The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hello, my name is Joel Knight and I'm a vicar in the Church of England
0:11
It's such a relief when people get it. When someone can say, I went through this too
0:19
I know exactly how you feel. When friends can offer the listening ear of someone who understands
0:26
The gentle advice of someone who's been there. But when it comes to God, it'd be easy to think he doesn't understand
0:34
God, if he exists, is withdrawn, far off, aloof, distant from the messiness of this world
0:42
Easy to expect Jesus to float through the world with a halo around his head
0:47
hovering over the messy, complex sadness of life in this veil of tears
0:52
But the Jesus of the Bible is so different. One time he encounters a man he can't hear and can't speak
1:00
He draws near to human pain by reaching out toward it. In gentle compassion, Jesus places his own fingers into ears that cannot hear the laugh of a baby
1:11
or the rustle of leaves, or the gentle lapping tied onto the rocky beach
1:16
In tender care, Jesus places his own fingers onto a tongue that can't form the words
1:21
I love you to one's nearest and dearest. He literally reaches toward human pain
1:30
He knows. I wonder what it would be like to know his tender care
