just never going to happen. So it's just a matter
10:07
of when rather than if, in my opinion. So the whole thing could turn a full down. We'll see
10:13
But it's Fulham. They've won only one out of six at Craven Cottage. It's been a strange season
10:18
so we never know. But for me, I am going to go Liverpool 2-0 at Craven Cottage. What about you
10:24
clove yeah i'm gonna i'm gonna go along with you a liverpool win i think full of might score but i
10:29
just think that liverpool at the moment it's that steam train that's rolling along they're on their
10:34
way to the premier league title yeah so i'm gonna go full of one liverpool two right 14th against
10:41
10th oh sorry i'll do that again or 10 points right next one 14th against the bottom club
10:47
southampton now spurs fans i know will be thinking oh no i know what's going to happen here
10:54
Southampton just don't win and could be relegated. Oh, I have to cough again
11:02
Sorry, Clive. Sorry. Oh, dear. Right, let's go again. So Tottenham Hotspur against Southampton
11:15
Now, is it going to be Dr Tottenham will see you now or it's too late to save Southampton
11:20
There's no question about that, whatever they manage to do. But if Spurs beat Southampton and Wolves win it means that Southampton are relegated And that is the earliest that any club has been relegated in the calendar year They still a couple of points away you know to maybe beat Derby County
11:37
that awful run that they had in sort of the lowest points title, points total
11:42
But Southampton away, I mean, they did get a, they got, you know, they got a draw in the week
11:47
but surely not at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Clive, could it happen
11:51
No, I think the thing is they've really got nothing to play for
11:56
there's certainly no pressure because they're not going to survive. There's players who can play the game trying to impress
12:06
whoever's going to be in charge there next season, whether they go down with Juric into the Championship
12:12
So it's almost a no-lose game for Southampton. But for Spurs, I think it's vitally important they get a result
12:18
They get a good win for a really moral boosting of confidence
12:25
for that Europa League game coming on the Thursday. And I'm going to go Spurs to run out comfortable victors
12:31
I think they need to be up to speed. They need to be playing well
12:36
And I'm going to go Spurs 3-0. 3-0. I'll go 2-0. Manchester United against Manchester City also on Sunday
12:44
Erling Haaland is going to be out for seven weeks. It doesn't really affect anything, does it
12:48
I mean, the FA Cup, I guess. But really, they're talking about this World Club Championship
12:54
What are your feelings about that? I think it's crazy in respect of the players playing through the summer
13:02
They need a break. I know people say they're highly paid. They should be able to play two times a week
13:06
But you cannot play. I know myself, when you get that two or three-week break in the summer
13:12
it's so important. Not only physically, but mentally as well. Just to be able to switch off
13:16
the demands of this World Club Championship through the summer. Haaland might
13:23
well be back for that. I think that whether that's something he wants, whether it's something the
13:29
players want at the end of the season, remains to be seen. And I just
13:33
wonder what sort of quality event it will be. It's going to be quite fascinating that
13:39
But City's still got a lot to play for. You know, the FA Cup and qualifying
13:43
for the Champions League. That's true. It's a priority for them. Yeah, it's a priority for them
13:49
We really have to do it. Pep keeps saying that. I think he just keeps applying that pressure on his team
13:55
And what a game. Manchester United, dreadful, dreadful season for Manchester United
14:00
I think we all know that. Ameren still trying to find his feet
14:04
still trying to find the players to play the way that he wants
14:08
his Manchester United team to play. I'm going to sit on the fence on this
14:12
I'm going to go Manchester United 1, Man City 1. Wow. Okay
14:17
I'm going to go 2-0 Man City for that one. I do think they're going to turn over Manchester United
14:22
Finally, last one. And Monday's game, Leicester against Newcastle. Leicester, I think, are probably gone
14:28
Newcastle, of course, they're very high at the moment still. Oh, yes
14:33
Newcastle on the crystal wave. I think we all know they've won their first trophy for many, many years
14:40
I don't think there's a city in the country that has a better feel-good factor than Newcastle
14:47
And Leicester, this is a, you know, I think it's just a time now where Leicester
14:52
have to be focusing on what they're going to do in the Championship next season
14:57
So I'm going to go Leicester-0, Newcastle-2. I'm saying the same. Leicester-0, Newcastle-2
15:02
No question about it. Well, maybe a little bit, but that's our view. Clive, have a good weekend
15:08
Thanks as always. Great to see you. Thank you Paul
